Not really sure which Impa design is the best to use so I'll ignore that for now. I like the idea of her being slightly slower but more powerful version of Sheik personally for her play style

Alright, based on what users have stated as well as where the Leadership Team is leaning, we will be going with Impa's Skyward Sword design as they largely lines up with her appearance with Sheik and Skyward Sword's more recent port. That being said, there is also a desire to keep Impa not solely confined to the Skyward Sword motif but transcends that by incorporating content from other iterations.

Based on what I have seen, it seems like Impa would benefit most with a combination between Dark Samus and Lucina, a character whose attacks are the same as Sheik's but has different appearance properties while also having different attributes.

With that in mind, we will be conducting a new job pertaining to identifying what these special visuals would be which would accompany particualr moves. How can we spice of Sheik's moves to feel more like Impa but still retain their original intention?

Impa Moveset Submission: Adapt Sheik's Moves to Fit More with Impa
These moves can be normal or specials. We aren't asking for entirely new moves; just to reimagine her attacks to fit more with Impa's design philosophy. This can include content not only from Skyward Sword but also from other games such as Hyrule Warriors series and Ocarina of Time.

When submitting aesthetic/property changes to attacks, please properly identify which attack will be adjusted.

When submitting character attributes changes contrary to Shiek, please explain what would be different and any logical reasoning to incorporate this change (i.e. make Impa has less traction due to her lithe and lighter frame, give her better dodges).

Finally, Impa will be keeping the Final Smash, Shiekah Dance.

Impa Side Special:

Flashbang:
This is a slower version of the Burst Grenade that Impa uses to her advantage. The difference in effect is also apparent, as she deals 9.5% damage as opposed to Sheik's 14.6%, but in turn, anyone facing the explosive will be immediately stunned, as though they were hit with Mewtwo's Disable. Being directly in the blast radius, meanwhile, will stun regardless of orientation. However, the stun doesn't affect airborne opponents, and being inside the blast will simply launch them. You would think she was using a Deku Nut on a trigger with this, and she just might be.

Impa Down Special:

Swooping Falcon:
Impa's own leaping kick functions the same as Sheik's Bouncing Fish, but as the name implies, there's a different thing going for her. At the apex of the move's jump arc, Impa gains a wicked burst of speed that can catch opponents off guard. This does, however, sacrifice Sheik's ability to trigger early, so Swooping Falcon is a committal special.

These two Specials would give her a uniqueness from Sheik that gives Impa a playstyle that requires tighter timing but yields a satisfying payoff. Although there is no rule that says an imitation cannot defeat the original, it could be argued that Impa is much more skilled than Sheik at Sheikah arts. I believe these two to play into that philosophy splendidly.

  • Conditions: Defeat the Main Fighter to win
Reasonings:
Mega Mushroom: Prominent Mario power-up that lends itself to a easy spirit effect
Tiny Kong: This design was used in Smash 4 for her trophy, and makes an easy evolvable spirit
Super Team: Mario Chargers has spirits of Petey and Waluigi for some reason, but is strangely missing the original character with art from the game
Hawlucha: Pretty Iconic pokemon, with even Ash having one
Golfer & Mandrill and Cheer Readers: Most Rhythm Heaven mini games make for fun spirit battles, and its sports related. Only didn't submit them with Barista due to time
Wario & Waluigi (Super Rush): Mario and Luigi have Tennis Aces spirits, and with Wario and Waluigi being marketed heavily for Super Rush it makes sense for these two to get the spirits this time
Punch-Out Spirits: Added the remaining characters with art from the wii installment, as well as two title defense versions of prominent characters.
Oceana Louvier: Endless Ocean is a nintendo IP which has zero representation in smash so shes here to fix that. Scuba can be considered a sport by some

Some other series which sports spirits can be pulled from are Wave Race and 1080 snowboarding which I'll probably do some if noone else does.

Reasons:
for Mark Evans Inazuma Eleven started out on the DS and other than Prof Layton and Yokai Watch it is the company's other big series.
Mike Haggar is basically FF representation when it comes to crossover appearance like Morrigan and is very popular even going as far as being the only FF main character that doesn't have a playable appearance in the SF game.

Up Special: Vanish
This would be very similar in function to Sheik’s but, instead of simply producing a cloud of smoke, it produces paper talismans that swirl about upon vanishing and reappearing.

Attribute Changes
Impa has a slightly leaser falling speed which makes her more floaty than Shiek. Sheik is one of the lore faster fallers at 1.75 while Impa would be tied with Palutena and Zard at 1.4.

I'll submit the Knife Storm idea I had which is directly based off of one Sheik's custom moves from Smash 4 while using knives instead as flavour to fit more with her character.

Here's some move ideas I had for Impa that I wanted to share doing what I could without pushing too far past the echo label.

Neutral Special (Knife Storm): Impa accumulates up to three knives and throws them forth at light speed similarly to Sheik's Needle Storm but half the projectiles. This variation uses knives instead of needles which is more in line with what Impa uses in her playable appearances. Knife Storm will also go through players and does more damage to shields taking inspiration from Sheik's second custom move for her neutral special, Penetrating Needles.

