Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Eh, idk. MY most wanted is nowhere to be seen and I'm pretty relaxed :yoshi:
Good for you. I can't. I've had a crap year and Capcom promising this would be a big year for Ace Attorney fans, not to mention, Sakurai meeting with Takumi hasn't helped.

I really could use the good news of Phoenix Wright being a fighter.

Blocking it makes it look like there's something to hide, it makes it look like he took these pictures.
Which again, achieves nothing. The legitimate same effect is gained by leaving it uncensored, especially considering the legal implications regardless. Whether it were semi-covered or totally uncovered, people would be led down the rabbit hole regardless.

So I'm curious, what do you guys think the is gonna be the average score that critics will give Smash Ultimate?
I estimate in the neighborhood of 9.3-9.5/10, seems fair enough, I’m also willing to bet IGN will give a ridiculous quote on it, but I don’t know if they’ll be able to top their Pokémon ORAS quote “Too much water.”

I had this same thought.

In order for the leak to be fake, it would mean this guy was using ACP property/equipment to do it. Which while not impossible, it feels unlikely that they would let an employee waste company time and resources on some random personal pet project.
But what if it was used without permission, interesting to think about

I apologize if this has been brought to attention already (as this thread is just too fast to keep up with now) but I saw this interesting post in a comment chain on /v/.
https://boards.fireden.net/v/thread/436661559/#436662751
Make of it what you will of course.
While I definitely suspect this, and definitely want it to be the case for the banner leak, I think this specific post is fake. It reads as if he got triggered by the insiders' left-leaning stances and made up a story to make his fantasies about Trump seem more real.

I’m crossing my fingers that Mircosoft/Rare request Sakurai to give them their regular voices ala Wii Fit team did theirs.

As much as I hate Bowser and the Kong’s current animal sounds and prefer their canon voices, they do make some sense.
They didn’t always have human voices and have had roars/growls/ooks in various games such as SM64, Mario Kart, DKC etc.

K.Rool probably had to be given the same treatment since he’s the villain and has to be threatening, his goofy voice from Sluggers probably would’ve clashed with his enemies.

It goes against Banjo’s character though, he’s not supposed to bad*** like Bowser & DK or an ordinary animal wearing clothes like Diddy.
He’s always been a anthromoprhic goofball like Yoshi & Sonic.

I'm just so surprised Shantae still hasn't come up in any of this whole leak fiasco recently.
I think the mood is "oh well, let's hope for DLC" in that sector. With a side order of "What's in that assist trophy...?"

No.

It doesn't matter that they deny it. If you assume it's real, they still don't confirm it, because then they're breaking trust of a customer, and potentially setting themselves up for a lawsuit. If it's fake they ignore it or deny it. If it's real they ignore it or deny it. It does not matter what they say.
Hypothetically if it was fake and some guy just chose eric to pin the leak on wouldnt the company want to post that it was fake and that they werent working with smash to protect both themselves and their employee. the longer they stay quiet the better it looks

I really think you guys are putting too much stock into that brush.

His name isn't entirely visible unless you look closely; it really seems like the kind of thing that the average person would do.

Even after looking closely, you have to keep looking.

Rayman 30% He isn't too big in Japan, I think that hurts his chances...
Rex 80% He seems obvious
Sora 50% It could go either way, rights can be an issue, that being said, he's highly requested...
Springman 90% He seems almost obvious
Tails 40% If Shadow is getting as Sonic's Echo. I doubt we're getting another Sonic Rep

