Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I find it more likely that this is just some sort of attempt to some people look in the way of the bar, in hopes of gaining more customers.

It'd be a literal case of someone fishing for attention.
Nintendo of Canada posted about it though. (Allegedly)

I'm not putting too much into this, but why are we assuming only people at this event would see the announcement? Couldn't it be a global announcement, but the viewing for that particular place being regionally based?

Even if it's true, I doubt it would be Smash-related for reasons already given above this post: "an announcement only for a specific province" and also what I'll type here.

I will say Nintendo has used mature stuff to help promote games before, though; i.e. Rareware's Conker, though that game itself is mature (and tbh I just got this off of Did You Know Gaming or something, I didn't confirm it myself, I thought they said Nintendo helped Rare).

Though I don't get why they would announce something where everyone would be drunk, much less a Smash announcement where people probably won't care, and a huge part of their audience being alienated.
My only hunch is it might have something to do with Ubisoft Montreal, so who knows. Even if it's bunk, at least the place the event's held at seems to have good arcade classics around.

This IS how I'm understanding it, which is why they can only reveal the game it's for on Wednesday, which would be when they do the global "announcement of an announcement".

I do admit it's weird for Nintendo of Canada to be doing a supposed viewing party/event at a bar, but perhaps they're doing something for their older fans here.

I know you're reading this. Vote 2B.
If there's some sort of Direct, we'll hear about it within the next two days, simple as that really.
I suppose it's possible this place managed to somehow get a bit of early info, and decided to use the opportunity to advertise themselves as a place people could watch the announcement, with the announcement not being limited to people in that bar or that region.

The "special event" is actually just a hoax set up by Nintendo of Canada and the bar owner. A bunch of Nintendo nerds will go to the bar, get drunk, forget why they're there, and go home confused. NOC and the bar split the profits 50/50.

These are the same people who thought a Smash character would be announced in an indie direct.

Hi, guy with some experience doing Facebook adversiting here.

I'm fairly certain you can region lock Facebook posts-you can at least region lock ads. Most likely it goes off of someone's stated location, so perhaps change your location to that bar and see what happens? It couldn't hurt.

I may also be full of crap. It's been a while.

I've been wondering how much from 8.8 is still left.

My biggest fear is if we go back to 3 characters a week, and only 1 item per week, they can drag this out for awhile.
Let's see if I can answer this question for you, my friend.

From the E3 Presentation....I believe we have the Healing Field for Items, and as far as Assists, we have the Burrowing Snagret and the Arcade Bunny showed up in the Treehouse battles afterwards.

From the 8/8 stuff, we have the Banana Gun, Rage Blaster, Staff, Rambling Evil Mushroom, and Killing Edge for Items, and Nikki, Chef, and Klaptrap for Assists.
Also the Ditto and Pyukumuku.

Hope that answers your question.

So, yeah, it could be a global announcement, but they're advertising the bar, I didn't think of that.

I still don't see why Smash-related stuff would be tied with a bar, but eh. It's probably something else, anyway.

I think it’s too early to say how Isaac will fare. There’s a very real possibility hype will die down if he doesn’t make it into this game and Golden Sun remains dormant. He’s a bit of a special case. His popularity, as it is now, doesn’t really compare to the peaks other characters reached, like Ridley, Sonic, Mega Man, and K. Rool.
Didn't the Geno hype die down during Smash 4's speculation season though?

The more I think about it, the more I think it’s best they save the Smash direct for next month

Assassin's Creed for Smash confirmed.
Joking aside, I don't think you'd be wrong, since Ezio was one among the huge amount of names Xander announced so he wouldn't know the full roster.

These are the same people who thought a Smash character would be announced in an indie direct.
In that case, can someone tell me how Into The Breach is considered special enough to get its own announcement at the end of that?

What I will say is that if this is a real announcement, and specifically Nintendo of Canada let it slide early, it'll be hilarious.

Considering Walmart Canada leaked multiple games pre-E3 through their listings, I'm starting to wonder if there's a leaker in all of us up here.
Wait, what did Nintendo of Canada say again?

Pac-Man was revealed behind closed doors at E3 in 2014, right? They could drop a reveal on us out of nowhere at that event. It'd make more sense than having a full on smash direct.

Would be a great 21st birthday present tomorrow to get a direct announcement for Thursday. Funny enough, if we do get a direct on Thursday, that would line up perfectly with being the second to last Thursday of October for the final direct just like the 50 Fact Extravaganza Direct for the Wii U version.
