we've already established that mic is the lowest form of man
lets move on.

you know, everytime I read these religious debates and see what people have to say about christianity and the bible, I wonder if they've ever actually read more then 10 pages of the bible, or have actually studyed christianity and been in those circles and communitiys, or if they are just being obnoxious and spouting secondhand opinions that they think sound good.

Although unfortunately she failed to articulate the the finer issues of the Internet filter. I'm sure a lot of the less informed people watching missed what she was really trying to say. To be fair though, a lot of the confusion was because everyone kept interrupting each other :/

Caotic I'm aware of freedom of speech. But when mic quotes something from the Simpsons to bag out something he clearly has no idea about is quite immature and stupid.
I was just elaborating on what Arrow was mentioning, and in general the fact that there's a whole bunch of stuff in the bible that ****s many a person for such stupid things, such as Leviticus 20:9 "For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death", Exodus 35:2 "Whoever does any work on (the sabbath) it shall be put to death." or Leviticus 21:16-23 "Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous."

But this isn't really the thread for great religious debate. If I did manage to offend you Tibs, I'm sincerely sorry, but it's The Simpsons. If you're gonna get offended over something they said, blame Matt Groening.

Lol mic. You need to bible study more.
It looks to me like you're one of them guys that just looks at things from their own perspective or just one and follows that.

Anyway....

Wow Sex Party was amazing in that segment - able to deflect all of the misrepresentations and the insults that Family First threw at her. Very calm and wasn't taking any of Wendy's garbage, even explaining in a deliberate and direct manner just how wrong she was. By comparison Wendy came off as whiny, shrill, full of ad hominem attacks, clueless and - quite frankly - rude and disruptive to what should have been a clean discussion.

"Nono, gay marriage isn't about equality at all. It's about the good of Australia. I see no reason to change the Marriage Act at all" .__________.

2:08 HOLY CRAP Wendy almost said "I would support sex abuse" and stopped herself at the last moment. Thank goodness.

"billboards billboards worst thing ever - yes I agree, they are a small part of it"

embarrassing.

also mic, its very easy to simply quote one part of the bible taken out of context to make it look like something else.

a simple example for your small mind would be "I like eating bread off of another mans body" now if we just take part of that "I like eating bread" it changes things completey.
thats a very simple way to look at it, but the bible is full of things like that, and things that say one thing but mean another, keeping in mind its full of analogys and has been translated its original language (and as anyone with a brain knows, translating can cause all sorts of misinterpritations)

long story short, most of you dont actually have a clue what your talking about, the bible is very complicated and thats why theres scholars and bible study schools and whatnot.
get better.

The interesting thing is that despite it being so complicated and unclear at times it is apparently extremely clear on matters of church policy.

The things mic said were metaphors and clearly only a means to a different point entirely, no matter how straight forward they seemed. There's no way the bible would say that people with flat noses are unfit for anything. But stuff about homosexuality on the other hand is totally clear, reasonable and there are no two ways about it. If it wasn't reasonable they wouldn't have said it.

Interesting, no?

I would like to read the bible closely sometime. Maybe I'll join a bible study group to get some learning form the experts.

I'm not trying to start an argument. Especially in the election thread. I just think it's all very interesting!

Translated several times, through a few different languages. Really, it probably doesn't even resemble the original Bible, and the original writers, even if they did get it from God himself, are probably laughing at us. 'They actually think we wrote THAT? Oh, those silly humans.'

Just so people know, the net filter is 100% canned. Don't let it influence your vote.

Reading through this thread prompted me to ask some questions also.
This topic is full of pro gay rights thinking but at the same time a whole lot of pro bible talk.

Wouldn't following Christianity properly more or less rule out any compassion for homosexuality? If not then how do you pick and choose which segments of the bible to follow or not follow?

Or if you consider some quotes from the bible to be mistranslated or just purely vague then how do you feel about fellow Christian groups following them to the letter?

case in point*(thanks, but it still looks funny to me)

Larry, I don't think a single pro gay rights person in this thread was being pro bible. That aside, your point is a valid one.

Also the correct phrase is case in point. The example, ie case, that illustrates the point you are making.

Gosh that was pedantic.

You should actually look at what the sex party is before commenting on people's maturity.

It's not a joke party, it just has a name designed to draw attention.
There is such thing as freedom of speech. Isn't that right caotic?

Pro-bible picking out homosexuality as okay would be in a bit of a pickle.

Homosexuality is one of two things the old testament (and I don't think anything 'new' was added) says should result in death.
The other is eating certain types of shell fish.

So people who like lobster are GOING STRAIGHT TO !

Not too many people care, really.
Belief in God is honestly able to be separate from the laws that governed society thousands of years ago that may not/should not apply today.

I never said that he wasn't allowed to say it. I said that he should (ie, I recommend that he) check the background of the party before assuming it was a joke.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean that there are no basic guidelines (not rules) that can stop people from making false assumptions.

I don't even think that I was being particularly harsh. Maybe you were joking, tibs...?

Edit: was it a reference to the family first woman in that video saying its a free country?

/grasping at straws

double edit: tobysaur sounds nice <3

Sorry, several things were punishable by death.

Only the two things I listed though were considered an "abomination"
(the harshest word used in the old testament)

With the Federal Election just a fortnight away, Gamespot quizzed the Labor Party, the Liberal/National Coalition and the Australian Greens on a range of topics close to the heart of gamers around the country.

When it came to reforming our classification system, only the Greens declared unequivocal support for the introduction of an R18+ rating for games.

“It is bizarre that Australia is one of the only countries in the Western world without an adult classification for games,” says Scott Ludlam, Greens Senator for Western Australia. “We believe that a change to the classification system should occur in the next term in parliament.”

“The Greens will continue to support a campaign for R18+ for games. We also believe that the games industry and gamers have done a really good job of highlighting the issue and putting it on political agenda. We’re going to play our part in parliament and the community to make sure people know about the issue. We plan to raise this issue during our upcoming federal election campaign and make sure it is part of the debate.”

Both the Labor and Liberal spokespersons acknowledged the submissions received earlier this year during the period of public consultation on the issue, but declined to confirm their stance. Instead, both parties called for yet more consultation on the issue.
+Rep Greens.

To me this election is like trying to choose between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.

I've already voted since I moved OOS coming up to election time - went Greens with Liberal preference - Newcastle is a stupidly safe labor seat :( we need more swing, prob should have just gone Lib #1 but idk it would be nice to see Greens win some seats - even if it isn't in my region.

The Socialist party is also for homosexual marriage, against the net filter, and for an R18+ rating, but nobody ever talks about them. :(
