What I'm getting at is that the guy that supposedly leaked Cloud before his reveal is saying there's a real leak out somewhere. Can somebody explain what's going on?

-That Karate Joe leak where someone posted photos of the memories post from the Blog, with detailed pictures of the box of the game and the manual (and the stickers that came with it). This is the only leak that was credible and was never debunked aside of being ignored after Isabelle was announced instead of him.

Didn't that leak list him as #68 though? (at least, I think)

Well, I don't know if this is true or what, I don't know anything about this really, I just read about it 2 minutes ago... but those are my guesses:

-The Japanese Playlist leak (the fact that it's updated 10 days before a Direct, and people noticed it; maybe Nintendo delayed the Direct because it was "leaked" this way).

-That Karate Joe leak where someone posted photos of the memories post from the Blog, with detailed pictures of the box of the game and the manual (and the stickers that came with it). This is the only leak that was credible and was never debunked aside of being ignored after Isabelle was announced instead of him.

I don't know what else could be.

Or maybe it's just the Spirit Mode; the name of the mode was found by removing the blur from a censored picture and maybe they didn't expect that to happen.

Blog leaks are easy to fake, the KOS-MOS one tried something similar. Though it was hard to judge that Karate Joe one because everything was so damn tiny.

I'm also surprised the Protonmail rumor is still alive. So far Simon and Isabelle(it didn't say she was an echo) is in. The only ones left on the list are Lloyd, Heihachi, and Waddle Dee on the list. But it also said more. So I'm hoping for the Ryota & Lloyd picture or Protonmail to be the Waldo.

Yes, but it's not that hard to switch the posts in a blog before they are published... IMO it can still be real, even if it may be unlikely.

The thing that could debunk it is that Isabelle's trailer came with the announcement of a new Animal Crossing, so it was likely planned to be there and it's unlikely that it was a last minute change... but the game is announced for 2019 without an actual date so it's still possible too.

According to Tansut, it's not the Ken leak. He said he's heard things, but doesn't want to say what incase the character is wrong and he sets people on an emotional rollercoaster for nothing though he kinda already did that.

Yeah, knowing his name now I was able to search these forums to see where it originated on here. Now I can search through his history to get the actual quotes, rather than relying off of people's conflicting interpretations.

IIRC, the ESRB leak was passed around to a bunch of different people until one of them decided to spill the beans.

It's not about blog posts, though; Sakurai already has given characters specific numbers. It's doubtful he'll change them. He has a planned character per number and every character is already in the game. There's nothing to change switching aroundblog posts that aren't playable characters if the situation calls for it.

Or, to be more clear, the blog order of what characters are shown doesn't matter so much as the actual character number itself. Isabelle was always going to be 68 from the best we can understand. All new characters are supposed to be revealed in a strict order.

Little update about the 'Bar theory', Arcade Mtl just posted:

It basically says: ''The game (that will be showcased) will be revealed tomorrow. Note that streaming will not be allowed. Therefore, what happens at Arcade MTL stays at Arcade MTL''

I don't really know if this means anything, just wanted to share the info. People in the comments seem to be hoping for a Direct or a demo event.

I'm not sure but it feels like they're are going to announce a new Switch game or something... tbh idk

Yeah, I feel like I'm the only one who learned in school how to cite sources. A lot of the confusion and conflicting information could be cleared up by saying who he is ("some guy" doesn't suffice) and citing where they said it so there's one source to go to, and not multiple "he said, she said" to reference.

It appears that we indeed have a legit leak on our hands. I'm not aware of the particulars, like even which leak it is exactly, but I know it's caused some ruffled feathers recently.

This should help get us out of the cycle of strawpolls and goofy theories.

I really don't know much more than what I said. I have a hunch as to which character it is, but I'm only volunteering what I already said.

The short of it is that a leak, I'm assuming one from somewhat recently, spurred some internal discussion.

I don't know which leak it is, but I would have to assume it was image-based to catch attention. Yes, this means that I have a decent idea of which character it is, but it's ultimately total speculation on my part because, again, I don't know which specific leak it might be. I only think I have an idea because of where I heard it from and what not.

What I mentioned originally is all I concretely am sure of. That's why I'm not being any more specific, because any specificities are just educated guesses.

So why even bring it up, you fairly ask? Because I love it when we analyze leaks. I also find the strawpolls and music/blog/box theorizing to be a little dull, so I'm trying to avoid more wheel-spinning in the thread.

