Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

It kinda sucks that my guy Incineroar is getting more hate than usual because he's the focus of all these leaks and speculation.
If he gets in though it's all worth it.
I mean I've always hated Incineroar. Smash didn't really make it better or worse for me.
But if gets in, I'll be happy for you and the other Incineroar fans.

No Edea Lee? Mrgrgr...

i need to beat the first one...im at the part where everything repeats but each chapter there's more optional bosses
Edea Lee would be my ideal Bravely rep, I love her so much.

She and Tressa are actually featured a lot together in both fan art and official art, and they do have at least one trait in common...

I really, REALLY wish we could get some Octopath representation, even if only as DLC. Only issue is that picking a fighter would be hard as there's no clear cut protagonist and that's sort of the point. My personal pick will always be H'aanit though, as she would have a moveset that doesn't really overlap with any other current fighter in any way with her proficiency in axes and bows, and her beast summoning.
Biased pick would be Therion because he's my fav or Olberic because Patrick Seitz.
Alternatively, we can have Therion as a Sheik Echo, Olberic as an Ike Echo, and Cyrus as a Robin Echo. Who's up for that?
I'd pick Tressa if I had my choice, though it would honestly be hard to have just one since all eight characters are important enough if Octopath had representation in Smash. An Assist Trophy featuring all eight characters would be really cool though.

Honestly, the music by itself is all I would need. Battle at Journey's End would be amazing to battle to in Ultimate!
Battle at Journey's End is by far my favorite OT song and I'd love to see it in Smash.

Kens trailer could be Ryu fighting little mac or some other fighter in a field. Hes about to be bodied when a hadouken knocks mac away. Then ken from the shadows SRKs him. He turns to Ryu helps him up (like his cutscene in alpha) the two fist bump and are covered in the shadows of all the other fighters. Ken goes "just like old times" and the two go into battle leading into his reveal trailer move montage

Literally all that matters to me.

If Ken gets a trailer, that damn fist bump better be in it.

I'm wondering if the next Direct will be structured similarly to the last one or not honestly. Like opening and closing with character reveals, dropping Echos together, talking about various modes, etc.

Speaking of godlike music from Octopath
This is one of the standard boss themes. You'll be hearing this 50% of the time you fight a boss
decisive battle 1 is also good but not THIS good

Well... Incineroar was getting a lot of hate since his very existence for the fact he resembles the trend of the Fire/Fighting Starter that was just stopped in the last generation by Delphox (despite in the end don't actually be a Fighting Type... that was a nice surprise xD)
I don't like that the generic wrestler cat design was chosen over the saber-toothed cat design which would had been much better IMO.

It would had been so cool if we had a saber-toothed cat based character in the roster and without a doubt one of my mains (Saber-toothed cats are one of my favorite prehistoric animals and favorite Ice Age animal). I don't know what the creators of Pokemon were thinking...

In Digimon World Data Squad (arguably a mediocre spinoff rpg) you search for the Seven Demon Lords, Digimon representing each sin, so the villain cant get their code to bring Lucemon back to life.
Also Protag can just punch Digimon when he needs to and thats ****ing rad
You also search for the Seven Great Demon Lords* in a post-game sidequest in Digimon: Cyber Sleuth (arguably a game more fitting for the SMT comparison ). *(called the "Seven Deadly Digimon" in what is probably a case of trying to make a Woolseyism, whether the attempt worked or not is up to opinion)

Daimon Masaru (Marcus Damon for the non-purists) punches Digimon to provide energy so his Agumon can evolve. It makes no sense and it's awesome.
I fail to see the issue with this. :p
The cases of Goddess Revival Syndrome are becoming an epidemic.

Not gonna lie-- and I know fellow classic FE fans will beat me up for this-- remaking the older FE games in Awakening's format would do wonders for introducing more fans to the pre-3DS FE stories. Right now, I'd wager that well over 50% of the people who played Awakening have never touched a FE game that came before it.
What do you mean Awakening's format, like having 6 + 7 as 2nd and 1st generations in one game? I think they are already doing the best they could with remakes by keeping SOV's gameplay as close as possible to Gaiden while spicing it up with experimental things like combat arts and now series-staple supports, plus a modern coat of paint (NES games just look nasty.)

I can understand introducing things like pair-up to games without it, reclassing for replayability, casual mode, more supports etc. but having every remake fit into an Awakening cookie cutter just doesn't seem logical for most games' story and gameplay structures. The biggest things to get people to play these games are accessibility and marketing. Before Awakening more than half of the franchise was literally Japan-exclusive and the other half was marketed like ****. Who's gonna play an unknown IP that they have no nostalgia for that's in a niche genre? I think the groundwork they have laid with Heroes will do just fine to keep getting people interested in the older titles as they are remade and released on Virtual Console.

I really should get around to buying Octopath, probably next year.
The little game money I have is reserved for Let's Go Meltan and Smash Ultimate.

Buyyyyyyyy it...

Octopath’s a great JRPG. Hearing the hype surrounding made it sound like it was a must have for Switch, and it was. With eight protagonists, you’re bound to love at least one of them!

Plus some of the battle lines are great.

No, you're not alone in thinking that. I like pretty much everything about :ultisabelle:'s moveset as we know it so far, but that Fishing Rod special of hers has a lot of potential I feel. I'm hoping it works like a tether grab similarly to :ultzss:'s side-special, as that is one I became accustomed to using when I played as her.

:ultisabelle: in general looks like a ton of fun.
