Honestly, I expected a ****storm of WTF WHY SAKURAI when Isaac, Skull Kid, and Shadow got deconfirmed. And I was disappointed that it didn't happen even though I'm happy it didn't happen

So any word on rumors of the DLC though?

Something to think about with DLC this time. I feel like people are doing the same things we've always done, and are applying rules to things that the community focuses on, and because of it may end up getting BTFO in the end.

Or at least it seems almost like exactly the same thing every time. Granted, we make rules because we are trying to find ways to narrow down who is in, but these "rules" are arbitrary and in reality, we don't know how any of this is going to pan out. We have a few rumors going around that have a sort of validity because of who is spreading it, but beyond that we've got nothing.

Now, I might be in the minority. But I absolutely think there's no reason to believe Spirits or Mii Fighter costumes disconfirm anyone for DLC at this point in time. If more information comes out that deliberately says, "If they show up here, they won't be playable", then we've got a concrete rule. Other than that, consider the possibilities. Basically, if Sakurai comes out in Famitsu and says, "Yeah Rex isn't going to be playable", then BAM!, it's decided. But until we get that, I see no reason to rule that sort of thing out.

Anyway, Spirits were deliberately noted as a replacement for trophies. In Smash Wii U, Lucas and Mewtwo started as trophies, and then received their very own Fighter trophies when they were DLC. This is extremely similar to the way spirits would work. The equivalent would be, "Oh look, they have a generic spirit." Then once they're downloaded, "Oh look, they have a fighter spirit!" That right there tells me there's nothing to worry about.

If a character with a Spirit becomes playable, they will receive a fighter spirit. It's just like how Mewtwo and Lucas had generic trophies and then had Fighter Trophies after.

Furthermore, with the whole Miif Fighter costume thing. Plenty of people seem to think Rex is basically screwed for DLC, but I don't think it's that clear at this point. Sure, he's got a Mii Fighter costume. Sure, we've never seen a Mii Fighter get the playable character in the same game. However, there's no pattern to be following, and what was true for Smash 4 with the Mii Fighters could absolutely be different. The way I see it, if they revealed the Chrom Mii Fighter costume first, plenty of fans would have assumed Chrom was out. It's quite the opposite however. Chrom is also in Robin's Final Smash (one of the most ridiculous things about this game I might add). Just something to think about.

Prior to the tweets from Sakurai after the Direct stating that the "DLC characters were picked" everyone assumed that what Sakurai meant by his statements on Rex being too late to be in game was meant to cover base roster and DLC. While there may have been talks of who they would include ahead of time, Sakurai himself tweeted that they were decided after the Direct, which to me, greatly shakes things up.

I think the pool of fighters that have a chance at DLC is pretty interesting. I think it will absolutely be a mix of 3rd parties and marketing, but keep in mind that they (Nintendo) aren't going to:

1) Force Sakurai to develop the characters they want
2) Not do market research to find out what will make them plenty of money/invest in series that can make them more money down the line

This is yet another reason, and I'm sure it's annoying at this point, that I wouldn't count Rex out. Rex and Pyra were easily one of Japan's top newcomer choices, and not adding them (or Elma) would be...an interesting decision. While Xenoblade isn't a huge series by any means, it's a budding one. If the don't add a character now, that seems like a missed opportunity to me at least.

Just keep an open mind and don't let these "rules" discount literally hundreds of options. I wouldn't count on Assist Trophies though, those ****ers are disconfirmed imo simply based on the effort and time the development of them took.

Posts like these are rare for the Smash community. Y'all should pin this one.

I was just browsing Grinch leak comments pre-November 1st and how people were going all in on team real just before the direct; I cringed at the thought of everyone getting their hopes up so high. Those deconfirmations must have been excruciating.

We wasted so much time on that thing.

At least it ended before I could cave in on Team Real. I hope to the deities that some jackass doesn't decide to do something like this again before the DLC reveals, that's just sadistic and cruel.

When Isaac showed up I just KNEW everyone was going to lose their minds lol. He was my second most wanted after K. Rool but I didn’t react negatively...he wasn’t in Smash 4 at all even in trophy form so it’s WAY BETTER than just not being in the game at all besides one GS music track.

in regards to Actual Smash Bros stuff he doesn't seem to have any real credibility. the only thing he's actually said for certain is steve getting in and that's something that's been widely circulated ever since vergeben leaked minecraft content being in the game. its an incredibly safe guess that means nothing to his validity

Bland is good when it comes to forum themes, imo. It's easy on eyes and makes it easier to focus on the text.

It's pretty much a game of telephone based on the fact that Verg heard from some guys that probably saw something. Naturally, people jumped to conclusions so fast that they didn't just skip to the ending of a book, but swept into the entire library.

I use both, when inclined. Only downside is the desktop can't run HTML5 vids, but I'm not bothered much.

It’s even more strange since we thought Rex and Springman were locks for DLC considering the former is only a costume and the latter got deconfirmed as an AT.

If we focus so much on Katlina, Steve or whoever then we might be suprised and they thankfully won’t happen.

I recall that until this guy popped up people like Arigarmy had to argue for Steve's case every day. People just refused to believe he'd be in over B&K. Him being in wasn't always as commonplace.

You may not feel you have reason to believe he's right but you also have no reason to give others biased misinfo.
