I’ll nominate Inkling here just to rip the bandaid off and make room for Ultimate.

Job #51:
Elline & Claycia (Kirby & The Rainbow Curse/Rainbow Paintbrush - 2015)

Methinks the developers could have some fun with these two. They could summon in little clay minions akin to :dedede:'s Waddle Dees, or maybe transform into a tank or a rocket like Elline does to Kirby in their game. I could see them using their game's clay art style to the extreme, contorting and squishing their bodies when they get hurt, attack, crouch, dodge, etc.

Also, more female characters!!!!1! Suggesting them over Susie mainly to promote the ONE Kirby game on the Wii U.

Perkilator Perkilator Azula

ssbashworld ssbashworld Yuri
Masked Borb Masked Borb Elline & Cynthia

Vote for your two most wanted, where yours is not first.

1. Azura
2. Inkling
3. Yuri

My preference towards Azura mostly comes from Fates being more likely to become popular, and I picked Yuri to potentially introduce a new franchise.

1. Yuri - This is a pretty ingenious idea that I would have never thought of. Sure to be a very unique kit conceptually, a vibe that nobody else on the roster is providing as a horror character too. Brings a new, fairly long running series to the roster. I’m super into it.

2. Inkling - Safe pick. Maybe hedging their bets on Splatoon was a bit iffy at the time but it must have been clear to someone this was going to be a big hit. I kinda do think they were the ideal starting newcomer for Smash Ultimate so idk who’d take their place.

3. Elma - I haven’t played XBX but I always thought she’d be pretty cool. This game could have definitely used some more love and we could use some more characters with guns. Lower priority because XBC is still pretty green to be getting two characters yet, but this game is so drastically different that it doesn’t really matter all that much.

Honorable Mention: Elline & Claycia - Admittedly this one is a really hard sell, but I just admire the creativity. Maybe in a wilder roster we could play around with these two. I just like the pitch for a character designed to be made of clay.

I’m not gonna vote for Azura because I think we’re ok on Fire Emblem rn and will inevitably add someone new next game. But she’s a way better choice than Corrin so I’d be ok with it. Lance user would give us some weapon type variety as well.

Inkling is the final DLC fighter.

Check-In: What are your opinions on the SSB For Roster Overall. What do you like about it, and what would you have liked to see? What do you expect and hope to see in the Alternate Ultimate roster?

Overall, I like the roster a lot, and I think the DLC lineup was strong overall where we brought back Mewtwo and Dark Samus, added some popular/prominent third party characters, and some rising stars. The only thing that I would have considered is saving Isabelle for Ultimate and putting Black Shadow in her spot.
In terms of Ultimate, the only characters that I’m truly confident in are King K. Rool, Simon, and Decidueye for base game and Banjo-Kazooie for at worst DLC. Outside of that, I’m unsure how we’ll handle the omitted spots from Inkling, Ridley, and Isabelle. The other thing to consider with Isabelle is that we need to bring back an eighth cut fighter, so it probably would be most faithful to time constraints where Isabelle’s original development time was used to bring back Black Shadow in this instance.
My most wanted characters are very improbable (Icies, Amy, Tidus), but I might do a throwaway nomination for one of them.

I get it. I get why Sakurai went for Corrin now. Probably not a bad shout to include after some time after FE Fates released.

My support will mainly be going to Pyra & Mythra, during DLC waves. But for the base game, I don’t really know.

I’m tempted to not even bother with K. Rool. Donkey Kong is already at four characters, and adding a fifth just seems like overkill.

Perhaps we could look to a different Mario expanded universe character instead, such as Waluigi, Ashley, or a weirder pick like Piranha Plant or Shy Guy.

Zelda could do with a character? Or even an echo fighter? Young Link is still an option, after we got MM3D.

We could just spread echo fighters out a little more. We might as well consider Lucina, Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, or even new echo fighters entirely.

Alvis might be decent choice if a scenario akin to Yoshi getting a Crafted World skin prior to CW releasing.

Check-In:
Roster is solid. I like that we were able to maintain several of the picks that made our previous roster unique, such as Krystal, Lyn and Isaac, while still managing to pack in all the essentials and bring in fresh new faces. Many of the necessary Smash 4 vets from our universe are here, and some of the more creative pulls like Wii Fit Trainer, alongside fitting additions like Yuka and Takamaru. I’m glad Daisy made it back this time and I’m glad that we got to bring Isabelle in early.

