Sonic's tested the waters of fighting games before, what with his 3D arena fighter as well as his...2D arena fighter? Nevertheless, we're going to create a platform fighter themed around the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. Nothing is off the table as long as it comes from that series.

Neutral B: Homing Attack
Sonic locks hovers in ball form before locking onto the nearest target and flying towards them, delivering decent damage.
Side B: Light Speed Dash
Sonic flies forward, leaving an after image and damaging anyone in his way (especially at the sweetspot, where he appears). Also can angle up or down.
Up B: Spring Jump
A spring appears below Sonic's shoes, bouncing him upwards without putting him in special fall. The spring can hit fighters on the way down.
Down B: Spindash
Sonic revs up in ball form before zooming forward at great speed, damaging anyone in the way. He can also jump out of this move to perform aerials.

Naturally Whisper fights with her Variable Wispon, a special weapon that utilises her ex-teams Wisps.

Neutral Special: Laser Mode
Whisper's role as the sniper returns. Using the power of the Cyan Wisp, she unleashes a powerful shot that can penetrate through multiple enemies. It requires charging but can do serious damage upon release.

Up Special: Hover Mode
Whisper activates the green Wisp on her Variable Wispon, allowing her to hover upwards briefly. Much like Peach, she'll slowly float down with this parasol like move.

Side Special: Rocket Mode
Whisper's original Wisp was the orange one and so it seems only appropriate that one of her special be dedicated to this powerhouse bazooka like power. Does heavy damage although the explosive is a little hard to aim. When fired in the air Whisper will be sent backwards from the direction she shoots due to not being able to brace herself.

Down Special: Cube Mode
Using the power of the blue Wisp, Whisper can transform her gun into an Amy Rose style hammer. Whisper can slam it down knocking opponents back. Can be used in the air, to knock enemies back even further.

Submit a fighter
Anyone's fair game, and depending on the amount of submissions, we might allow multiple fighters to join post-voting. Characters who originated in non-game media are not elligible for this job - there will be ample opportunity to submit those characters in the future. Variations of characters are allowed (like Sonic The Werehog or Boom Knuckles) and that'll be the case in the future unless otherwise stated.

Submit a modern stage
All of our stages are classic-originated or classic-themed, so let's get a new stage in here to represent the lankier games in the series! Any stage that debuted in or after Sonic Adventure is allowed.

Is Flicky ellegible or considered a cameo character?

Modern stage: Dragon Road

This is an extremely simple stage - you fight atop a dragon bridge in the air that has bumps going up and down like a Chinese dragon dance. There's a walkoff to the left, but the head is a wall leading to a pit, with the horns being soft platforms.

Flicky

Yep, the bird. Flicky would be a small, lightweight fighter akin to Pikachu who would likely fight with hammers and pots like in her origin game - we could perhaps give her a few Roboticization related attacks or even let her get help from her chicks. It's also possible she could have the other Mobian fauna as alternate costumes, though she'd have to be a bit more anthropomorphic than she is in the image and use a lot less if not no flapping attacks & abilities.

Silver is a well known Sonic character that debuted in a Sonic game released in 2006. He could have a unique fighting style using his telekinesis abilities.

Iconic Sonic level from Sonic Adventure 2. you would fight in the middle of the road, with a couple platforms to stand on, and a slope for elevation. would have walk-offs, and stage hazards including cars and GUN robots

Character Submission: Blaze

Blaze The Cat is a pyrokinetic princess from another dimension (or...the future? Sonic lore is fun) who first appeared in Sonic Rush. She would be this game's shoto, taking inspiration from both Sonic and Smash's Mario for her fiery attacks as well as likely having the Boost and her spinning fire tornado in some form.
Stage Submission: Emerald Coast
The graphic below uses images from Sonic Advance, though it's only to represent the possible layout of Emerald Coast, not Neo Green Hill Zone.

Imagine a somewhat smaller Big Battlefield, with one long platform within jump height for most characters, and another platform just above it. It's a large stage that can easily fit eight fighters somewhat comfortably (as shown in the above graphic), however it can be used as a counterpick in competitive 1v1 matches, specifically one that would favor rushdowns over zoners due to the abundance of platforms. The layout is not directly based on any one part of Emerald Coast, but rather the general theme of the level’s many platforms on a beach environment.

