...I think the rumored DLC characters sound cool. DQ is huge, and has plenty of history with Nintendo, and Steve would stand out as a unique choice with lots of potential for a cool move set.

I think these are wonderful choices, but eh, to each their own I suppose.

In the "World of Light" trailer, the Beams of Light , when hiting the characters, make the same noises that the original Smash Bros 64 did!

That is quite suspicious. So that is two characters to be on the lookout for in Ultimate in regards to Spirits.

Everyone gets their opinion, of course, but it's extremely obvious that late-stage DLC for Smash 4 was extremely well received. They're doing just fine.

Steve might be a ******** as **** pick, but fact of the matter is that he is a well known video game character for the current generation. You people really going to tell me that a character that likely defined, and is still defining, the childhoods of most our younger players won't be well received?

Bayonetta. Yes, Ryu and Cloud are personal preferences, but Bayonetta.

Steve isn't a character, it's a placeholder. Then going with a mobile game charcter...ugh.

So we've all seen what certain characters would do in their last moments before being devoured in the light and it's a really great show of personality.

So I've been thinking:
If your most wanted character was in that scene, what would they do in their last moments when put in that situation, and how would they inevitably bite the dust?

Ashley would fly away on her broom, looking slightly scared but still generally bored. The light would get Red first, causing her to fall. Then it'd get her.

Thoughts on these?

Seems pretty realistic imo, has a highly requested Nintendo character and a brand new IP to boot not to mention meshing some requested third parties.
The only point of contention I think would probably be Doom Slayer, as I feel Sakurai would probably go with the Dovakhiin as a Bethesda character.
After all, I think Skyrim is the more popular game out in Japan and falls in line with the "No realistic weapons rule."

Also, this is a bit tangential and I want to bring this up:
I honestly doubt we're getting an entire season pass without Nintendo characters.
Because it seems to me that at least this pass, is going to contain characters that didn't quite make the cut for base roster finalization. So, I seriously doubt we'll get all third parties.
It could happen, but I don't think it's likely.

The great thing about DLC is if you're truly against a fighter, there's nothing forcing you to have them as part of your game.

I love it, it gives you a choice. I'd gladly choose that option for the main roster whereby you could curate it individually.

I just saw the new Vergeben leak. I really hope it's wrong. Seriously. A third party mobile game character. Frickin Steve. And if the square character is dragon quest it's probably just slime since apparently we're getting random mooks in smash now. I never thought it was possible, but I may end up passing on the dlc this time if he's right. Garbage character after garbage character for me.

Maybe that's why Sakurai said don't buy the season pass until you're sure you want to. He was trying to warn us...

Vergeben isn't leaking Steve or the Granblue character, that's another leaker Verg is vouching for because they have a good record

He says he's pretty confident the Minecraft content he heard about is Steve DLC by comparing it to this other leaker's info

Incineroar would have immediately ditched the heel persona and try to protect one of the littler Pokemon, like Pichu, in hopes to protect them from being Thanos'd.

I have to ask again, as there’s a lot of misinformation going around and people are angry as a result: what is wrong with the Online in this game? We have lobbies. Barring bad peer to peer connections this is literally all you could ask for compared to the earlier games.

I think a lot of the complaints come from people that just don't understand how it works.

We have lobbies that will match you to the closest possible ruleset. This is amazing for two reasons:

1. Whatever you feel like playing, there will no doubt be someone with the exact (if not close to exact) rules you are using.

2. WE ARE NOT STUCK TO JUST 2 STOCKS TIMED IN ONLINE FOR SERIOUS MATCHES. This is HUGE. Should we feel that the games are quick enough for 3 stocks or 4 we can easily change that for online.

We even have a sorta ELO system in the form of Global Smash Power. It isn't perfect, and far from ideal, but it seems like it would do a decent enough job at matching people up according to skill level.

The Elite Smash mode or whatever is also a good thing, as they will be balancing the game according to results from only the top tier of players. This ensures the problem characters actually get looked at properly.

The only concern is connections, as you mentioned.

Rayman does a running start, helicopters away and goes "weee!" out of fun, then gets caught vertically in the light, as all his limbs vanish, one by one until only his head his left, and that vanishes too. He freaks out the entire time this happens to him.

This thread certainly seems in high spirits right now regarding DLC rumors.

I bet things will be just as civil and calm as they were with Piranha Plant if Steve gets revealed.

As someone who wants him more than Banjo, I will probably lay low if it does indeed happen...

Just tested. Should be relatively fine so long as you don't specify fire emblem when searching Camilla. Lucina was pretty safe.

If you don't feel confident in the DLC pass, DON'T BUY IT.


DLC is optional, and when even Sakurai himself is more or less saying "I'm not forcing you to buy it", that should more or less put an end to it. Hell, I know people who never even bothered still with the last 3 for Smash 4.
