Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

KOS-MOS as the Namco Rep would make sense, considering she's the next closest thing to a mascot that Namco has after Pac-Man. No Tekken or Tales of, both massive series in their own rights, would confuse me though.

Also all of you ignored my previous question: Who is the singer of Lifelight?
It's not Rena Strober
It's not Amalee
It's not Christina Vee
It's not Utada Hikaru
SO THEN WHO IS IT?
I don't know how KOS-MOS is close to a mascot, I've never heard of the character before the Grinch speculation.

Still has better writing and characters than the enterity of the 3DS Fire Emblem era :p.
I trash talk it's character design all the time, because the sudden shift to well endowed anime chicks is hilarious.
But honestly I don't know enough about the game to tell if it's good or bad.

I'm just gonna say it. Some of ya'll have trash taste in JRPGs (Except you Idon Idon . You're cool). Keep hating on XC2, I'll be here, not giving a damn :p.
I like XC2, for what it's worth. I actually preferred playing it more than I did XC1 gameplay-wise at least. My main gripe with it is how you gathered the Rare Blades, but otherwise, it's a solid RPG in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I tried playing XC2 but didn't like it, so I gave up on it after a few days :( I don't like the gameplay
If you don’t mind me asking, how far along did you get? If it was only a few days It couldn’t have been too far.

I’d try and give it another go. Things start off slow but once you get far enough to where the whole battle system opens up and you have the right arts to topple launch and smash, as well as getting the elements system down, things get more fun.

Also unlocking new blades and filling their charts up gets addicting. Least imo.

I personally love xc2, i did have to take a bit of a break bc after nearly 250 hours you sometimes need a break.

It was only about 25 hours in, but I didn't like the auto attacking and I didn't really like the characters either, nor the art style

I can tell you right now that the game is, undoubtedly, good, and in fact, probably has better gameplay than XC1 and XCX

However, I can also undoubtedly tell you that I personally am not a huge fan, and that it most certainly is not a plot that jives well with everyone.

What did you hate in XC2?
Just how anime it was. The heavy amount of fanservice and waifu culture.
Granted I only saw the cover and a few screenshots, do idek

also the gameplay, characters, plot, technical performance, rex, and really everything but the music, but in this case how anime it is. i also liked the star ocean game i played.

Oh if you don't like the anime, fan service, and waifus, then you'd hate Dungeon Travelers 2, because that game is nothing but fan service (almost on an illegal level)

I absolutely love Xenoblade Chronicles. Great story, amazing characters, fun gameplay, relatively good sidequests and collectables, I could go on. Can be a bit much at times, but isn't too difficult to understand once you get into it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2? I just...can't get into it. The story is similar to the subpar anime shows that I watched in middle school, complete with the same old hamfisted anime tropes and fanservice. The characters are similarly based off of tropes and lack a certain depth that the Xenoblade Chronicles crew had. Rex is literally just a harem anime protagonist. Prove me wrong. The gameplay is overly complex (as if you could make Xenoblade's combat more complex), and the Gacha elements in blade summoning are just annoying. Also Rex's voice performance is just bad. Like:

Compared to the mastery of the original Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is too different.

In fact, the only legitimate complaint I have about XC2 that doesn't boil down to personal taste is...
It wastes so much of my time.

Like holy **** I could write a dissertation on how much I wish I could just mash a turbo button to get through some things faster.
Ultimately, it's at most an added 30 minutes to a 60 hour JRPG, but boy are those moments not thrilling.

If you can take that, and like what XC2 offers, I guarantee there's a lot of game for you to love.

XC2 definitely has the most enjoyable gameplay for me once you actually unlock all the features of combat. It's hard for me to blame people giving up on it because it takes forever to really feel right. The first battle with Rex on his own is absolutely abysmal with the slowest autoattacks ever and just trading back and forth. Until you get 3+ drivers with 3+ Blades each it really doesn't flourish in the gameplay imo

For DLC, how would people feel about KOS-MOS? It feels odd that in a game developed by Bandai-Namco, that there is only one Bandai-Namco rep. KOS-MOS is thrown into almost every Bandai-Namco crossover where she makes sense, and it's not like she wouldn't have a potentially unique moveset. Thoughts?
I'm super down for KOS-MOS over Elma, even though I do like Elma.

Best part is, since development on DLC hasn't started, she could have the badass XC2 design and some XC2 mechanics integrated into her moveset.

Also once I had the ability to remove Rex from my party you can bet I did, I know he has his fans but this is not one. I will never defend a good number of XC2's design or story choices, especially in comparison to XC1 which is probably my favorite game of all games?
I forgot to put positives in this. XC2 has big highs and deep lows for me. Morag and Zeke are some of my favorite characters in the franchise, and there are some really good designed blades. The locations in XC2 are incredible (after Argentum which I did not like), and the entirety of Torna is really great, characters and story and all imo. But it certainly has issues still

I’d really try and give it another go, that’s barely scratching the surface. Again, battles get more fun later on, especially with mythra’s abilities that refreah arts after every critical hit. Auto-attacks won’t even be much of thing when you’re constantly blade switching

Oh yeah. The combat options seem to never stop once you get into the game. I actually got addicted to just randomly fighting once I understood how the Elemental Breaks and continuing chains of combos worked.

There is admittedly a lot of unnecessary filler. Like I liked the game a lot, then I finally stopped doing all the side-quests, since the rewards weren't really that great, and it felt like the side-quests never ends...so once I realized there didn't seem to be a con to, ya know, just knot doing them, and that the main quest itself was serviceable for up to 100 hours all on its own, the game got even better for me.

If KOS-MOS did drop as a DLC newcomer for Smash Ultimate, it'd be amazing.

She is the only character I see myself supporting for the most at this point. And while I can't speak in comparison between her and other characters from the Xenoblade games, Xenosaga trilogy is easily one of my most favorite JRPG series.

She'd definitely be an instant pick up to me.
