How about favourite Smash characters?
Favorite Smash characters? Yeah, I'll bite.
No particular order, my top 11 (aka the Nostalgia Critic rules).
1.
Sonic the Hedgehog. He's been one of my VERY favorite characters PERIOD, video games or otherwise. He fits right in with my usual "Up close and personal" play style and what can I say, I love him and have since I first played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Can't see myself NOT playing as him (unless they add my other boy, Shadow, in which case, Sonic may have to share some of his screen time at my place.)
2.
Ridley. I mean, come on, he's a playable Ridley! I can't wait to take him for a spin. That move where he grinds his opponents across the floor... I'm gonna get SO much satisfaction out of that. I love what I see so far!
3.
King K. Rool. He's here, at long last. In fact, he's so exciting, my brother is actually wanting to get a Nintendo Switch just for K Rool (and the Castlevania stuff) and he hasn't played or LIKED a Nintendo product for a decade. Cheesy as it sounds, King K. Rool is bringing my family together.
4.
Shulk. I've always liked him, I've been on the Xenoblade bandwagon since day one way back on the original Wii, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Like with Sonic before, I don't see myself NOT playing as Shulk unless they add Elma or another Xenoblade character, in which case he'll have to share screentime. But no, when I played Xenoblade Chronicles on the original Wii when it was new, I remember walking across the vast landscapes and going "Shulk had BETTER be in Super Smash Bros" and I got my wish.
5.
Little Mac. A similar story to Shulk. I was quite attached to the original Wii, and I LOVED the Wii Punch-Out!! game. Much like with Xenoblade, when I played the Wii Punch-Out!! I said "Little Mac had better be in a new Smash after this" and not only did he get added, he even brought his different colored gloves and trunks from the different circuits (no helmet for losing 100 times though. Smash Mac's not a loser I guess). Much like Sonic, he's really "up close and personal", so he fits my general style really well.
6.
Daisy. What can I say? I like Daisy. I never really played as Peach because I HATE Peach as a character, but I like Daisy, so I'm willing to give this a chance. It's great to have her around! I NEVER imagined she'd be the first character shown off at E3 of all places but hey! Things happen.
7.
Ryu. I LOVE Ryu! Ever since I watched the "Uncut, Uncensored, Unleashed" release of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie when I was in high school and the entirety of Street Fighter II V, I wanted Ryu in Smash SO BAD. I fanboyed SO HARD when he jump-kicked the dude in the face THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD and didn't get any glass stuck in his bare feet or anything. I've won SEVERAL fights with him since he was added... he's my kinda guy.
8.
Dr. Mario. I like Mario, but I like DOCTOR Mario more. He has a bit more power to his attacks and he fights at a rhythm that better suits me. Plus, I really love the idea of a pugilistic doctor who throws pills at people. He's a villain in my headcanon, but even then, I can't help but love the guy.
9.
Donkey Kong. I've played Donkey Kong since the first Smash Bros, but I kinda threw him to the backburner since Brawl since I did not like his Final Smash AT ALL. His new Final Smash in Ultimate is much more my speed. The DKC games were huge in my childhood, the DKC cartoon was a regular watch when I was small (much to the dismay of the people around me), and whether it was Barrel 007, Interplanetary Visitor Dudes, taking Cranky's vacuum cleaner for a race that got so intense he crashed through the wall with the vacuum cleaner, or being dumped in the arctic by Funky Kong because K. Rool made everyone hate him, DK always seemed to somehow come through. Donkey Kong was actually quite important in my life, so I kinda repay him by playing as him... cheesy, but hey, whatever.
10.
Young Link. I've always liked Young Link more than regular Link, even way back when. For a while I was worried that Toon Link had pretty much replaced him (not that I don't like Toon Link, I quite like him and his whole Samurai Jack look). But now he's back and I can't wait to take him for a spin again.
11.
R.O.B. He's always been something of a secret weapon for me. He's a lot more versatile than he looks and even though the NES was never really my thing, R.O.B. himself is just curious enough that I kinda like him, and I love how he's been made into this "Last of His Kind" type character. And to top it off, R.O.B.'s got some MEAN attacks that always come through for me in a pinch.
