Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

A few notes:
We tried to stick with thirty fighters, with five Echoes (green) and eight DLC (yellow).
Some of these were popular picks, some for fun, and some straight up self-indulgent.
Yu was picked because of popularity but I promise Demifiend would've been our primary choice. please don't hurt me

There are some notable omissions but again we tried to be sort of realistic. I'm not claiming that this list is in any way exhaustive. Just, yknow, a baseline.

Jack Frost
Seaman
Bowie (Shining Force)
Virtua Cops
Hatsune Miku
Zombies (House of the Dead)
Greendog
Clockwork Knight

Larcen Tyler (Eternal Champions)
Altered Beast
Football Manager
Yoyo
Sparkster
General Winter
Willemus
Burning Rangers
Keil Fluge (Panzer Dragoon)
Dyne (Skies of Arcadia)
Rouge the Bat
Metal Sonic
Aigis

How could you miss Japanese Chuck Norris?

I'm still kinda upset that Segata Sanshiro is not seeming likely for Smash

Not sure why sentiment seems to be growing that a final Direct over a standalone reveal is less likely the longer we go without any info; I'd imagine quite the opposite.

Very clunky writing and no renders or video of him or the rest of the site featuring Agumon? Yeah that's fake as **** and anyone can make that up in 2 seconds. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Also why would they use a Tamagotchi logo for a Digimon character?
Digimon started as a Tamagotchi for boys.
Other Tamagotchi games use the same logo.

Also, especially regarding why they don't use original versions of the songs in Smash, there's a lot of tracks that use samples from popular songs.

One of the tracks samples The Beach Boys' song "Deirdre" for instance. Parts of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" & "All You Need Is Love" were used as well, among others.

Fun fact for Beach Boys fans among us, the "Deirdre" sample also got used in Undertale as part of the music that plays in the True Lab.

Man, seeing that WFT pic takes me back to my lurker days when everyone here was overhyping themselves speculating who would be the next Pokémon veteran reveal because of an anniversary or something? Can’t remember.

But instead it was just this pic.

I don't know about you guys, but I can see there being no Music Post today. Instead it's a post about an Announcement happening tomorrow. But that's just a theory.
You trying to get use me killed by having no music today

I think its fake but, here what my friend showed me

To good to be true...
As mentioned before, it's actually a rather trivial matter to edit the Smash Ultimate website to display what you want. In cases like the above link, as well as the earlier "KOS-MOS music leak", the series emblems would be the only original assets required. All else is simple text and graphic edits.

Also, just as a bit of a demonstration to illustrate my point...

Hopefully the next reveal is soon. The only thing we've gotten for a while is Isabelle, and they aren't that exciting anymore. We haven't seen a single match with her (or Simon).

You're grasping for straws for a chance at a reveal tomorrow. If there was going to be one they would of certainly said by now.

If there's anything Sonic tonight/tomorrow. It'd just be a remix and maybe a little bit of an acknowledgement on the twitter pages of Sonic having been announced 11 years ago.

If we’re ranking clones, then it’s:

S: :ultluigi::ultisabelle::ultlucas:
A: :ultfalco::ultwolf::ultroy:
B: :ulttoonlink::ultganondorf:
C: :ultpichu::ultyounglink::ultdoc:
D: :ultchrom::ultdaisy::ultlucina:
E: :ultdarksamus::ultdarkpit::ultrichter:?

S-A are characters with a lot of differences, there aren’t really clones in the most basic sense when they have different playstyles, moves, and distinct variations of some moves of their counterpart.

B are characters that does have similarities to who their cloning, but have a very different playstyle and different feel.

C are characters that share a lot of similarities of who their cloning, however, they still have some key traits that set them apart. In the case of Young Link, he has similarities that stem from both Link and Toon Link.

D is where we get into echo fighters. These characters are the same as to who they’re echoing, same weight, speed, build, moveset. However, they still have cosmetic differences that set them apart. They also have small differences that execute the playstyle of their counterpart somewhat differently, and in the case of Chrom, a new move that can copy that of another fighter.

E are characters that barely have differences from their counterpart aside from cosmetic ones. Dark Pit and Dark Samus don’t have a lot of differences from who their echoing. And we don’t much about Richer, but so far Richter seems to have very minor differences as well.

This can all change of course when Ultimate comes out. I hope that they make some changes to Dark Samus and Dark Pit (and maybe Richter) to help set them apart on the same level as Lucina and Daisy do. The same can go for future echoes as well.

Aside from the general formatting and how easily fakeable it is, the most damning thing about the Agumon leak is the tamogotchi logo. A digivice would make so much more sense.

A good analysis. Personally, I'd remove Luigi and Isabelle altogether; I wouldn't even consider them semi-clones at all. Then I'd move Lucas down with Falco and Wolf and call it a day.

Roy gets put too low on these lists given how much 4's normals were changed up, but being absent's a bit of a stretch. :4pacman:

The Western side of Pop Star.
PotD was not daily info. Unless screenshots that reveal nothing new counts.

Often it was just Sakurai being weird. But we did usually learn things more than once a week.

Both pale in comparison to the DOJO. The DOJO was amazing, the most hype updates of the blog (the music) was basically the least hype updates of the DOJO. But that came at the sacrifice of no newcomer trailers (bar the first and third-parties) or Smash Directs.

We're shifting to a pattern of virality, where the focus is on a few instances of widely shareable content as opposed to a daily routine that would attract a primarily hardcore, and smaller, crowd. It's a shame for us, but it makes sense.

And fwiw, to those who think a month gap constitutes a "drought", thank goodness you either didn't have to fare in previous cycles or seemingly forgot how much dryer those were at points.
So, seeing how increasingly smaller the daily updates of info get with each entry since Brawl, how minimal can the next game's get? Just pictures and absolutely nothing else to accompany them?

They've stated that Simon also kinda echoes Richter, since Simon's moveset also has some attacks derived from Richter himself. They've even said "it's hard to tell who's echoing who". I do have a feeling though that Richter's final smash will be Hydro Storm. If Chrom got a stylized Critical Hit and Dark Pit having the staff, I assume, I expect no less for Richter to have Hydro Storm, instead of Grand Cross.

PotD definitely didn't give us new info every day, so many of its posts were either reiterating stuff we already knew or making jokes. The blog is a significant step down from it mind you, but PotD was in itself a significant step down from the Dojo, although I fully understand why (longer pre-release cycle, and the Dojo required stupid amounts of work).
I was trying my darndest to forget "Smash Run update no. 508" BUDDY

But y'all get what I mean :p Such a picky bunch!

I'd argue against that, as Grand Cross originated from Richter in the first place and one of his taunts is his Hydro Storm animation (which they combined with the rain in Distant Planet to reference the attack in his reveal trailer).

Sure but Richter himself calls "Hydro Storm" his strongest attack, and that finger point pose is also his pose on the boxart of Dracula X.

OMG the Dojo days were so amazing! :0 Back then I wasn't on Smashboards though, I remember just finding weird small forums (Actually had to leave one of them because of someone photoshopping other members commiting sexual acts and antisemitism... weird time) but man, waking up (or staying up more likely) to see a picture of basically nothing was so heart breaking.

Staying up to see a newcomer reveal though... absolute euphoria!! (I always think I was a little kid when Brawl came out, but I guess I was 19-20 lol)

Hey all, I've been gone from the thread a few days enjoying my reading week.

Any interesting stuff? Fake leaks or the like? I dropped in every once in a while but didn't seem like much.