With hazards on, a Rhinotank (the first enemy in Emerald Coast) will bury out of the ground about 20 seconds after the match has started. It has a line of vision about ⅓ of the stage in front of it, and when it spots someone in front of it, the Rhinotank becomes surprised and soon after charges straight towards the fighter, hornfirst. They're pretty slow, but they keep the fighters on their toes. If you’re feeling evil, you can grab an opponent and force them to get hit by the badnik while suffering no damage yourself. When a fighter is close enough, the Rhinotank sends them flying upwards with its horn, doing somewhat of a limbless uppercut. It deals 16% damage and will start to KO opponents around 85%. You can destroy the Rhinotank by dealing 20% to it, but in order to avoid being hit yourself, you'll want to use a long disjoint or a projectile to tear down the robotic rhino. After it attacks, the Rhinotank will pause for a second before moving again.

Appearing first in Sonic Forces, The Avatar was considered a pretty interesting idea.

In this game they would be the Mii Fighter equivalent being able to switch your Species, Gender, Outfit and Wispon

Space Colony ARK

The Layout

The stage would start out on the exterior of the ARK and you would start on a Platform the size of FD after a bit you would move into the Inside of the ARK

1st Formation

Lost Colony

This Formation would keep the platform the same size but you would appear on top of the bridge, and on both sides damaging liquid is there and so are 2 exploding capsules that move up and down, A GUN Hunter appears on the bridge too.

2nd Formation

Crazy Gadget

This Formation takes the platform you were on previously and puts it down a Large Shaft, There are no new hazards and GUN Beetles are following the platform down the shaft

3rd Formation

Meteor Herd

You exit the Shaft and end up in Meteor Herd, The stage is now a Walkoff with Meteors that Explode falling down onto the stage, you can see 1 or 2 GUN Rhinos in the background

4th Formation

Final Rush/The ARK

This has the original Platform zooming through several parts of the Station and the Platform Tilts and spins in various ways

Several GUN Enemies appear here like GUN Beetles, GUN Hornets, GUN Hawks and Artificial Chaos'

Final Formation

Finalhazard

This Formation sees the Return of the 1st Formation only this time Finalhazard is sticking out of the ARK and is shooting lasers at the Platform, Super Sonic and Super Shadow (If they one of the current fighters) appear and take out Finalhazard ending with a Large Flash that Resets the stage.

Fighter Submission: Fang the Sniper / Nack the Weasel

Having a gunslinger in the game is a fun idea to me, and Fang's the perfect character for the job IMO. Plus, he's probably the best representative for the "classic" era of Sonic.

Modern Stage: Crisis City

Like it or hate it, we should represent Sonic 06 in some way, and Crisis City is probably the most iconic level of the game. Plus, I just think it's a really cool stage concept - Maybe we could even have a guest appearance from everyone's favorite car-carrying tornado!

Heavy and Bomb
Take your best guess as to which one is which. These two robots have only appeared in Knuckles' Chaotix and the Archie comics (in fact, this artwork is from Archie, although it is fairly accurate to their game designs). In Chaotix, Heavy and Bomb are said to be Badniks who defected from Eggman and joined forces with Knuckles and his allies. They are both playable characters in the game, but they cannot be controlled together.

For those unaware, the gameplay gimmick for Knuckles' Chaotix was that you'd control two characters at once who were chained together by two connected rings they held, as depicted on the game's box art (seen below). Each character had different abilities, allowing you to swap between the two you had active in order to make use of whichever ability you needed/wanted. Heavy and Bomb were both characters you could potentially receive as partners to be chained to, but were both considered to be detrimental. Heavy was, well, heavy, and as such would weigh the other character down and slow their movement. Bomb, meanwhile, would hazardously explode when in danger.
1646720206158.png

Despite being the characters you don't want to see when playing Knuckles' Chaotix, I believe they would serve as the best possible representatives for the game in a scenario such as this. They will play like the Ice Climbers, only chained together with the rings...and the two characters are basically Bowser and Pichu. Heavy is a slow but powerful heavyweight, while Bomb is a quick attacking lightweight who often inflicts self-damage.

Fighter Submission: Professor Pickle
76CA64B6-E335-4042-9FAF-BBDCCBA00068.png

Professor Pickle is a world-renowned scholar and expert in ancient literature. He appeared in Sonic Unleashed and helped Sonic save the world from Dark Gaia by helping him find the Gaia Temples. I had this idea from the Sonic Warriors thread, Professor Pickle could use the Gaia Manuscripts he found to summon different types of minions from Dark Gaia to help him fight. He could also use his cane and cucumber sandwiches for his attacks as well.

