Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Oh no she got one thing wrong out of the bazillion other things she got right.
Totally unreliable.

/s

Of all the things to get wrong, she got the one that hurts the most tho. It's harder to remember the things she got right.

Cream & Cheese are an underrated duo IMO; I liked her in the Sonic Advance games, especially Advance 2.
I'm not sure if they would fit Smash, and there are other Sonic characters that would obviously get the priority over her, but I wouldn't mind her as a fighter really.
Anyway I'd prefer to have her back in the Sonic series with a unique redesigned gameplay based on the chao, rather than in Smash; recently it seems that Sega is neglecting this character quite a bit and they are even using Big the Cat more than her.

Too bad that she's kinda hated in the Sonic community too; it hurts me that another character of my adolescence is constantly bashed and neglected and it seems to be doomed to become a forgotten character as the time goes.
I see some similarities with another certain character who has been forgotten for 18 years... and who now returned as a duo with "&" in the name; I hope Cream will make a return as well one day (maybe in a game with a better use of the characters than what they are doing in the modern games where everyone is useless except Sonic himself); I know she is in some spin-offs, but I mean having a decent role in a main game (the last time was Sonic Rush in 2005). And by the way, Chao are awesome! (except Omochao -.-)
I remeber abusing creams broken air attack in battle. it was great.

Honestly wish sega developed more on Blaze and Cream's friendship than throwing it all away and making silver a thing.
As per usual with sonic team they like to throw away good ideas

The Nintendo-is-silencing-the-press narrative is silly enough to warrant comment.

Making legal or press access threats would soft-confirm the leak and this would be very likely to get out.

While the most likely outcome is that Nintendo does nothing, it's still more plausible that Nintendo would discretely say "Hey, heads up, this is a problematic fake, and we'd suggest not reporting on it for your credibility." than arrange a giant conspiracy of mid-tier press outlets.

I do have a legitimate problem with people claiming the name being poorly blocked is fishy.

If the idea was to incriminate Eric, why cover it at all?

If the intent was to point to Eric as a means of leading people down this long, convoluted rabbit hole, still, why bother at all with blocking it?

In either of these two scenarios, attempting to block it makes no sense. The only sensible scenario to me is that whoever leaked this was legit trying to cover the name and left it at 'good enough' not realizing it could still be deciphered. I constantly see similarly poor name smears in Facebook post jpgs that are obviously attempting to cover names for the sake of those involved, but doing a poor job.
If this is fake, it's to make people think they wanted it covered. The story they want to convey is that a friend of Eric's stumbled upon this and poorly inked out his name to try to protect Eric.

Part of me hopes this is some strange marketing stunt by his company.

It would be the most fitting end.
"A local printing company was brought up in flames overnight by an aggressive group of people who identify themselves as "Smash fans". When we tried to interview them, they took our microphone and yelled, "GENO CAN STILL GET IN SMASH!! IT'S NOT OVER!!"

I'm expecting good reviews that bandwagon off of each other like with BotW and also Odyssey, to a lesser degree.

This is just my controversial opinion on those chains of events though. If the game has a Story Mode, this is definitely already on equal footing as Brawl for virtue of likely having glorious cutscenes again.
I have a feeling that the Simon trailer, K. Rool trailer and Ridley trailer are all cutscenes from Spirits.

One of the bigger pitfalls for me is character choice and the intent of not getting any clearer pictures. It’s just weird that we got an almost unrecognizable pic from it tbh...
They weren't pictures to begin with.... it was a video that was screenshotted multiple times.

