Yea. I'm hoping for a galaxy like shading for characters or respective shading for their respective game I feel cartoonish will be ridiculed by the influx of so called"hardcore gamers" that the wiiu will be bringing in

:phone:
I already think smash does things more realistic than they need to be. Showing the individual cloth on mario's clothing and scales on Bowser.

A galaxy like thing for smash would look good

Do we really need to care about such labels?

They don't even have a distinct definition of what they mean anyway.

Some fighting game players consider ALL smash players to be casual, for example

I dunno. I really liked how they weakened the overpowered shields from melee. And if they were to introduce those pressure sensitive shields again they'd have to redesign the triggers to be...well yaknow....pressure sensitive.
ALL HAIL GAMECUBE CONTROLLER TRIGGERS!
Brawl's shield is overall better than melee's, but this is probably due to the lack of shieldstun in the former.

You're right about the pressure sensitivity thing, so let me amend my thought. I just want more shield stun so sitting in shield isn't so ridiculously safe.

In many other fighting games all the stages are exactly the same just with different backgrounds and music which don't affect the battle at all. That's where smash bros. shines in its wide variety of stages.
However i wouldn't mind a stage for fighting on stamina mode. Ya know with unbreakable sides or sides that go infinitely in either direction.

I'm starting to wonder if people even know the definition of hardcore.
For anyone wondering what the definition is, it's obviously this:

It seems like Sakurai always says that he wants the game to be able to be picked up and played by anyone. I honestly don't think we need to worry about it being competitive though, that just happens, right?

Also at least for the 3DS version I think looking at Kid Icarus is a good start as to what kind of things Sakurai might do, as he's stated that Sora used that game as "practice" for this upcoming Smash.

So better online capability and the ability to fly for a short span of time.

Should we be making individual character threads and all that jazz to discuss individual issues? Or keep all issues locked to the general discussions in each category?

I noticed someone posted the first new thread in this forum.

That sounds cool but I'd like for online tourneys to have monthly 32 player tournaments where they offer prizes such in the form of wii points that would pretty awesome.

I've been saying the same thing! Smash bros needs standard online community stuff like this!
Dont forget a lobby for accessing the top custom stages and downloading others!

Balance wise, this game should be the best balanced game hands down. Sakurai admitted that he realized brawls balance wasn't up to snuff for competitive players, and look what he did? Boom.

I actually would like Smash 4 to make use of the 3DS Play Coins. Maybe we can use Play Coins to buy trophies, stickers, etc. just like what we do in Kid Icarus: Uprising with the trophies Idols.

If the 3DS version nails it with the hardware's features I'm expecting a decent amount of replay value.

Yeah, I just don't want any hard-to-obtain collectibles (Diskun in Melee, gotta-catch-em trophies with the Trophy Stand). Smash 64 remains the only Smash game I 100%'d. :(

You'll probably be able to obtain trophies through streetpass for the 3ds and be able to trade them with others so it probably wont be too hard

I like the idea of Namco assisting in the production. It'll give it an awesome feel for the game imo. Namco is amazing with Graphic production (Soul Calibur 5, anyone?) and so I'm super excited about that.

Aaaugh the old thread is locked and I just realized it.

I guess the crowd from there is slowly gathering here. Wheeeeeeeee.

Also, Namco-Bandai working on Smash Bros. makes my brain explode. I wonder what process surrounded that decision. I'm purty dang excited.

Whoa, dude, I'd get an active lifestyle and go running/walking if that was true! Hahah.

Also, if Masahiro Sakurai liked the new Spiderman movie, I best go see it when we Americans can.

The way Sakurai phrased his statement on Nintendo Direct makes me pretty excited. Sounds like he wants to show us Namco-Bandai's prototype as soon as it's ready, which makes me even more excited than the initial announcement did.

Also, am I the only one who thought of Smash Bros as a 3D fighter when I saw the news? I mean, it's highly unlikely that they would do something that drastically different, but what would everyone think if they did that?

I would be fine with it if it was Power Stone-like

Aw lawdy, 6 years later and here we are again.
May as well enjoy any hope of this game being perfectly balanced towards competitive play, having a satisfactory roster, and generally being good while it lasts.:yeahboi:

Also, Bamco being involved is probably the best thing that can happen, even if it means we'll have to pay $10 each for slightly different costumes. I at least trust the Gundam vs guys to know what the hell they're doing.

Pffft. They don't have the sense to put Sandrock in any of their Gundam games. Can't be THAT on the ball!

Let's not neglect that this time around, Nintendo is actually able to patch their games.

That improves the chances of balance patches if the 1.00 version of the game turns out to be Metaknight top tier style.
But remember that Mario Kart 7's patch only affects Online Multiplayer. If Smash 4 utilizes patches too, they'll most likely only work while you're online.

Interesting that Sm4sh will be the first Smash to have patches available. So if a cool glitch appears in the games, chances are it could be removed. :(

And since Nintendo is using Nintendo network updates may come as fast as possible depending on how good the online is. (After all it is Nintendo first time)

But yea it's nice to have a subforum, even if it's sad to see that 7000+ page topic discontinue, it did it for the greater good. :)

Tbh if I were developing, i'd probably:

Fix major chain grabs (grim mentioned this before), remove tripping (another one grim mentioned), give ganon that sword, give Lucas more range on the attacks that he needs it on, take away some of the horrible lag affecting some low tier chars, take away some of the ridiculous hurt boxes of the higher tiers (MK, i'm looking at you!), etc etc (rambles on)

I dunno, i'd try to find some way to make it a bit more balanced. Does that stuff seem like it would balance it out a little bit? Or have I gone too far?

Sakurai can either save the series or forever put it to rest with this smash, competitively of course.

But man... I'm getting too old for this :\

You're only too old if you want to be. :)

And I know what you mean. It's tenuous enough now that he has to make a good impression here or there'll likely be trouble for the series as being respectable and well-received/liked.

That'd still put him in a bad position tier-list wise. It'd also probably make him an Ike clone with falcon's specials. Or maybe something weirder... >.>
