Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Good point, but I wouldn't be surprised if they found some way around it.

Besides, not like I'd mind. I don't know why it'd be too much of a problem... Unless you're abusing the camera mid-fight to look under the female fighters' dresses, and zoom in on Samus & Bayonetta... I won't judge.

I've stated it before, but 2B technically does have a Nintendo presence.

I've also stated before that, the issue with her presence on Nintendo is that it wasn't a major one.

She appears on Phantasy Star Online 2 for all consoles, Switch included, alongside A2 and 9S. The issue with this though is that it isn't even on a game in her own franchise, or a Square Enix game, but merely a collaboration with SEGA.

Believe me, I'm well aware of the odds, and the facts floating around that both support her chances, and go against her chances. I'd love to be blinded by hope like many others, but I try to keep my expectations grounded. My hopes, however, I let roam free to do what they like.

I do my best to prevent my bias from clouding what I think will happen, instead of what I want to believe will happen.

All in all, she has had a Nintendo presence, but it's not a very large or noticeable one. Compared to the likes of Joker, Snake, or Cloud, who have appeared on Nintendo consoles at least once through games in their own franchise, if not their own game, 2B's is in a 3rd party game by SEGA only mostly played over in Japan for the most part that is on the Xbox one, PS4, and Switch.
My biggest fear for 2B's chances would be the fact that she's already on Soulcalibur. I don't know if Square would be fine with doing the same guest character across two games. If Square's view for guest characters are purely to promote their games, regardless of if other characters would sell more then I don't think it'd make sense for them to choose the same character again.

Personally I don't think the "appearing on Nintendo" rule is as relevant as it once was.

Do it chief. Lemme die

c o u l d bring on future Bloodborne rep.

Not really likely, but can no longer really be ruled out. entirely.

Oh no I think Saber would be neat, I'm talking about Crono as after a while I concluded Crono Trigger is simply ok and that I'm probably not the best judge for JRPGS
Gwen you have never so deeply offended me
Is that supposed to be a lion or a bear? Or a Lear(?) i suppose.
It's a lion. She rides one because she's known as the Lion King

EDIT: clicked post reply on accident

Wow you really think Chrono Trigger is only okay??

Gonna have to agree there there's nothing special about it tbh. Went back and played it a year or two ago and I couldn't get into it

I'll never understand the 'too anime' argument.

It's a Japanese game, with characters who are primarily designed to fit that aesthetic.

Sure you have guys like Mario, Simon and Snake who stick out, but we've had 'anime' designs ever since 64 with Link.

True, but the whole “too much anime” thing didn’t really start until Smash 4 afaik.

It would really suck if the only stage we could hear persona 5 music on is the ugly subway.
Maybe Mementos will be a transforming stage and feature some of the more iconic palaces like the Casino and Castle..or it could feature the more interesting lower area.

It's 2040. Anime has been eradicated by Captain Falcon Smash Bros fans. Desperate for characters to add to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Extreme Deluxe edition, Sakurai turns to the Western video game industry.

"Surely they'll like these characters, don't the gaijins love these games?"

This is what you get. You asked for it. "Never ask me for anything ever again."

Part of me feels that the swamp of FE representation in 4. may be part to blame of the "anime" complaint. It wasn't so bad in Brawl since Marth and Ike were the only FE characters and the majority of the newcomers were mainly cartoony. Then 4 suddenly added 4 more FE characters, two of them being DLC out of 7 characters. This peaked with the 2nd DLC FE character Corrin, one of the most controversial characters in Smash.

Roy and Corrin have fun playstyles though. :)

I mean, I think I'm just spoiled by modern JRPGs. Looking back, it doesn't have much over the newer games in the genre.
I have yet to find any other RPG that has made me feel the same way as I did with Chrono Trigger. This isn't me saying they suck, I still love them, but no other game has just managed to just click with me so perfectly.
CT did so many things right and I just wouldn't realize that until I played other games, they always felt like they were missing something. Every little thing just adds up to this amazing experience and shining example of what game design should be like and it's just... So ****ing perfect.

Roy would've been hype as hell for "Everyone is Here" even if you weren't that much of a Roy fan and Corrin would've made sense for the Ultimate base game after Fates' success despite people's hate for them, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time imo. Anyone who's last is going to be the target of a lot of salt but them and Bayonetta just sealed the deal for people to be furious.

I wonder what percentage of people who bought Smash Ultimate did so because Inkling’s purple alt exists
Hey. Hey. Purple's my favorite. Don't lump me into that category.

This reminds me of people trying to diss modern cartoons for looking samey and someone posting like 80 white guys with the same exact face and same art style

Rate my Fighter Pass:
-Saber
-Crono
-Solaire
-Phoenix Wright
let at least one of these happen please
Anything with Phoenix Wright gets no objections from me. :p

Crono would be neat too. Which reminds me, I need to go back and replay Chrono Trigger at some point; the first time I played it, it didn't really click with me until about halfway through, so I want to try it again and see if I feel any differently about the game the second time around.

tbh personal opinion but I never cared about "too much anime"

Like I thought there was a bit too much FE but just that one specific franchise, I didn't have an aneurysm when Cloud or Bayo were added

Maybe it's because I personally like more stereotypically "cool" characters like Shulk, Link, or Cloud and those types tend to be more anime looking. Whereas while they're goofy and charming a dude like Banjo or Crash wouldn't really be "cool" to me I guess. I mean certain Pokemon have that cool factor like Mewtwo or Lucario but the more commonly suggested cartoony characters like Banjo or Dixie don't really have that "damn that guy's sick he should be in Smash" factor like Elma or KOS-MOS do. That's probably why my favorite of the suggested cartoony characters is Geno, because while I have no vested interest in any of them Geno is just so damn cool

of course characters like lloyd are way cooler to me personally, but it's all subjective

I couldn't finish it. Maybe because I expected a lot out of it due to how hyped up it was. The story was good from what I've played. Wasn't super deep and the characters weren't super engaging like people told me but it was fine.
Not a fan of turn based combat unless the devs make it super interesting, like Pokemon and Persona (specifically 5 because of the artstyle). Needless to say, the combat didn't do anything for me. Wasn't awful, I was just kind of bored by it. I'm not interested in the game visually either. Not to say it was bad but it just landed at that okay spot for me.
I wasn't getting anything out of the game at all, and I really wanted to. It just kind of sucked for me.