Modern Stage: Central Station
9D5D1955-E289-4A54-A6F2-8BEE5A4EB494.jpeg

The stage would be set in front of SS Central Station (like the picture above). Many civilians would be seen in the background, either walking or standing still. Occasionally, workers could be seen in the back on their strike. Cars will also be able to drive from the background to the end of the stage, acting as both platforms and hazards.

Still up Peach's dress.
As nothing is off the table and both Tangle and Whisper made it from the IDW comics to Sonic Speed Battle within the past few years...

Job #1: Dr. Starline
Dr-Starline.png

As he's not a video game character I may need to explain his character a bit:

Who is Dr. Starline?
This dapper platypus is Dr. Eggman's biggest fan in the IDW comics, not only restoring Eggman's memories after he gets amnesia and becomes the good natured Mr. Tinker, but eventually becoming his right hand man and apprentice during the Metal Virus arc.

However, over time Starline realises that Eggman isn't nearly as flawless as he had thought him to be.

Never meet your heroes they say, and it soon becomes clear that not only does Dr. Eggman have no vaccine for the virus prepared should they be attacked, he doesn't have a plan beyond spreading absolute chaos. He also see's Starline as dispensible as soon as he stops being useful to him.

Disillusioned but still holding out hope for Dr. Eggman, Starline attempts to kill Sonic for him to get him out of his way once and for all...and he comes incredibly close. Had Silver not been there to put a barrier up around them Sonic would have died for sure. Eggman however is not pleased, and threatens to kill Starline if he tries that again stating that HE(Dr. Eggman) must be the one to kill Sonic.

Starline eventually leaves and creates his own faction teaming up with other antagonists(and then betraying them), and even cloning Sonic and Tails into the current focus of the comics, Surge the Tenrac and Kitsunami the Fennac into his two loyal henchmen, altering their memories to perfect his super soldiers.

So what can Dr. Starline do as a fighter?
During the Metal Virus Arc he had the ability to open portals with the Warp Topaz on his hand, essentially giving him unlimited teleportation and the ability to send those he wants gone to far off distances. These days he's developed the Tricore which will allow him to swap between Speed, Power and Flight (yes they are the Sonic Heroes abilities) which have turn him into quite a versatile hand to hand combatant.

Outside his glove abilities Starline also has highly potent poison in his heel spurs(a reference to real male platypuses having this) and his incredible intellect.

Unfortunately having modelled himself on Dr. Eggman, Starline has also picked up a lot of Eggman's flaws such as his short sightedness, stubborness, backstabbing and overestimating his own brilliance. This can be displayed in his animations.

Job #2: Planet Wisp

Planet-Wisp.png

I likely don't need to go into as much depth, but Planet Wisp has many natural platforms and a unique aesthetic to it. Wisps dance in the background as fighters beat the stuffing out of one another.

Job 2: Egg Carrier (Sonic Adventure)
SA1 - Egg Carrier center dome
I feel like this could be an interesting traveling stage where it starts on the center dome where Chaos 6, Zero, and Beta are fought, but then it changes to other destinations over time, such as Knuckle’s area in the Sky Deck, the main interior area, and the gear room that Amy and Gamma go through in Hot Shelter. Some Badnicks and Zero could appear as hazards on the Sky Deck and Hot Shelter areas.

5. Heavy & Bomb
6. Professor Pickle
7. Dr. Starline (Technically I didn't allow for non-game characters in this job, but due to me not noticing at first and failing to bring it to YoshiandToad's attention, I'll allow it.
8. Metal Sonic

We will be adding two of these characters to start us off. Ranked voting is in effect, voting for your own as first is allowed, only three votes per user.

As for modern stages, we have:
Dragon Road
City Escape
Emerald Coast
Space Colony ARK
Planet Wisp
Egg Carrier

I've made it so you can vote for 2 in the below Strawpoll, although ranked voting is not in effect.

Really awesome lineup, glad to see such a great range of ideas here! Next jobs will be posted later tomorrow once we're well into this voting period (don't want to overwhelm people with having to vote and submit things.