I'd like to add on to this if you don't mind. Impa's Vanish acts like Zelda's up special, where it does some decent knockback and damage when she re appears. The first hit still doesn't do much however

Vote For Impa Echo Move Changes Here
(Hopefully this is the right from this time, if its not ping us and we will fix it)

We Will be going with her Skyward Sword design, so take that into account when deciding which changes to vote for. Sorry for the lack of fancy linked submissions with a table but Im dead tired.

Impa Misc Content
Please Only submit one or two items of misc content so others have a chance to submit content. This may be a good chance to represent her abilities which an Echo of Sheik can't portray such as cloning.
  • Taunts (4)
  • Victory Animation (3)
  • Idle Poses (2)
  • On-Screen Appearance (1)
  • Boxoing Ring Title (1)
  • Palutena's Guidance (1)
  • Snake Codec (1)

Also some updates, Marin's moveset is being meshed together and worked out, and all the open spirit submissions, Zelda, Touhou, and Sports will close next Monday.

We will continue to allow Impa additional content submissions throughout the night and into tomorrow.
That being said, I am here to announce our results of the Impa moveset submission. We will be going with the top three submissions.

Forms response chart. Question title: Please vote for a Move Change. Voting for a character in the 2 column will grant it 2 points, 1 1 point, and so on. You may vote for your own submission. Please make a selection in both columns.. Number of responses: .

Name2 points1 PointTotal
Up Special (Vanish)3 (6)3 (3)9
Neutral Special (Knife Storm)4 (8)2 (2)10
Side Special (Flashbang)2 (4)3 (3)7
Down Special Swooping Falcon0 (0)1 (1)1

With that being said, Impa will have the following attacks:

Up Special: Vanish (instead of smoke, it produces an explosive effect and creates talisman that flutters about)
Neutral Special: Knife Storm (a barrage of knives that has decreased distance but passes through opponents and shields)
Side Special: Flashbang (Deals less damage than Shiek's but also can stun opponents facing the attack).

We will continue Impa content submissions until around the afternoon tomorrow.

On-Screen Appearance - a Deku Nut drops down from the sky and as it explode on the ground it reveals Impa in which she immediately throw her black cloak away and gets on a fighting pose.

Discussion: How should we do DLC?
Smash Infinite will obviously has DLC and we intend to not only include a fighter but also a relevant stage if it requires one. We also plan to, for now, have Mii Fighter packs as well as Spirit Events.

  • What kind of other DLC do you want us to include?
  • How should be our prices?
  • Should we include the Ultimate-style Challenger Packs, a DLC format more like Smash 4, or something entirely new?
  • If the later, what could this DLC format look like?
  • Should we do a pass where you can get all the content like in Ultimate?
  • While I don’t think we will go this way, is there any merit in revealing all the dlc characters per season rather than “gradually releasing them”.
  • How many seasons should we have?

Please note we are not talking about which characters can be DLC. This discussion is for our DLc format and gameplan.

I think that the Ultimate style Fighters Pass works best for characters, but I would like more side content than just Miis. A bonus stage or two would be nice, I've been doing a series of what ifs for bonus stages in Ultimate's DLC and would be willing to do mockips for this. Another echo every now and then wouldn't be half bad either. Maybe put some of this content halfway between character releases to help reduce drought?

Maybe it's not right to bring real world corporate ethics into his hypothetical thread where we barely if ever discuss fan reactions, but I'm opposed to a Fighters' Pass system as season passes are inherently predatory, especially for a game featuring characters from 30+ different franchises that share basically no overarching fandom overlap - I don't really feel comfortable pushing that stuff even in an imaginary world.

Yeah but when we're role-playing Nintendo executives, we have to reject our humanity. Embrace corporate ooooo oooooooo.

Could you please expand on how the fighter pass system is predatory? I’m not sure I see how the current DLC system for ultimate is predatory.

Season passes are predatory on virtue of using mystery and FOMO to make people pay for content they may not want - now put that in a game with over 30 different existing IPs represented with wildly different tones to the point it'd be nigh-impossible for one single person to be a fan of all of them - and then use that as a way to shill for your recent releases. Not pleasant, innit? Much worse than any MTX could ever be if you ask me.

Not pleasant, innit? Much worse than any MTX could ever be if you ask me.
I mean, if you're not willing to take the risk you can just go with the solo packs. Pretty sure that's why they're there.

Preventing disappointment in products people have already paid for is 100% Nintendo's responsiblity - not ours. If there even is such a thing as a risk in purchasing your product, it should not be a product. End of.

People are gonna be drawn in by different things and have different tastes, not everyone's gonna agree with the movesets, so on and so forth, especially given how big Smash's scope has gotten. If we don't want any risks at all we might as well just can the entire project.

Passes are typically for the diehard fans who know they're gonna get everything regardless.

You still have the option to buy stuff seperately if you prefer that.

The pass formula also gives us a set end date and the amount of content people should expect, which is really good to have. Otherwise our fans would be in the dark. That was one of my main issues with 4's DLC strategy
