Nintendo and Game Freak genuinely would like to think their game is good and has plenty of content. Where they are finding that content, I have no clue. But in general, Pokemon Directs tend to be smaller, like 10-15 minutes with some additional smaller games/ports. They could certainly do it if they wanted to.

I've thought about what it would be for a hypothetical Smash reboot, and this is the roster I made:

Obviously I can't project 5-10 years into the future, so I was thinking what they would do now. And some characters would be transformational (Samus/Zero Suit, Zelda/Sheik) others would have echoes (Marth/Lucina, Peach/Daisy) to make it bigger. Though, I still had trouble with sticking to 30, so I went to 40. Pokemon Trainer would have been Alolan Trainer (or whatever future Gen it is). And I feel like this is way more third parties than would be in a hypothetical roster, but I wanted to give each third party one character. Also I could see one or two of the retro characters being replaced by a WTF character, but can't think of any good ones (which is why I'm not a game designer).

This looks good, but it makes me really upset when people go for Meta Knight over Dedede. That ain’t it, sis!

Vergeben said Incineroar quite a while back.

Outside of that, there hasn't been any creditable or notable leak that has added to that claim.

Well, tbf, the guy who posted the photo didn’t really specify that they’re in the base roster. I think at most, the majority of the characters shown will be DLC. Like, I really want Doom Slayer in Smash, but I know that if he is in the base roster, he’d probably shoot up the rating. That’s why DLC is the best bet for Doom Slayer.

Oh no, that part was with certainty, the only part he have no information is the character, or which type of leak it is, whenever it's Text/Picture etc.

He obviously try to play it low, since he was the one who leaked Cloud, and he's using Vergeben's Square-Claim as truth, it's easy to guess that his source are Square-Enix sources

Let's not forget, if he's getting this from a source, then there's a chance things aren't coming in for us that clearly. It's slim, but the chances are there.

I would agree with you, except Sakurai specifically described his disappointment with how the ESRB leak ruined the final surprises of the roster before he could reveal them.

I'm sure Nintendo would keep that in mind with how much respect they have for the guy.

Not to mention, didn't Sakurai explicitly state they're very much going overkill over protecting themselves from major leaks happening?
It seems previous leaks are playing a major factor in their strategy this time around.