I've come to make an announcement: Crisis City is missing from the Strawpoll, and it's my bad. If you wouldn't mind, please revote on this new poll. Limit increased from 2 to 3 as both compensation for the mistake on my part and since we have seven stages in the lineup now instead of six.

Here's our next job while voting is going on: Submit music lists for Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Sanctuary!

Because it's proven to be a great system for series-focused creation threads, we'll be borrowing from the Mario Smash thread for our music submission process. Basically, we'll submit exactly four songs per stage after adding said stage. Today we're getting three of our locked stages out of the way.
You may have noticed that these stages all have their original tracks in the music list in the OP. Well, songs that play on a stage by default in the Sonic series will become playable on those stages automatically if they make it in (so for example, if Rooftop Run got in, then the song Rooftop Run (Day) from Sonic Unleashed would be playable by default, but we would still submit a list of 4 songs for the stage. Same goes for stages that don't have their default music in Smash already, like Ice Cap Zone).
(Additionally, at any time during the thread, you can submit a song already in the game (including ones that we've submitted over time) to be played on other stages. If you want His World to be played on Sky Sanctuary, that is something you can do at any time, and I'll edit the OP to reflect that as long as the song choice makes sense.)

Here are my submission for Green Hill, might submit for the other two later on.
Emerald Beach (Sonic Battle)
Sunset Hill Act 1 (Sonic Advance 3)
Modern Green Hill (Sonic Generations)
Green Hill Act 2 (Sonic Mania)

The stage voting will close tomorrow, slightly earlier in the morning than usual as I have a really long test to take. Fighter voting will close tonight around 9 PM eastern.

Voting for the stage is still underway.

In other news, our first voted-on newcomers to Sonic Smash Bros are Blaze The Cat and Silver The Hedgehog! Pretty iconic duo, I'm glad to see they made it in together.

However, my sources from both the future tell me that we are in desperate need of a roster number our else this thread will suffer and become forgotten along with its elder brother, the Sonic Mania 2 thread. So in light of that, here is our next job.

Submit a roster number!

My submission will be 60, I think this is a reasonable number given we'll be including all aspects of the Sonic brand (though obviously we haven't gotten to non-game stuff just yet).

Still up Peach's dress.
I'll suggest 45 for base game.

That seems like an obtainable number that gives us a good amount of variety without feeling like we're running out of characters we'd all like to see.
If we still want more afterwards, there's always a season pass DLC option to bolster that number.

I actually intended for stage voting to end way earlier in the day but I got busy. The results our in, and City Escape is our next location to duke it out!
Music submissions will last for another 1-2 hours most likely, and the roster number submissions for about 3 hours.

Here's a bit of an informal job in the meantime - do you guys want to do a control scheme job or nah? I don't mind having one but if we didn't we could certainly move the thread along a bit faster. If we don't have a controls job, we would just submit four specials at the least for moveset jobs.

Music submissions are closed!
Vote below for which tracks you'd like to see enter the game.

Next Job: Submit an equivalent to Smash's classic mode!
This job's been done to death in other creation threads, but I'd like to see what we come up with given how distinctive Sonic is as a series.

Classic Equivalent: Emerald Trials
There's a short, skippable cinematic of Knuckles on top of the Master Emerald, thinking a monologue about how one needs to pass every Chaos Emerald Trial to be able to harness the power of the Master Emerald, or something like that. It's only half a minute long if you want to watch it. After that, you go through seven different challenges, where three of them are exclusive to your character, and the other four are somewhat random. The challenges can be anything from "defeat the giant Knuckles" to "defeat an enemy with this specific item" to "KO Shadow with a meteor smash". After completing all seven, you enter the Master Emerald for the "Master Trial" and defeat the boss. Your % and stocks carry over between battles, but you get to rest at the Emerald Altar in between trials, where there is a limited amount of healing items for you to consume like in All-Star mode. When you're ready, you can jump on the Chaos Emerald of your choosing to take on the next trial.

Next Job: Submit a moveset for Sonic

Sonic's moveset has always been a point of contention within the Super Smash Bros fanbase. Well, now that he's starting his own Smash game, his moveset is available for renovations! Please submit 4 special moves at least, no Final Smashes, taunts, or victory animations for now. Adjustments can be both visual and functional (for example, you can add a pose to Sonic's Homing Attack, but you can also swap out Spin Charge for Boost if you'd like). His Ultimate moveset will be an option by default.
