Last weekend, I attended Pound V and had an awesome time. However, I encountered a huge problem during my return trip...

Let me give a little background. Whenever I travel, I always take my backpack and my DS bag (which is actually a GBA bag, but I'm too attached to it to change it). The backpack is my carry-on and the DS bag is my personal item for flights. Anyways, I went to Pound V, had a blast, then came back.

I managed to barely get on the last bus that returned to campus Monday night, but when I got off at my stop I noticed a few minutes later that I was missing something: my DS bag. I left it on the bus! In a frenzy, I raced down to the last stop of the bus (it was the very last bus that night, so I thought I'd make it in time, and it was just five blocks away). However, I couldn't make it in time. The bus was gone, along with my DS bag. I was practically having a nervous breakdown there, and the only thing that kept me calm was the sound of my parents' voices, who I called to help me with the situation. After a little while, I returned to my dorm, completely depressed.

I called the bus office at 7:30 AM the next day, which is the earliest time that one could call them and file a lost & found report. Around 2:15 PM later that day, I was told that they found my bag and said that I could come pick it up around 3:30 PM. After my class ended, I immediately headed out to the bus office, and found my DS bag! I was completely overjoyed to see it again.

...Until I actually held it. For some reason, the bag seemed much lighter than what I remembered it to be, so I opened it up... and found it almost completely empty. Basically, almost my entire collection of DS games (along with a few GBA games) and my iPhone charger + adapter were gone. All that was left was my receipt for the hotel (which helped a lot in identifying that it was my bag), my nametag from Pound V, FFIII DS (the only DS game that was left in the bag), one GBA game, and my GBC games. That's it. I had over 3 dozen DS games in my bag, and now they are gone. I asked if the bag arrived like that, and the teller said that nothing was taken out of the bag. That leaves only one conclusion: my DS games were stolen from the bag.

I felt that the world was crumbling around me right there. Sure, a couple of things have been stolen from me before: a pencil here, one or two games there... but I've never been robbed of in this scale. Not only did I lose a collection that was basically worth $1600, but I lost all the time I spent on the games, too. My perfect file with Mario Kart DS (with 3-star rank, all staff ghosts beaten, all missions mastered, and massive W:L ratio online), my perfect town in Animal Crossing: Wild World (house fully paid off, although I haven't played it in a while so it's probably full of weeds), my imports (Jump Ultimate Stars, which I got as a present when I went to Japan in 2009, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, etc.), all my RPGs and story-based games (Ace Attorney, Chrono Trigger, Professor Layton, Touch Detective, Mario & Luigi, Ghost Trick, etc.), and other games... all gone.

I filed a stolen item report to the police via phone after I got over myself. I was given a case number and fax number (although I lost the fax number somehow), and I'm about to fax this document to the police to help them know exactly what was taken from me:

Name: Richard Lage
Phone Number: (305) 283-5675
Case Number: <possibly classified, so I'm leaving it blank>

Hello, my name is Richard Lage and I filed a lost item report at around 4:45 PM on February 22, 2011. I hope that this was faxed to the correct place; I wrote down the number that the officer on the phone gave me, but I lost it somehow. So, I used the fax number given to me on the website: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/311/index.cfm?wpage=Contact Us

Below is a list of all the stolen items and their approximated prices without sales tax (they may be off by about $10, give or take). Note: everything under the first item is a Nintendo DS game.

1. Apple iPhone 3G Charger Cable + Adapter ($35)
2. 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors ($35)

37. Touch Detective 2 1/2 ($40)
TOTAL: $1600

As one could see, this is not a negligible amount of money. I trust that you will be able to recover what was stolen from me. Thank you for your hard work.
I know, I'm probably wasting my time with this, but I just can't sit around doing nothing while some thief has made off with my DS games. If there is even a slimmer of hope of recovering them I'll take it.

Thanks for reading this if you read it all the way through. I needed to just say what happened so that I can cope with it.

Just another day.
Very unfortunate. The only thing I can say is that at least you didn't have stuff that would have made a bigger problem than this. Hope you get your stuff back.

I think it's possible that they can find it, actually. I was on the last bus out from the airport, and I got off the second-to-last or third-to-last stop. So, the person who stole the games is very likely to be the only other passenger on the bus when I got off or the bus driver. You also need a get a card scanned to enter the bus, so there may be a record for the other passenger or something (unless he simply put in change, but I think he used a card).

Of course, there problem is if the police are going to put any effort into investigating this. =/

Yep. I even switched my Chrono Trigger game for Trauma Center mid-flight (the only other game I managed to save since it was in my DS, which I always keep in my pocket), and didn't open it again until I reclaimed it at the bus office.

Read it again, Suspect. I reclaimed my bag but it was missing almost all of its contents. I asked if it arrived like that and was told that it did. Therefore, the only possibility left is robbery. Someone found the bag and took out the games, then left the bag on the bus. Later, another person saw the bag and turned it into the lost & found. It's too bad that the 2nd person didn't come earlier. :(

I faxed the document a few minutes ago, by the way. That's all I can do for now, really...

I know read that. So im going to assume that when you left it on the bus...someone found it and ravaged through it. Which to me is wrong...but not punishable. Its like finding a wallet and taking some money out and putting the wallet back where you found it. That's just my opinion tho...

Knowing the police, they could very well say "Yea that sucks but you should of been more careful and kept an eye on your stuff not leaving it on the bus"

What happened with Lain, now that was robbery. What happen with you was a series of unfortunate events.

Really unfortunate, but like you said, it'd be easy to track down the people who might've taken it since you were second to last.

Also SuS, he got it back with stuff missing, so regardless of the mishap and the time elapsed, most of the stuff was gone, i.e. STOLEN.