It's not the Ken leak. If it was I wouldn't have bothered.
We've already seen whichever leak this is, too. I just don't know which one it is.

I don't know how recent the leak they're huffed about happened. As far as I know it could've come out like a month ago and they just now found out about it. Or it came out like two days ago and they immediately spotted it. I simply don't know much more than you guys. Which is partly why I mentioned it.

Thought it would be fun to take a more critical eye at image leaks.

I only am comfortable sharing what I know versus what I think for two reasons: one; if I'm wrong about who I think is in then I'll have put people through a rollercoaster of emotions for nothing. Some will be disappointed, others elated, still others angry, etc. Two; I don't like outright leaking anything.

That's fair, especially about the second point. I didn't want people to instantly jump to conclusions but I suppose I didn't think it through terribly well. I was just excited to talk about something else in a thread I always enjoy reading.

My hope was to simply say that there is a leak out there that is actually probably legit, because I wanted to see if we can narrow it down or pick apart pics we may have dismissed too easily.

I apologize for any heightened emotions already and just ask again that ya'll take a breath and calm down.

I would assume it's one that is already out there, otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would be talking about it.

I honestly doubt it has anything to do with the bar and NoC thing, but I can't say that with any certainty.

IIRC, the ESRB leak was passed around to a bunch of different people until one of them decided to spill the beans.

The only people who know about at though are the Tansut guy, and supposedly Rapture and Warchamp. Unless if y'all wanna ping Warchamp here, we most likely aren't gonna know anything for a bit or even a while.

According to Tansut, it's not the Ken leak.

Oh I missed that detail... so it was the character number, I misread. At this point, it's way less likely... still not 100% debunked (changing the number of the character is also possible I think, but it has impact on the game since the character will be stuck with that number forever) but almost.

Anyway, yes, the blog posts are internally numbered and the Isabelle one had the same number as the supposed Karate Joe one too.

Here are all of the "Leak" that I can see, that could "Ruffle feather" internally. So, let's go!

- The Celica leak from 4chan, who got Simon, Isabelle right and said that Celica and Geno were in.
-The 'Sassy Geno" a single picture from 4chan who said "risk everything by posting this" it's a high quality Render, but we should be careful, especially with that nice Isaac render from the Isaac website leak.
- Hashimoto, co-creator of KH, deleted Tweet about saying "Yes!" to someone asking for Sora in Smash
-Dante's ingame blurry picture with the Dante Leak supposedly in the Pokemon stage? I think?
- Spawn Wave who say that there is BIG NOISE about the first Smash DLC being announced at the VGA, that LeakyPandy (as **** as they are, they could get something right) also talk about

These leaks have been getting out of hand recently, so I've gathered a list of every character leaked by the following catalogue of leakers:
Vergeben: Decidedly the most reliable of sources here, Vergeben has an amazing track record for both this game and several others. Among many other things, he announced that Snake and Ice Climbers would return, that there would be no cuts from Smash 4, and that Ridley, Isabelle, and Simon Belmont would be added. Due to his reliability, anything he claimed would be in below is in green.
LaPailleDor (1): A leaker on French forum jeuxvideo, LaPailleDor claimed that Chrom, K Rool, Richter, and Simon would be playable, as well as Dracula as a boss and stage morph being an option, all later coming true. However, the mods of the forum claim that these were faked.
LaPailleDor (2): A 4chan leaker who claims to be LaPailleDor, giving several pieces of evidence of his identity.
WhisslBlank (1): More commonly known as the NeoGAF Leaker, WhisslBlank claimed that K Rool, Simon, and Chrom would be added.
WhisslBlank (2): A second NeoGAF account claiming to be WhisslBlank, offering possibly falsified evidence. As this is likely false, and the claim that Galacta Knight will be a Meta Knight echo is already soft-deconfirmed, anything that only he claimed will be in red.
Ken Leaker: A 4chan leaker who posted an image of Ken in the debug mode. This image has been proven time and time again to be watertight.
Loz18: A GameFAQs leaker who claimed that there would be a Smash direct in August that showed a full tour of the menus, that would show three modes, and that there would be a cutscene themed around heroes vs villains (which turned out to be K Rool's reveal trailer).
Senjougahara Hitagi: A leaker who has got several things right about other games. As Vergeben has backed up Senjougahara and claimed that the two share sources, leaks from them will also be in green.
