Should there even be any "Mario____" with just Mario/DK characters anymore?

I mean having more Nintendo characters in Tennis and Kart seems like a grand idea.

We have a Skell Stic----Spirit.

That is nothing. It is supremely odd when Xenoblade 2 has a Mii costume, multiple music tracks, and several spirits shown off, yet almost nothing for Xenoblade X.

Gonna throw it out there...I seem to remember a good amount of the fanbase wanting a character that nobody saw coming to get revealed.

We got one, and the salt is definitely...definitely real with it.

Is it...a character nobody saw coming that YOU wanted to see, or one that nobody saw coming like Piranha Plant? Pick one.

I wanted a character no one saw coming. People might remember me as the guy who unironically said he'd love Picross Mario (as an echo) or Mario's kart if we were getting another Mario rep. I'm rather pleased

Is there any known Xenoblade X content in Ultimate? That is a very suspicious absence. It is giving me vibes of seeing Dark Samus's Assist Trophy and Samus's Dark Samus color palette missing.

If that means we can finally have Ganon use his energy tennis balls, then I'm all for it. Would also be up for trident shenanigans.

Pig Ganon doesn't even use the move. Ganondorf used it... once. Some characters associated with Ganon/dorf do use it, though. Phantom Ganon(who actually uses it more than Ganondorf games-wise), Agnahim, a Blue Stalfos, and some unrelated Poe Sisters. Basically, Dead Man's Volley is just a recurring boss move at this point. It'd be nice if Ganondorf appeared again and used it, or regular Ganon used it even once. By the time Brawl came around, the move got used by characters like Blue Stalfos as is, which is part of why it doesn't really fit onto Ganondorf anymore.

That, and Ganon has his own projectiles, the Fire Bats.

In a twist, Ganondorf using his swords is actually not canon either in Ultimate, since that's from a non-canon space demo version. He solely uses them as Pig Ganon in OOT, and only during WW and TP as Ganondorf. Only 4 had him use his sword accurately via a custom move. It's kind of funny that way, really. People keep asking for a canon version, yet Sakurai does his best to move him further away from canon in Ultimate.

Because Smash aint big enough for the BOTH of them.

Also Smash only has so many resources.
Also because it's less fun to discuss which character is better when you can just put everyone in.

Hmm..Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors Spirits are even more likely now, not only did I previously see Rabbid Peach, but now I seen Tsubasa from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, so I now fully expect to see Linkle, Cia, and Lana Spirits honestly.

It was the latter for me. Piranha Plant's reveal blew me away.

Of course how do we know the people who are complaining are the ones hoping for a surprise? Just look at the poll at the top, Planty's inclusion might be controversial but more people are still on board with it then not.

What classifies a secondary character?

I'd argue it's a character that isn't part of the main reoccurring cast for their respective series.

For Mario a good example of this is Bowser Jr. I wouldn't say he's a main character, but he's definitely a secondary one. He makes his fair share of appearances but he's not in EVERY Mario game.

Gore isn't a part of his character, at least not as much as much as Bayonetta torturing her opponents before executing them.

Doomguy really just needs a few things to be doomguy
1. Guns
2. Punches

I would have been fine with Plum as far as that goes, but PP works.

Exaaaaactly. People are happy he got the sword, but the sword was never the point of all my complaints.

I wanted "canon Ganondorf" whether it come in the form of OoT Warlock GDorf or TP Swordsman Gdorf or WW Dual Swords GDorf
Or hell, even HW Trident GDorf.
They're ALL fantastic shows of what a heavyset person with sheer amounts of POWER could do.

Anything but a moveset that draws from a character from a completely different franchise.

Young Link is likely meant to be a replacement for OG Link as his moveset has been changed to the point where it's different to play as him now. Or I'm sure that's the justification behind the lack of alterations.

This is half the reason I wanted Black shadow as a falcon echo. I miss Melee Ganondorf lol.

The closest Steve could get to not being grating for me is if every alt was another member of the roster. Mario Steve, Link Steve, Samus Steve, etc

Puff being good again is kinda scary because she's incredibly degenerate in the only other Smash game she's good in. I don't think a lot of people that aren't Puff mains want to have Melee Puff again.

Honestly most cultures kinda suck when you get down to it.
Except the Swedes, they're pretty cool.

We’re definitely not getting Melee Puff back. But just knowing there’s a chance Puff could be mid tier is great. Don’t know enough with Puff to say for sure. Ness and Falcon are looking solid though

No, because Incineroar's the Smash 5 Pokemon character, Icies are the Brawl MELEE retro rep, and Sheik was Melee Zelda's gimmick that has grandfathered her way into future smash games purely on the basis of being a cool ninja character.

I'd keep Simon, but I absolutely have a Castlevania bias. I've only played MGS1 and watched a playthrough of MGS2 at this point in time, so I can't really speak as a Metal Gear "fan".

It's also worth noting that Dark Pit was playable for one level in Uprising, as well as in Light vs Dark.

I'm not sure I completely buy this "no one-off side characters" fan rule, but it would explain the lack of Zelda reps.

Looking at the direct footage of the character select, it seems that the echos get unlocked after every newcomer is unlocked.