Crash Bandicoot: 35%, Activision is on the war path to making Crash a household name again and Smash is an easy path to that, plus he has quite the history and iconography behind him. While he does have a fair bit of momentum in the west, I'm not sure if there's really any demand in Japan, otherwise he would be higher
Steve: 25%, while he is quite the icon and Microsoft may already have Banjo in the game, he has a semi-significant hatedom behind him, so I don't know if he'll be prioritized over characters that are requested.
Ryu Hayabusa: 20%, he is about as big as Simon and Mega Man, but there's not as much request to have him in the game. I'm also not sure if the legal dealings with Koei Techmo would justify it.
Elma: 5%, I think the focus is fully on Xenoblade 2 at this point. Perhaps a hypothetical Switch port could get some focus on back on the Xenoblade X cast, but it's going to take a lot to get out of 2's shadow.
Octoling: 60%, this feels so easy and obvious to do. Octolings are popular and more echoes are never a bad thing. The only thing I'm concerned about is how to monetize an echo, as $4.99 for what is essentially a glorified skin is a little ridiculous and would not go over well. Perhaps as a bundle with a full character?
Gen 8 'mon: 10%, Gen 8's not coming out until late 2019, so any Gen 8 Pokemon will only be eligible towards the end of the DLC cycle (if its still even going then). I honestly think we're much more likely to get a Gen 7 Pokemon in DLC.
Bandana Waddle Dee: 90%, he's the most likely DLC fighter in my opinion. Assuming Grinch is real, then he's the last character who did really well in the ballot to not be in the game. This essentially puts him into a league of his own. Provided he doesn't have a role in the role game (which even then may not be the death sentence it was in Smash 4), I fully expect him to be the first DLC character and would be shocked if he is not in the DLC
A pretty good analysis and wouldn’t actually mind these as DLC characters, since I’d be pretty open to Elma, Bandana Waddle Dee is one of my wants, and Ryu Hayabusa would be perfect since he’s on the same retro scale as Simon.

Sounds exactly like something a mod would say if they themselves were silenced by Nintendo... hmmm

Hmm... The SpawnCast is thinking that Chorus Kids seems a bit weird to be in the leak...
Now I'm getting scared...

That sounds super petty.

And I'm sure that's beneath Gamexplain, at the very least.
I'd hope there's good reason behind their strange behaviour but trying to figure this all out makes my head hurt.

Especially when I try to simulate a universe where it's real and a universe where it's fake at the same time.

No.

It doesn't matter that they deny it. If you assume it's real, they still don't confirm it, because then they're breaking trust of a customer, and potentially setting themselves up for a lawsuit. If it's fake they ignore it or deny it. If it's real they ignore it or deny it. It does not matter what they say.
My point is that the faker shouldn't know if the company would or would not completely squash the validity of the leak. Everything else from the mural itself, the work materials, and even the leak going from Snapchat to Discord to 4chan can understandably be faked by the fraud with a couple of accomplices. The actions of Eric and his company and what work they're involved however in can't be 100% anticipated and controlled by the faker so it doesn't make sense why a faker would assume involving them in the fake leak wouldn't be a gigantic risk to the credibility of the leak to say nothing of potential legal ramifications. You can't just assume the company wouldn't vehemently deny any involvement if they have nothing to do with Smash since a different company involved in this very fiasco did just that.

So what are our chances of getting a direct next week? I'd say about 50/50 between next week and the week after.

Being one of the only characters that were actually going to be in a game, but cut (likely due to performance issue), I'd say they're the least weird honestly.

However you'd also have to wonder if a man in his 50's who doesn't take video games that seriously would understand the significance of that mural to the point they'd bother taking a video of it and snapping it out.

Moreover, you'd have to ask yourself what 50+ year old is using snapchat, let alone with memey stickers and language worthy of a teenager.
Pshhhh, plenty of old people like to use hip social media to try and feel young can cool. I mean, just look at US old timers who still hang around here for some reason.

In all seriousness, it's not too far-fetched that a 50yo would use Snapchat. And Smilies are about as normie-tier as you can get. Personally, I'm of the opinion he wasn't trying to leak it, and instead leaked it on accident. The "**** Nintendo" and "lol" could have had a different context.

Last direct was announced late Sunday with a Wednesday direct.
With Nintendo Live Tokyo ending on the 4th, it would be rather interesting if they announced a direct during that event in the same way.
It would line up with a direct that week like some people are wanting to say. Not exactly the 8th, though like the commonly predicted date is. The 7th.

Though I'm expecting more interesting things on the 3rd, anyway.

I mean, to be fair, they were just saying that they have a hard time seeing them fighting...
I think they just don't play RH too much lol

Also, they just said that it's missing Incineroar

Seriously though, is anyone else just going to watch the Nintendo Live event for the players? I have many reasons to...

I'm familiar with many of the players there, so don't interpret my statement in any other way.

Still, wouldn’t the video quality be better than that? And why not get photos of it close up?
Not everyone has the top of the line camera phone. And maybe they didn't get photos of it close up because they weren't intending to show it.
