I don't know how I feel about Namco/Bandai being involved. On one hand you have the opportunity to include some cool Namco/Bandai characters. On the other, they might include some that just don't mesh well with the series.

Despite all the whining that people did about Sonic and Snake being in Brawl, they did mesh pretty well with the roster. I'm not trying to see Devil Jin vs King Dedede is all I'm trying to say.
You know their characters is not the reason they are involved in the project right?

I'm going to stick with the Wii U Pro controller, it looks a lot sexier. Besides, Brawl taught me that you can get used to any controller and play well. (I never really mastered the Wii mote on there, but I haven't especially tried, but I know it is very possible, and a friend of mine will ONLY play with that. )

That would probably be the best for everyone's collective sanity.

I don't know how much longer I can stand to watch somebody with a Ghirahim avatar who talks exclusively in purple text argue against a guy with a Groose avatar who thinks Groose's Theme passes as a "defensive buff" arguing for their respective characters.
Hahah yeah sorry about that. I have purple text to match when I have a Ghirahim avatar or a Hades avatar (I also had a Purple Reggie Pikmin avatar before this which matched).

And YOU were the one who trampled on the SSB4 community here! T_T Our pride..

This is pretty damn good. But still, the buttons on the right needs to be the same as the GameCube. And since that's a controller specified for fps games, the R and L buttons probably has the shape of a trigger?

I'll look more onto this controller.
I suppose nothing can beat the amazing feel of the triggers on the gamecube controller but that was pretty much the only thing the gamecube controller had going for it. I mean it had that wierd second smaller joytick, only 1 z button, and they got rid of 4 c buttons from the n64 controller.

Tekken characters would be odd to see, especially considering they're more "human" than say a Captain Falcon or something along those lines.

However, I think seeing Kuma, Gon, or Mokujin from Tekken could be cool and they would fit the atmosphere of a Smash game better.
Gon would be annoying as hell to fight lol

Someone mentioned the Madcatz version of the WiiU Pro Controller

So problem solved.
Well, I guess the problem would be solved. I'd say they need to work on the actual design more, not in button layouts, but in the way it looks.

What does that make Snake? :snake:

Aren't MadCatz controllers sub-par quality?

I know that's true for GC, haven't seen or played with one in like 8 years though.

I believe so, which is why I never use MadCatz products. Though to be fair, that Wii U Pro Controller does look like it will let people play Smash 4 more comfortably (assuming it's gameplay remains for the most part unchanged) than the standard Pro Controller... though, I imagine the MadCatz controller lasting only a couple of months or so before the joysticks start to drift, not cooperate, etc..

Good point. I cant be fooled by How well made it looks. Madcatz is still Madcatz.
Nintendo will probably redesign the pro controller anyway

Yaknow what I like?
Those finger grips on the Gamecube Analog stick. That spiraling shape just feels so right.

Not their Tournament Edition arcade sticks which are made with excellent Sanwa parts.

I'm obviously very late but I am glad to see Smash 4 finally get its own area of smashboards.

Yeah, Madcatz controllers are generally not as good as original brand, which is especially true for the GC.

I won't lie though, my Madcatz PS2 controller certainly has lasted longer than my other Sony controllers.

In my experience Madcatz was booty for the GCC but still is working (over 8 years) for my PS2, and I ***** it all the time with playing Budokai 3.

I hope it has the PS2 quality for the Wii U Pro.

I was just thinking of something...

If Namco-Bandai is (co?)working on this game now... isn't there a bigger chance of getting Alternate COSTUMES this time around? Seeing as Soul Calibur and Tekken both have them?

And this time we could make our own alternate colors as well?.

Customizing character palletes in Smash is a bad idea imo because you need the original color, a red, blue and green swap for doubles. Plus not every character will have as many skins as others leaving some characters with less customization options.

It's all up to Sakurai in the end.

Honestly, I think custom colors would be great for Smash 4, if executed correctly. It will give us a more personalized character, and try to differentiate our mains with the mains of others. Plus, how often have people fought over which character color they want to go with in a Smash Bros. game? I'm sure the arguments over color choices weren't anything major, but a character's color scheme that fits the liking of the user can be quite significant, even in the way the player performs in the more extreme cases.

Also, Sakurai did mention wanting the 3DS to be more personalized and also threw in the word "customization" as the main point of it, so it can stand to reason that colors could very well be something that can be customized in Smash 4.

Chances of the "customization" being something like the weapons in Uprising?

If so, I hope to Sakurai-sama that he does not make anything like the fusion page.

But I'm all for the customization, that sounds like hours and hours of fun and possibilities.

I sorta wonder would it work like this. /the customization/

One thing I've wondered: how much this customization theme will affect the crossover theme of Smash Bros? I'm sorta afraid that this might even turn into a make-your-own-character-kind of fighting game spinoff for Smash-series and Nintendo-theme is just nice coated fanservice like NintendoLand did it.

Everyone should have at least "6" palette swaps. And for those who have alternate outfits, such as Wario, have "6" palette swaps for the second outfit too.

The problem I see with move customizing is that this tosses out balance out of the window. I'd rather something like a groove system that does a universal tweak to the character.

Yeah the custom character option sounds like it would be heavily overpowered if it's implemented, unless there are restrictions.

Well, Kid Icarus Uprising probably isn't the best example, but there was a lot of customization, and there was decent balance online despite that.

Not to say customization on SSB4 would be the same thing, of course.

Except in Free for All, there it's pretty much grab a 300 level weapon and go to town.

Probably the first one to say this so far but, customization should be a separate mode, so we get a regular Smash mode and a Custom Smash mode.

I thought we already had customizable modes like stamina mode, slow brawl ,etc. So custom mode would be easier to implement without any hassle.

True, in FFA it was try to be as broken as possible, but it never really was "unbalanced" in the sense that there were some things you can do that will just make you win. FFA, to me, seems to be all about just trying to get your kills as high as possible, so I kind of approve of that insanity. That's really the appeal it has over LvD. If it wasn't for that, FvD would probably be in all ways just a better thing to play, you know what I mean?

No I get it. It's unbalanced, but not in a way that makes the game broken. I've gotten first place in that mode several times using an under 250 weapon. LvD is still my game mode of choice though.

I think the extent of customization will determine of it needs a seperate mode. For example if kuma's attribute booster idea is adopted I feel that'd be balanced enough/ calm enough to change up the game but not enough to break it for people who don't customize a.k.a losers like iblis and tri =P.

Customizing character palletes in Smash is a bad idea imo because you need the original color, a red, blue and green swap for doubles.
Not necessarily, in the original ssb some characters didn't have those 3 colors (like DK) but had a special custom just for team mode.

Cause that stick is probably for shooters so that they wouldn't have to adapt after all it does look like an Xbox controller

It just doesn't make sense to me to put the sticks at an offset from each other. Especially when the control stick being so close to the outside edge of the controller makes for very uncomfortable thumb angles.
