I found XC2 fun to play, and while yes it's "anime", the characters were compelling enough for you to stay and by the end you love it.
Although, Torna the Golden Country fixes a lot of the complaints for XC2 when it comes to gameplay, "anime", etc. I'd reccomend it for anyone who wants Xenoblade on the Switch but don't want to deal with fanservice, gacha, Rex's voice acting, etc. since it can be played as a standalone title.
