Drill rest is near ****ing impossible to perfect.
Phanna himself's only advice was " You have to fast fall on the second last hit of the drill."
Then of course you still have to flip the opponent, hit your L cancel... and have moved exactly close enough to rest.
Ummm, I'll stick to my other rest techniques....
It's not nearly as hard as you describe it. Even after a few minutes of practicing I had a feel for the timing. Its not consistent (yet) but it'll get there. And the spacing's easy, you have the entire duration of the drill (minus the last couple hits) to line it up, then all you need to concentrate on is nailing the fastfall, lcancel, and rest.

Try doing it in the heat of a match.
If the combo didn't end with a rest I'd be all for it, but seeing as rest has the single greatest risk to it (certain death)...... I think I'll pass.

That can be said about everything though. Waveshine. OMG so many inputs i have so much risk given how badly spacies get juggled to death if i **** up. but people practice, learn how to do it properly and voila. it works. why would drillrest be different. harder? probably. but i don't see why it wouldn't be applicable.

pointman rob should learn how to platform cancel rest imho.

You forget that if you hit the l-cancel, the rest will hit guaranteed (provided they were at the right % and they flip). if you MISS the l-cancel, then the rest shouldn't even come out, cause you'd input the command during the lag. so at any point when you mess this up, you don't have to rest. just do something else.

The big difference is that if you miss a rest you WILL die, or eat a **** load of damage almost putting you in kill zone. If you miss a waveshine you might be vunerable for a moment.... but you wont sit in one spot immobile for like 5 seconds.

And yes, platform cancelling is much more awesomeness, you dont even have to rest after, just the whole movement bonus it gives you is awesome.

Pointman: As awesome as that sounds in a controlled environment, in the chaos of a real match its a million times harder to do of course. I mean if you get it to work consistently, then more power to you. I know I'm not going to give it a second thought though.

Don't missed waveshines usually lead to grabs? And god, no one can hurt Fox if they get a grab on him right? Like it won't lead to some long gay death/ledge-guard combo.

Are you actually going to compare that to the consequences of missing a rest?

Honestly with a bunch of characters I think it's worse. Sure, against Ganon it's better to mess up a waveshine, but not against a bunch of characters that can chainthrow/chain combo Fox into death or ledge guards (Marth, Fox, Falco, C. Falcon to an extent, Peach, ICs)

i think the main point im trying to make is, there are all kinds of indicators during this combo that will tell you whether you will land the final rest or not. If you do everything properly, the rest WILL HIT, ergo no risk. If you don't, you will know and if you attempt the rest anyway, then... you're dumb.

Anyway, that's all im sayin on that matter. I'll practice it along with everything else, cause its possible and who knows when i'll find a use for it.

If getting grabbed really hurt Fox as hard as you're making it out to be, then Fox wouldn't be half as much of a problem as he is.

Take Jigglypuff, THE lightest character (high tier at least) around, and now give whoever your facing the time to hit ANY fully charged move of there choice (and for characters like Fox a bunch of lasers AND whatever combo he wants).

I mean I can't believe you're stupid enough to actually argue this with me.

Yeah, a missed rest vs a Fox is a guaranteed death. Every time. You MIGHT survive if you started at 0%, and you're on Dreamland. but that's pretty much the only time.

When was the last time a Fox missed a waveshine, then had an opponent instantly kill them without trying, despite percentage, with the Fox being COMPLETELY helpless to stop it?

sometimes rests come as a surprise, and they can't react.
sometimes rests dont come at all, and that's very bad DI for a WoP.
sometimes they're high enough percent that it'll just kill them anyway.
sometimes even when they do survive, they're far away and jiggly's waking up by the time they get back to punish.
it deals 30 damage, and hardly any characters can do that kind of damage back that fast to make the trade worth it.

is that enough?

Eh i thought you guys meant the consequences of a missed waveshine meant illusioning off the stage lol, which would be pretty much on par with a missed rest

A) Jiggs isn't high tier. She wants to see Falco or Samus (debatable even...); everyone else is a hard counter to her or worse from her position on the tier list and up (and even several below her).

B) You can DI and survive hits with Jiggs. I would rather take a grab on a Fox. Fox tends to die or go off the ledge to most characters that can grab him (or in Falco's case it would be a shine, but same concept). And god, Fox's recovery is totally awesome and not gimp-able by the entire cast.

C) I think the only characters that see viable play where it is better to miss a waveshine then a rest include Ganon, and Ganon.

No, but that never stopped me from knowing more then you Run. Also, low tiers would be good =D.

Edit: Steve, will CoS have enough folks out to do some kind of crew battle? Same question for Sauga.

So, just to sum up this argument...

Its worse for Fox (the highest tier and fastest character in the game) to miss a waveshine and PROBABLY get grabbed, than it is for jigglypuff (the lightest character in the game, and easiest to KO without gimping) to miss a Rest and have to sit through 3 entire seconds of lag, while the opponent can take their time to line themselves up and all but guarantee a KO.

The only way this argument makes sense is like Ken said, if the Fox misses the waveshine by illusioning off the stage. Otherwise this is the dumbest argument ever, and either way im not continuing it.

Oh you were at starfurry?

; / Who do you play?

I don't think I got a match in with you...and I know I played aloooot of people.
I play Falco, and a terrible one at that. You didn't get a match in with me, I don't think there would have been much point either . I've just started getting involved with the scene, you wouldn't know me. I dipped into the waters in late 2005, but decided that I wouldn't be able to make it out to any other tourneys because of school =P. I only knew who most of you were because Peter (from Cambridge) pointed you out XD.

I also saw Peter's Fox get WTFOWNED by your DK. That was on my TV and Wii; but I doubt you'd recognize me on sight XD.

I doubt anyone from Sauga is coming at all
I'll be going, sucka! You lose. ;P

Well, I live in Waterloo now... but that's just because of school. I come home to sauga on weekends. Muahahahaha.

Also: lol @ people who think a missed waveshine is worse than a missed rest.
