Absolutely.

Nintendo went all out there and in the process set up an anti hype curve.

So many character choices.

I plan to main cloud, kirby, ridley, richter and dr mario.

like im just going to assume that the monster hunter stage we saw in the direct was going to be a full stage, it just seems weird to take a place from a game to just make it a flat thing for a boss fight and not make a full stage. Why not just make a random flat area if you are gonna do that.

Dracula's Castle was also flat during the Dracula boss fight. It's likely there is a version of the MH stage with more terrain. It's not a generic area, it's actually an area from MH so I don't see why it wouldn't be a stage.

It'll be Ultra Space. The Ultra Beasts have been suspiciously absent.

If Incineroar is the final non-echo fighter, I will be disappointed. Not only because of my natural bias towards Rowlet/Decidueye (love you, Mom!), but I have always found its design to be unpleasant. It's also a Fire-type, and Smash has so. much. fire. (I mean, Simon's holy water generates fire! C'mon...) It may end up being great fun to play as (I had wanted Krystal, and I was disappointed when we got Wolf, but I ended up loving playing as Wolf), so I'll hold out hope for that, but yeah, disappointed.

It's kind of funny, back in Brawl speculation, there was only one video game character I rejected when other fans wanted him: Geno. I thought his fans were completely irrational, ignoring his very minor status in Nintendo and gaming history, and the complicating factor of his third party status ("He counts as a Mario character, not a third party!" Um... that's not how it works...). Now, with the potential of Incineroar being the final non-echo, one of my first thoughts was, Aw, no Geno?

Ridley. Always was since he was announced and no matter who they reveal he was going to be.

Now he might not be my favorite to play (don't know yet) but I will always go back to him.

If somehow Skull Kid gets in, even as dlc, he'll be a close second.

Not really. Ultimate is celebrating the characters. All 72.

Except for the extra 3-4 the fans expect. They are not allowed on the box.

Yea this is kind of how I feel, like if we're supposed to get more why wouldn't they be on the box. And if it's just a mock up they will completely change to fit more characters, why come up with an elaborate mock up.

Vergebens claims didn't help kill this at all either.

It's one of 2 things:

1.CoroCoro either made a mistake, as making 108 stages could be easily confused from 103.

2. They leaked insider information on accident, and the game has 5 more new stages, which is huge.

I'm inclined to think it's the latter, primarily because it's an editors job to prevent stuff like this, and it's a BIG glowing red number that says 108 lol, seems super odd to miss if it was an error. However, if CoroCoro had info in it, an editor may have not known it was insider info. 2 completely different types of error imo.

But I guess we'll see. If Incineroar gets a new stage with him, as Pokemon always does, it supports this claim and destroys the 103 stage argument

Well to be honest.

Mario and Zelda did get new stages.

So i'm assuming that if there were to be 5 more stages one of them would be from Pokémon.

Since Mario, Zelda and Pokémon were always the franchises who got the most attention when it comes to stages.

To be fair, those characters are pretty much from games ”represented” as stages already, with DKC, Metroid and New Leaf stages already in. I’d be surprised if we didn’t get a Su/Mo stage, seeing as we got both 5th and 6th gen stages in 3DS/Wii U.

Mr. Game & Watch, Snake or Pac-Man. None of the characters so far look like I'll enjoy them as much as my favourite three characters.

Dk and Metroid got Villain reps.

Not even bowser got a Stage, and he is there since melee.

Also, the new stages probably are there to represent new games, not new reps.


I believe that we are going to see a new pokemon stage, even without a new pokemon rep.

CoroCoro reported 108 stages in their latest issue, though the problems with the validity of that info are numerous.

Indeed, CoroCoro said there will be 108 stages.

What this means may not necessarily be 108 stages, as PushDustIn warns that Famitsu presumably got their information from the same source as CoroCoro, but the former said there will be 103 stages--might be a misprint. It does also imply that everybody's favorite character will be in--all 450 of them.