I have mixed feelings about getting Inkling in early, since they were such a no-brainer character to kick off Ultimate with, but I suppose it’s for the best if we’re considering shaving off one unique newcomer for the sake of one extra veteran. Personally I think we ought to just ignore it and add six newcomers like the original game, just for the sake of conversation. But I get the reservation. I also have mixed feelings about Dixie as essentially an echo fighter, but she was one of the strongest choices offered. Was probably gonna be her best shot at this point.

I expect we’ll see K. Rool, and I think we should. I do understand the reservation at 4, soon to be 5 Donkey Kong characters, but two of them are straight clones (one will be labeled an echo) and one of them isn’t even from the Country games. Also, when it comes to Everyone is Here, it becomes more about the value of the individual characters anyway. Feels like a waste of time to be overly concerned about series balance, because certain series are gonna get a bit more flooded just by nature of their progression. DK Jr matters about as much here as Young Link or Pichu would. They’re here for completion sake.

I’m not sure which other characters I expect, or even want for base game. I think Simon ought to join. But who else is a major, contemporary Nintendo star that we haven’t already added through DLC? Who else beyond K. Rool would be a popular fan favorite around this point, when Ridley is already here? These are the questions we have to start thinking about and I’ll be curious to know the answers. I don’t feel too strongly one way or the other, but I think Bandana Dee will probably slot in comfortably here for both roles. Maybe we’ll get a Zelda newcomer?

The echo lineup will be interesting to see pan out as well. Many of the picks from Ultimate have already been covered, so we’re going to have to get a little creative. I think Shadow is probably guaranteed though.

I’ll move onto the alternate ballot, but feel free to provide your opinion on our Alternate For roster.

Job 52: Rank your three most wanted fighters for our Alternate Ultimate

1. Sora
2. Tidus
3. Amy Rose

I’m just going to be honest and admit that these are just characters I’d find fun to play as or like in their real games.

On another note, which, if any fighters should be held off as a potential challenger pass 11 as in the real timeline, Sora (the most requested fighter in the real timeline) was decided after the other fighter pass 2 characters?

Question: Can we submit any three fighters for the alternate Ultinate, or are we limited to 2015 and before?

1. King K. Rool

3. Terry Bogard

Honestly still figuring out what my top priorities are but these three are characters I know I’d be advocating for. Maybe a bit iffier on Terry if we simply wanted to differentiate our third party lineup a little more but yeah.

Honorable mention to Simon, but we’ll get there.

Also I didn’t see this before, but yeah IMO if we vote Sora in he should be regulated to DLC.

It might be difficult to install these kind of specific limitations to base roster but I feel like there’s a reason that this didn’t happen until FP2, and to our knowledge pretty much only happened through a chance encounter in an elevator. Collaboration with Disney, and even most western third parties for what it’s worth, feel more difficult to weigh out in contrast with companies that have already gotten the play and are clearly fair game for base - Sega, Capcom, Konami etc.

Bottom line is yeah, I think someone like Sora and maybe Banjo / Steve are worth putting aside for their respective DLC positions rather than setting aside space on the base roster. But I can see why we wouldn’t want to put a limitation like this forward because past a certain point it gets a little arbitrary. Maybe the third party slot on base roster will be regulated to a company already present??

Here are the votes
Amy Rose 1
Arle Nadja 2
Andy 1
Bandana Waddle Dee 6
Banjo & Kazooie 6
Crash Bandicoot 5
Dr. Eggman 2
King K. Rool 9
Knuckles the Echidna 2
Shovel Knight 3
Sora 7
Steve 4
Terry Bogard 4
Tidus 2
King K. Rool received the most votes, so he’ll join the roster. After that, we have Sora in second and Banjo & Kazooie and Bandana Waddle Dee tied for third. Because of the complications of third parties and DLC, I will set up two polls, one if Sora should be DLC (please note that he cannot join as base game) and if Microsoft characters are allowed base game (if it’s allowed, then Banjo & Kazooie join base game). Also, Bandana Waddle Dee will join the base roster.

Job 53: Submit a Pokemon up to Gen 7
Mew
Given the choices that we currently have for Pokemon, I’ll nominate Mew here as it would be the first mythic Pokemon on the roster, and it has relevance through multiple generations.
