We have, roughly, just under 3 months until release.

Vergeben is giving us three more characters that are likely in: a Gen 7 Pokemon, Ken and another Square Enix character.

We're running out of time to get more reveals as we know they'll all be shown off before release. In my mind, we, maybe, have 5 characters, at max, left to reveal, but I'm going to conservatively say we have 4 left.

Maybe don't comment on subjects you don't have the context for? I've been here for a while and I've always stood by the fact Isabelle could not and would not be an Echo but time and time again I was shot down in this very thread.
I'm sure @Opossum can confirm this.

Ridley and K. Rool were cool for me because they're long requested. Simon and Inkling are just cool characters in general. This is the first newcomer I have been genuinely rooting for to get in. I am over the MOON right now!! Genuinely she might be my new main.

The direct in general had me hooting and hollering like new AC, new Luigis Mansion, bunch of FF stuff, and my all time favourite PS2 game, Katamari Damacy, coming to switch!

I think the fact Isabelle got such a lukewarm reception was more the timing than the character. She had the misfortune of ending a direct that was a week in the making. Very few characters could've held that position and keep the entire fanbase happy. I'm sure if she was revealed in something like a Smash Direct along with a fully unique newcomer, or even if her trailer in the beginning or middle of the direct, her reception would've been much more positive.

Regarding the 4Chan leak that getting attention, I don't think it amounts to anything. Smash threads are some of the most popular on /v/ and people are constantly making predictions, so someone was bound to get something right. It's definitely more of a case of 10,000 monkeys getting typewriters than someone having legitimate information. We had a very similar reaction to the leak that predicted Richter, which didn't predict Isabelle tonight.

There's a reason I come to Smashboards for my Smash talk rather then GameFaqs, 4chan or...*shudders* Youtube comments.

As heated as our discussions get sometimes, people here are generally fairly respectful and when they're not they're often shut down.

I still honestly have no idea what she actually does. If you just say "like Villager without the zoning", I'd translate that to "worthless" since the zoning is the only reason to play Villager, but I doubt Sakurai would make a new character with no meaningful upsides at all. Any guesses what this character is actually good at? I'm kinda at a loss from her trailer what about her is supposed to be compelling from a gameplay standpoint which is also the feeling I had about K.Rool at first; I just don't know here...

That also looks like a really stubby ftilt if you're right and that would probably give her a bad ftilt overall since range is one of the main things that kind of move needs. I'm hoping instead it's a jab and it's a quick, disjointed jab and that might be one of the actually good things about the character.

It's really hard to say, and I'm not really that great at this type of speculation. I could see that down special having niche use for ledge trapping. Her Dash Attack and Fishing Rod might be a ways to safely attack opponents who are offstage, so maybe she's a character focused around ledge control and edge guarding? We'll have to see her other aerials are like first to be sure though.

Unless Dante leak is true, NONE of the Vergeben characters need a new stage, even Geno.

The Dante leaker absolutely has credibility. I'm not going to let my bias get in the way of saying he can't be ignored.

Regardless, I still find him a bit suspect. Something about him being so knowledgable about DMC5 just makes me feel like he could be japing. To me, he's definitely a Capcom employee/insider of some sort, who had access to the direct or its schedule since Capcom content was in the direct. So they could very well have just seen that, knew Isabelle was there, and is just BSing the rest because he knows he has credibility. Wouldn't be the first time.

Obviously, I have no proof of this. But he's definitely not 100% reliable just because of this.

The original poster was really unaware of Animal Crossing's success because if that's Modest then Zelda sells like garbage (like I said the original Majoras Mask just broke 3 million). It's just not a comparison is my point, a lot of people know Isabelle.

Yeah, I was just using your point as a jumping off point for something I had been meaning to say for a while.

Isabelle is the fan favourite of one of Nintendo's biggest sellers. I think she deserves her spot on the roster, not to mention that the last few newcomers have all been classic characters or characters in their classic forms (); people have to keep in mind that we've had people saying on this thread that they didn't quite like that all the newcomers except Inkling were oldies.

We still have two and a half months to go, things can get crazy in this time (or not, who knows).

Well, nothing too unexpected, but it is nice to see Isabelle. And she's got two different outfits!

Interesting to see how she works out. She's got a unique number so she's not an echo like we'd all thought, but she's really looking like a Falco/Lucas level semi-clone more than anything else.

She absolutely deserves it. Congratulations to the fans!

We all need to be prepared for the possibility that 103 is it.

Though if we get Dante, I'm willing to extend the number to 105 to make up for the non-Geno Square character.

I initially fell for the argument that Isabelle was a Villager semi-clone at first, then decided she was a Wolf / Lucas style clone (all normals are different but specials are clearly derived from someone else) but only 2 of her special moves are similar to Villager. So she's unique.

I advocated for Isabelle as an echo in the past, but only because it seemed like it would be difficult to make her unique from Villager considering Villager already uses almost every object from Animal Crossing in their moveset, aside from the fishing rod which she now uses. I'm REALLY glad that Sakurai found a way to make her unique, and not even a semi-clone--she absolutely deserves it.

Yeah, you could honestly just plop Incineroar in Pokemon Stadium and put Geno on Mario Galaxy. It looks like Star Hill, it could work.

Nah it's so lame dude. Just get the GameCube bundle. It doesn't even come with smash ultimate on disc but a download code, and Nintendo is so behind when it comes to digital media being locked down severely.

The one with DMC5 info didn't disconfirm anyone, nor confirm anyone but Dante either. I don't even know if the guy who mentioned Dante in Smash is the same person as the DMC5 leaker based on that image I shared near the top of this page :I

You not knowing something is fine, but you'll have to accept that someone you don't know about became one of Nintendo's most popular icons without you knowing about it.

i think the hate comes from the fact that with one direct left and its is extremely unlikely to get Issac, geno, and/or banjo. since may already see banjo as unlikely this leaves some people in a wierd spot. if its geno or Issac its gonna be interesting. gonna be a lot of salt. Thats also assuming a surprise 3rd party doesnt show up. (although i can see them more as dlc as they'd draw more attention)

if it comes to that i expect issac to win out as he could have a new game announced and others outside the echo chamber predict that as well.

i just continue to observe how very juvenile this community continues to be sometimes. hating on a character like Isabelle is just insane.