Its called buisness and profits. Smash originally was going to be characters who originated in Smash. Sakurai then thought that putting Nintendo characters in there would make it MARKETABLE for people to buy it. Sakurai never cared for it being about Nintendo. He changed his plans and decided to pitch it as Nintendo characters so that his bosses (NINTENDO) would sign off on the idea of Smash. Why do you think he considered James Bond if he really cared about Nintendo based characters? If Goku or wherever character (Dante) is going to be in Smash despite the hardcore fan hate; its going to be to expand the audience. Cloud, Bayonetta was added NOT because of people like you nor was they intended for you to like or enjoy. They were targeted at respective fan bases who are not familiar with Nintendo (there are a lot of FF fans who criticize Nintendo a lot; I was just in a discord for reddit FFBE). Nintendo and Sakurai wants Smash to grow and correcty realized that adding more 3rd party characters is very effective at that. Someone told me the only thing on the Switch that is worth it is Bayonetta 3.

Smash is still majority Nintendo characters anyway.

There are many things hardcore fans may want or value in that are counterproductive to actual growth or profit which is why it's good that Sakurai / Nintendo ignores that base occasionally. Its not always in their best interest to listen to them. That is just life (hardcore fans tend to get shafted in today's gaming often; look at Pokemon).

Sakurai likes to include hype characters (Cloud , Ryu, Bayo, and Snake) not to mention he also added Snake in because of a friend requested it and didn't care if he was too mature or Nintendo enough. If it were up to Hardcore fans we would not have Cloud, Snake, Bayonetta, Game & Watch, Wii Fit, Shulk (literally who? When announced), Duck Hunt, R.O.B.
Isabelle would also be an echo if it was up to them too.

DLC literally saved Smash 4 for me and that's my opinion I will still keep even if they broke the game. I'm not really a Nintendo fan btw but is into fighting games. Snake and Cloud saved me.

There is no evidence that more guest characters increase sales. Smash 4 sold worse than Brawl once you adjust for double purchases.

My problem is moreso that Sakurai doesn't respect the fact that this is a Nintendo All-Star game. Look at Brawl. Sakurai limited it to only a few (no more than 2 or 3). They were hidden characters. All of the items were from Nintendo games. Same for the assist trophies. Really with the DLC, he went overboard and started adding tons of non-Nintendo characters. To put into perspective, Characters 1-59 have 4 guest characters. Characters 60-68 have 4 guest characters. To say it's gone off the deep end is an understatement. I think if Sakurai took better care of this being a Nintendo game then there would be less to complain about but that is clearly not the case. There are still tons of Nintendo characters people want but its hard to get them in when Sakurai is using the game as his own personal fangame.

You say Cloud saved Smash 4 for you. Well, Cloud, Bayonetta and Ryu killed the series for me. It's why I've been far less active here then I ever was during the Brawl and Smash 4 days. If anything, Isabelle is what got me interested in this game.

I'd say the other two stages are probably A Golden Sun stage and a Rhythm Heaven stage

When it comes to stages, I think people are paying too much attention to the newcomer and not enough to the game itself.

Yeah, we typically get stages that tie in with new characters, but why do you think Odyssey and BotW got a stage? It wasn't because they got a newcomer or because Sakurai felt like Link's redesign and Cappy's addition was enough to warrant a stage. Both were fantastic, critically-acclaimed games that sold like hotcakes.

There isn't much use of "saving the best for the last". A lot of people decide early whether they'll get a game or not.

Personally don't think MH is getting a stage unless Capcom actually got a MH rep in. I think that stage is just for Spirits only, imo.

Anyway id say Geno, Banjo, and Isaac. If Minecraft gets only an AT and not a stage, Rhythm Heaven too. All for different reasons.

Problem with your arguement is what a nintendo character is. Talk toany old school gamer what a nintendo character is and i guarantee megaman and simon willbe on that list. More companies released games on the nes and snes outside of nintendo.

Characters can end up being associated with a console evenif they are not owned by nintendo.

Only bayo and cloud do not match this perception.

On the blogpost for Rathalos, they didn't categorize it into a Monster Hunter series tag, which suggests that they don't plan on posting anything else related to MH.
