Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

So, here's a list of missing in anything characters that are first party

-Bandana Dee
-Elma
-Tibby

I'm going to try to watch footage of Spirits and see if there's any other missing characters. Is there any 1st parties that you guys have noticed are missing from anything?
Chunky Kong. Not expecting him to be playable, but for him to be noticed at all would be a boon for me.

So interesting question here; would you keep :ultsnake: or :ultsimon: as a Konami rep?
Simon, no contest.

If the Smash fanbase created it, it's not a real rule. :p
Although some remain unbroken, anyway (e.g. no more than 1 Smash entry per console generation).

Do you guys think Echoes get unlocked alongside their original counterparts? Or do you think you gotta do it separately?
Separately, with the prerequisite to their unlock being that you have to have the original.

There are so many ****ing Spirits it's pointless to do this before the game comes out.

My post got ignored, but it bears repeating. It is supremely suspicious that there is negligible content for Xenoblade X when its an older title than Xenoblade 2, which received a Mii costume, several spirits, and several music tracks. If Elma's spirit is missing from Ultimate (as well as if there is none or only one Xenoblade X track), then she is as good as confirmed for DLC.

Gonna throw it out there...I seem to remember a good amount of the fanbase wanting a character that nobody saw coming to get revealed.

We got one, and the salt is definitely...definitely real with it.

Is it...a character nobody saw coming that YOU wanted to see, or one that nobody saw coming like Piranha Plant? Pick one.
Piranha Plant.

Thing is Petey's one of my favorite Mario characters, and Mario's my favorite series.

So while I was basically in shock during his reveal my best friend and I talked about it and I got so, so excited upon realizing this was happening. I love those WTF characters, I love Mario, I love the concept of a Mario minion in Smash, and Piranha Plants are more iconic than half the characters in the game.

So I'm ecstatic.

Hmmm... That's tough
But assuming Smash is basically a Nintendo All Stars game, I would choose the one with more history with Nintendo, so :ultsimon:

Here's hoping...

Now that would be pleasant. :)

I mean, I was hoping to see some more X content in the base game, but if that's the case, then maybe not...

Well, not a rule of course.
Just a general trend
language.exe has stopped responding

So are you saying you'd have to do the entire thing again? That's dumb and stupid and also dumb and monotonous and dumb.
err, no.
I'm saying it's very likely you have to already have the original counterpart for the echo to become available.

I guess we'll see how much XCX content there is in the final base product.

I'm sure there's a litany of more minor stuff which we're still as of yet unaware.

Pokemon can't really be considered one off characters IMO. Just because of how the games work, any Pokemon that exists will be in future games.

Unless you're a weird variant like spiky eared Pichu or cosplay Pikachu.
On that note, compared to every other series that isn't Fire Emblem or one-off games that don't have much to pick from, it's a depressing prospect to support any Pokémon for Smash. If one you like in particular isn't a promotional Pokémon, you're SOL.

Unsurprisingly, today's fighter is Ken.

And Incineroar, though. As it should, seeing the reveal.

The lack of new Xenoblade content in general is pretty jarring. This is an active, on-going franchise with a future, and yet it has fewer playable characters than or the same amount as dead ones (Earthbound and F-Zero).

I'm not sure if those two groups are the same. There's probably some overlap but I can totally get why some are disappointed with Piranha Plant. I can also understand why some are critical about the selection.

Personally I love joke/goofier characters in fighting games. Dan, Yoshimitsu to an extent, they're great. I just personally wouldn't have chosen Piranha Plant as the one. I feel like a Koopa or something would be a lot more interesting. Hell, I would've loved to see a Goomba.

I'm not losing sleep over it though, I'm still gonna get him and goof off.

It's dangerous to make that assumption.

I believe a similar assumption was made when Isaac didn't show up as an AT in For despite being one in Brawl. We know how that turned out.

Apart from maybe one-game series, I still think it's a bit ****ed for a series to have as many characters as games.
I think it's fine, but that's mostly because one of them is an echo.

If DP was completely unique, I might think differently.

What about a character starring in three more Smash games than actual games from his/her own series?

A character like :ultsheik:?

I'm amazed that Sakurai has shown some restraint this time (although I'll grant that "Echoes don't count" is something that people are willing to support, given DP's reception last time).

They forget to describe his biggest differences. He has a ton of different A moves from Ryu and a different back throw. His side B multihits now just like SF4. He's basically his own character lol
The site staff messes something up, what else is new. At least his debut game was shown off a while ago.
Alright, how about this; which echo would you keep, :ultrichter: or :ultken:?
Richter of course, he's the one I support most after Daisy and DS.

So interesting question here; would you keep :ultsnake: or :ultsimon: as a Konami rep?
I love both, so it makes it a bit difficult to choose, but push come to shove, I'd pick :ultsimon: as the Konami rep. I say this with :ultsnake: being one of my Brawl mains, but :ultsimon:'s moveset looks a bit more up my alley, plus my newfound appreciation for Castlevania (I do love platformers + Metroidvanias) helps tip my decision in his favor. MGS is a great series and quite unique, so it is very much like me having to choose my favorite child.

I am really happy we have both in the game though, and I look forward to putting in a lot of time with them in Ultimate.