Anyways, Rate these DLC Character's chances and explain why:
-Crash Bandicoot
-Steve
-Ryu Hayabusa
-Elma
-Octoling
-Gen 8 Pokemon
-Bandana Waddle Dee
Crash Bandicoot: 35%, Activision is on the war path to making Crash a household name again and Smash is an easy path to that, plus he has quite the history and iconography behind him. While he does have a fair bit of momentum in the west, I'm not sure if there's really any demand in Japan, otherwise he would be higher
Steve: 25%, while he is quite the icon and Microsoft may already have Banjo in the game, he has a semi-significant hatedom behind him, so I don't know if he'll be prioritized over characters that are requested.
Ryu Hayabusa: 20%, he is about as big as Simon and Mega Man, but there's not as much request to have him in the game. I'm also not sure if the legal dealings with Koei Techmo would justify it.
Elma: 5%, I think the focus is fully on Xenoblade 2 at this point. Perhaps a hypothetical Switch port could get some focus on back on the Xenoblade X cast, but it's going to take a lot to get out of 2's shadow.
Octoling: 60%, this feels so easy and obvious to do. Octolings are popular and more echoes are never a bad thing. The only thing I'm concerned about is how to monetize an echo, as $4.99 for what is essentially a glorified skin is a little ridiculous and would not go over well. Perhaps as a bundle with a full character?
Gen 8 'mon: 10%, Gen 8's not coming out until late 2019, so any Gen 8 Pokemon will only be eligible towards the end of the DLC cycle (if its still even going then). I honestly think we're much more likely to get a Gen 7 Pokemon in DLC.
Bandana Waddle Dee: 90%, he's the most likely DLC fighter in my opinion. Assuming Grinch is real, then he's the last character who did really well in the ballot to not be in the game. This essentially puts him into a league of his own. Provided he doesn't have a role in the role game (which even then may not be the death sentence it was in Smash 4), I fully expect him to be the first DLC character and would be shocked if he is not in the DLC

It's hard to make out the second one, but it was taken 1 minute after the video was sent.
This makes it hard to believe his friends saved this picture, to me.
11 seconds? I imagine the other one took 1 minute because of the snapchat filter LOL applied to it.

Sorry I know I sound like a hypocrite because this is also grasping, but I never saw this until now.
I dont understand what you find so hard to believe about screenshotting something that was sent 11 seconds ago

Geno is also rather hard to color in, but that's because his entire body is one color and I can barely make out his cape.

I've seen some dumb claims about the "renders" (they're all new, you can't debunk it based off of this), but not this.
I didn't think anyone really took it that seriously when it came up but apparently it must have stuck somewhere for someone to make this counter claim.

The original DKC trilogy used animal noises. Bowser sounded like an animal in the n64 era.

Alright, so I've actually had this thought for a REALLY long time that I wanna share.

I honestly want Cream & Cheese in Smash. Can you imagine how cool that'd be? Like, I know it probably wouldn't happen, but the thought of it is so intriguing and I can't help but sorta want it now. I think they would work pretty similar to the likes of Rosaluma, obviously as their own with multiple jumps, Cheese obviously being a lot different from Luma, etc.
Cream & Cheese are an underrated duo IMO; I liked her in the Sonic Advance games, especially Advance 2.
I'm not sure if they would fit Smash, and there are other Sonic characters that would obviously get the priority over her, but I wouldn't mind her as a fighter really.
Anyway I'd prefer to have her back in the Sonic series with a unique redesigned gameplay based on the chao, rather than in Smash; recently it seems that Sega is neglecting this character quite a bit and they are even using Big the Cat more than her.

Too bad that she's kinda hated in the Sonic community too; it hurts me that another character of my adolescence is constantly bashed and neglected and it seems to be doomed to become a forgotten character as the time goes.
I see some similarities with another certain character who has been forgotten for 18 years... and who now returned as a duo with "&" in the name; I hope Cream will make a return as well one day (maybe in a game with a better use of the characters than what they are doing in the modern games where everyone is useless except Sonic himself); I know she is in some spin-offs, but I mean having a decent role in a main game (the last time was Sonic Rush in 2005). And by the way, Chao are awesome! (except Omochao -.-)

One of the bigger pitfalls for me is character choice and the intent of not getting any clearer pictures. It’s just weird that we got an almost unrecognizable pic from it tbh...

I'm expecting good reviews that bandwagon off of each other like with BotW and also Odyssey, to a lesser degree.

This is just my controversial opinion on those chains of events though. If the game has a Story Mode, this is definitely already on equal footing as Brawl for virtue of likely having glorious cutscenes again.

You're forgetting that Nintendo gave Activision and Toys for Bob rights to use Bowser and Donkey Kong in Skylanders, the same devs as Crash N. Sane Trilogy. So there is an established relationship with might increase his chances. Crash was also very huge in Japan, especially for a western franchise https://youtu.be/6CzX2JUqDuI

For no reason in particular, I'm treating the leak banner as a coloring book and I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out what Ken is supposed to be doing. At first glance to me, it kinda looks like he should be going to a chiropractor, but maybe I'm thinking about it wrong.

I think Ken looks weird in the leak because we try to see it as his arm is super long. But in reality, what I see is like a vertical streak of yellowy fire following his punch upwards.
