My personal hope that's probably too pie-in-the-sky is that Smash Ultimate becomes a games-as-a-service. Prior to E3, I was hoping for a port of 4, but just wish they had a game of every Smash character and just kept supporting it with DLC and porting it. E3 blew me away, because it's so... close to what I would want. And if Nintendo wants a new Smash after Ultimate, which may be likely, I kinda secretly hope it's a completely new franchise with the Smash name, but in a different direction, coinciding with Ultimate.

Let me dream...

That's what I was kinda hoping for 4, but of course it didn't because, y'know, the Wii U died.

If they do make a new Smash game, I don't know what they'll do. They said they're going to cut the roster down if that happens, but then what's the incentive to purchase? What is going to make me want to get the game, especially when you're cutting so many characters? This Smash game really is the Ultimate one, so why would I need to buy a different one?

This question is something they're going to need to tackle, either by changing the game-play somewhat (3d?) or changing what Smash aims to do and what it aims to represent.

Chrom's Down Special is Counter, but Lissa appears instantly and deals counterattack damage for x .8 damage and heals Chrom for x .5 the countered attack damage
Dark Samus's Forward Smash is its Shrapnel Beam

I like this cause more characters.

Same with Box theory, I could see this being true possibly. Time will tell.

I'm still gonna say Maz Koshia is the most unique character we could get playable out of Breath of the Wild.

PROS:
- Sheikah training and moves
- Can replicate moves of the Yiga Clan (Teleportation/Duplication)
- For the sake of completion, can probably use the runes that haven't been shown in Smash (Cryonis, Stasis, etc.)
- Could easily pull from the Champion's moveset since Link clearly doesn't want to use them (Protection, Fury, Gale)
- The Master Cycle is kickass

CONS:
- DLC character

There are 57 blog days left before release, which still has to cover at minimum:

• 28 returning characters
• 7 new items
• 5 new pokemon
• 8 new assist trophies
• Ken and Incineroar

That is 50 entries, with 0 additional entries for returning stages. We can expect some extra entries for returning stages, because these returning stages have had entries: (besides BF and FD)

• Lylat Cruise
• Wily Castle
• Princess Peach's Castle
• Kongo Falls
• Summit

In other words, we are pretty much on-track with the Blog timeline for the content we expect.

80 would make sense for a character count, probably including Echoes of course.

Didn't the POTD's continue normally until the release of 4?

It's improbable, but definitely not impossible.
I'd say he's the least likely "frontrunner".

Which is why I say, reboot it, make it something different as some circles would like to see, but keep Ultimate around for that every-growing Smash classic experience. It has everything. Every character, most stages returning, every mode and every option people have been begging for for nearly a decade. While I should temper my expectations, this seems like on paper to be the best Smash game possible. Plus, if Nintendo could successfully run TWO Smash franchises side-by-side for different audiences--money, money, mooooney.

It hinges on a design that can be altered pre-release, as this hinges on the blog mantaining it's schedule, for example.

Honestly, I'm sitting pretty well on the blog number theory if only because I want to actually have fun with the speculation period and I don't want to actively undersell the game's potential. As much as I love crippling nihilism and swirling negativity. Fun's nice too.

The great chasm between Let's Go quality and Smash Ultimate's quality leads me to believe Sakurai, or his successor, could pull it off in spades.

Could you let Sakurai rest FOR 5 MINUTES?

My thinking, which admittedly I didn't mention until this post, was he could also have a successor. But to me it's sort of a best of both worlds on the assumption Nintendo wants Sakurai to make a game after Ultimate. Who knows.