Suspect has a point. Police can't simply note every person who has a "X" colored DS with "X" list of games. On top of that, they need reasonable doubt to inspect a person's belongings. For all we know, they might be eventually sold, which in turn means also scattered among the masses. I hate to say this, but the chances of you getting your stuff back is very slim.

I know it's hard to be positive about this, but at least look on the bright side. What was stolen were only VIDEO GAMES among some other minor things. Video games are easily replaceable, and even though you might have to work hard for those "perfect" files again, least you have it in memory and that's all that matters. It's cheesy, but I emphasize that what you lost can easily be replaced physically. Just be grateful nothing bad happened to you like what happened to Lain.

With that being said, 1600 dollars of value is a lot, but with time, wounds heal.

If u really wanna find ur stuff ur gonna hafta bust ur *** off 4 it..

1 u gotta check every pawn shop and gamestop(or general videogame store) within a good radius of where the bus stop was.
2 isnt there like a code or sumthin that certain ds games might have on em so nintendo can track things?
3 u didnt loose $1600 dollars worth of stuff. Those were the prices of when you bought those items new or if u were 2 buy them NEW now. Once u buy something(Except land and gold and ish like that) it looses its value 2 others. But I understand that 2 U its probably worth waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than $1600 due to its sentimental value. I'm sorry 2 read this bro but the best thing I can tell u is 2 b careful in the future. If I had a time machine I'd go back and help but... :urg:

As people said, the bright side is nothing that was EXTREMELY important(I.E credit cards, personal info that could lead to ID theft, etc.) were stolen. That being said, this still sucks super hard. Wish you luck in getting stuff back man :(

I'm sorry your stuff were stolen! The same thing happened to me last Pound.

The best thing you can do is hope for the report to do something. But to be honest, chances of that happening are low. I hope I'm not seeming like a downer, but from experienced (I had tons and I mean tons of things stolen) nothing came back.
We all make mistakes, and the best thing you can do now is to try to take extra care of your things next time you're out of time. Always double check. Make sure you have your items where you can see them. Honestly, I wish people didn't steal because it really hurts the person that's being stole from. I'm sure the games were very important to you, but like someone posted above say it could be worse.

Many times people lose credit cards, cars, valued home items, and a lot of money to the point where they can't feed themselves or their children. So don't let this put you down so much!
Worst comes you can also always purchase your games again online. There are people that sell used games for cheap. I know it may not have your saved file, but at least you have your video games! Good luck and take care!

Yeah, I'm glad that they didn't take my hotel receipt. That had some personal information on it.

I know that my chances are extremely low, but one could always hope, you know? I think I'm better off making an effort in trying to get them back than to not do anything.

Can someone fill me in on what happened to Lain, though?

1. If all the games were sold at once, then it would be very easy for the police themselves to track it (if they attempt to, at least). If the games were sold individually, then it'd practically be impossible.

2. No, there may be like a serial number or something, but I never wrote anything down on the cart. However, certain games like would be easy to identify through the games themselves since there is cartridge-specific information in them (my name and town in Animal Crossing, my name in Mario Kart DS, the save files in Chrono Trigger, etc.). To be honest, I don't think the person who took my games is smart enough to go through and clean out each individual one.

3. Some of them may be worth less now, but that doesn't get rid of the fact that that is how much they cost initially. I (or my parents) paid a certain amount of money for them, and if I somehow find the person who did this I would like every single dollar back.

that sucks bro but I'm a bit confused why you brought so many games just for one plane trip to pound5.

Regardless, I have no idea whether your stuff will be found or not. In worst case scenario, since they were all just video games, you could just buy one of those ds mod chips and dl the iso's for all those games and then load em onto the chip. You payed for em previously so it wouldn't be like you were stealing the games, just getting them all back for a fraction of the original pirce. Atleast that's what I'd do if my ds games weres stolen.

How unfortunate. Hopefully you can get your stuff back.

Also, DewDeDash is right. If you want to do that, I'd be glad to help.

Thanks, I'll consider it.

Anyways, I went through eBay and Craigslist to see if a bundle matching my games was being sold, but no results have come up, unfortunately. =/

This reminds me of the time my laptop was stolen. (it was my dads at the time, but he gave it to me.) Anyways, someone went through my dads house and stole the laptop and attempted to steal the desktop when my dad came in. The guy got away but the idiot left his bike. We tried getting the police to do finger print test on the bike, but they said it had cracks in it or some BS like that. Anyways they couldn't do anything but look for the suspect.

Well, my step uncle is great with computers and installed a program on the laptop that lets you use it from another computer when the laptop is connected to the internet. So not more than a few days later the people were on face book. My uncle just happened to be on at the same time and took several screen shots of the page and turned it into the police. long story short we got the laptop back and the person that had it, claimed they "bought it" off some guy.

Moral of the story is, your not going to get your stuff back unless you get really lucky or do something about it yourself.

Read it all. That seriously sucks. If you ever find the culprit, take something from him that's irreplaceable.

Yes because eye for an eye is always the best way to go.

Who said an eye? I'd rather pop him and take my stuff back for stealing something than letting him "live with the guilt."

That "guilt" is $1600 worth of VG and the miscellaneous. If you're going to take my stuff, I'll ensure that you're not going to be comfortable with it.

Or you can send him to jail...we do have a legal system. If you "pop" him, you're just as entitled to be in trouble as the other guy.

I'm pretty sure Pokemon Diamond/Spirit Tracks/Phantom Hourglass/etc. aren't $50 at sales price... I've never seen a straight up DS game for more then $35 (Only DS game that comes to mind was Heart Gold/Soul Silver due to the Pokewalker).

But yeah that blows. More then likely you'll never see those again.. Which sucks. Once something is stolen there really isn't any sure way of finding it. The police usually just write a report but they won't carry anything through.
