I never really liked ZSS that much anyway. However, I would still be disappointed with the cut of an original character.

Hopefully if ZSS was cut, Sakurai replaces her with Ridley as Metroid's second playable character (though we will probably get that ugly Other M version considering that Samus is in her Other M form as well).

I still think Sakurai made a big mistake with the newcomer selection he did (especially if Little Mac, Mii, and Pac-Man are true too).
I think the Wii Fit Trainer is a good enough replacement for Zamus. And if Ridley also appears, the better. Zamus was an original character, but she did have alot of whip attacks and a bizarre special jump that didn't really make sense.

I think the newcomer selection is great so far, except if Little Mac and Mii show up. Mii seems too much like Villager in terms of design and random moveset. Little Mac is just too boring for me.

Pacman I would love, but I understand people not wanting a giant smiley face in the game.

Do you think they want different characters in each game to bring people back to past games. Like how some people play Melee or buy old copies to play as Roy, Mewtwo, etc.?

I guess the whole DLC-deal is now for cut characters of this game? I think so.
I think that is what will happen if DLC does happen. Really Sakurai will try to get as many newcomers as he can, and keep in all the series mainstays. Characters like the two guests, Ike, Lucario, PT, Toon Link, and Lucas, to name a few may be axed.

In such a situation, I would not mind clones beefing up the roster (as long as they are good choices). However, due to the Western fanbase pissing their pants during the past two games over clones, I doubt they are going to happen again outside of DLC.

Alright. The 3DS limiting the Wii U version is downright stupid.

Couple things though.

"The reality of the situation unfortunately is that there are certain limitations on the 3DS," Sakurai said. The 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will have the same library of characters.
"So we're forced into the situation where we may need to reduce some characters to a certain degree. but we're really working hard in order to include as many characters as possible."

So... We have the same characters on both versions but where does it explicitly say cuts? The wording is so weird, it makes no sense. It sounds like Sakurai means he's going to reduce the complexity of certain characters. Perhaps Zelda and Sheik will be separated to prevent complicated loading or something like that. Regardless, Sakurai said that he was trying to include as many characters as possible. I think he's going to try his hardest to prevent cuts. But...Just to be safe, how reliable is Kotaku?

Really, I am not going to treat Smash 4 as a proper successor to Brawl, and instead as a handheld installment, with the Wii U version being a HD version of the handheld installment. Just hope Ridley gets in, and that we get as many of Brawl's veterans back as possible.

Also, crossing my fingers for DLC in the case of Brawl veterans that do get cut.

The wording is kind of odd... This whole deal of having interviews via translator may distort what Sakurai might be really saying.

I still think some people are overreacting and looking deeper than what actually exists on this news. I'm just gonna give it some time before I fully complain.

I feel we are taking what Sakurai is saying to heart, and we shouldn't.

Last year Sakurai said not to expect so many characters and that he is focusing on balance, now these translation (because these things aren't always one to one Smash4 screenshots anyone?) are saying " he was trying to include as many characters as possible."

pre-Brawl Sakurai ruled out Villager and now we have him for SSB4

We should wait until we have these interviews in context.

I really don't see the problem in making the handheld version a watered down version of the real thing, but okay Nintendo. Not like that hasn't been happening for years already.

Don't go on a no cuts campaign, because then how are we going to get rid of Toon Link? :awesome:

Then there's the whole futility of it.

Anyway, think you guys are worrying too much. But maybe I'm still just too excited over everything in general, as well as my incapability to feel down due to New Leaf. Life is wonderful.

I am going to rage again if Roy (and many other veterans I liked) got bumped out again due to time constraints, though I suppose Sakurai potentially has the option for DLC to complete his intended characters.

That is it, if they start cutting characters, I will not just not buy the game but Wii U. I have the Wii and a PC, don't need it. I can play Smash Crusade.

I really wish the 3DS version never existed... All of this time wasted trying to "balance" the two versions could have went into programming a superior online mode or adding/balancing more characters.

I could use some supports because the replies are a bunch of losers that actually want cuts.
I am one of those losers. The practical reality of cuts is that there is a limited amount of time. I rather Sakurai use that time to make flavorful, interesting characters and revamp characters like Ganondorf (seems like Sakurai already made significant changes to Bowser). I do not think that axing potential newcomers for keeping characters like Toon Link is necessary.

I see no need to buy the Wii U version if both games have the same roster, and a gimped roster at that. Like I said, I am not going to be disappointed if I treat this like a handheld installment overall.

If amateurs can make Smash Crusade and have a ton of characters, I am sure the pros can fit back the Brawl roster. Most of the Brawl roster is far better than any potential newcomer anyways.

How reliable are they?

Its like you lot are coming to the realization that cuts will happen even though we have been talking about this for how many months? lol

Not really because I am getting married soon and could spend my money elsewhere. I told people I may not even get the next Smash because I am getting too old unless it really sells itself to me.

This bit of news makes me think that if they do continue to have problems with multiple fighter characters, Pokemon Trainer is almost certainly going to be axed. Three characters in one that are difficult to program would simply be killing three birds with one stone. I suppose they could just split them into separate characters though. I will admit that I will be genuinely heart broken if the Ice Climbers are gone though.

So here's some food for thought:

We know that both versions of Smash 4 will have the same characters now. However, both versions will have different stages. So that makes me wonder: what about cross-play between to two? I mean, I don't think cross-play would be much fun if you were only limited to the 2 or 3 stages that are common between the two. This tells me that either:
a) There will be no cross-play, and the connectivity between the two will be much more limited

or

b) There will be cross-play, and connecting the two versions will unlock the stages from one for use in the other in some form.

Edit: also, I think I figured this stage out. It looks to me like it's either an SSE stage, or a Smash 4 versio n of the "scrolling stage" that we've had since Melee(i.e. Jungle Climber, Icicle Mountain, Mushroomy Kingdom).
