For me personally, I probably won't take part in speculation much after the full base roster comes out. I'll probably start hanging around characters threads and gameplay threads once the game comes out.

Maybe I was wrong on that, nintendo apparently owned majority stock in rare before it was sold off to microsoft. But that's not exactly relevant in 2018 anyway

Yeah, wanting a DS era character is annoying. They're too new to be Nostalgic for most people, but too old to be relevant. I'm trying to get Mystery Dungeon Grovyle into position to take Geno's place, but it isn't looking good.

Obviously that's his final smash. He blasts you into Mt. Rushmore and makes his face out of it.
Aside from Pokemon characters from Gen V (cough, Zoroark) there aren't really many options to choose from. Pretty insane to hear that considering how big the DS was, but it's true. Not many new characters and IPs debuted on that handheld.
I'm guessing it'll be something from a franchise with little hope of receiving a newcomer. WarioWare, Punch-Out!!, EarthBound, and KI are my guesses.
Relevancy doesn't necessarily matter. King K Rool wasn't relevant, was dismissed because people considered him a "Western character" despite being owned by Nintendo. These fan rules are being broken one by one, and that's the key point. To many people, Banjo & Kazooie will remain firmly Nintendo characters, regardless of who owns them or how they're used--that's where they began.
I thought about Goldeneye when making my post, but decided it's not the best counter example--James Bond was licensed content from another industry. Also, Sakurai specifically mentioned Goldeneye along with Banjo & Kazooie, talking about how they were off the table for Melee due to "adult reasons." So the possibility was there, however small, thanks to Goldeneye being a major exclusive best seller for Nintendo.Are you suggesting James Bond is a Nintendo character?

Incineroar. Not only because we already have lots of pokemon, but because he's a pokemon that I do not prefer.
I would prefer him to be DLC. Lots of people want him, so he'll be successful on that front. If it is hype, that could also be good marketing for dlc and I personally don't need him to be in the roster.
Too me, it would be a spiritual thing if this was the voice actor's last work before he died, he could live on in smash. Though I understand if he was excluded since the ballot is priority, and if Sakurai couldn't workout a moveset.
I mean just imagine the how much money both Nintendo and Microsoft would be getting through DLC. It'd be huge!

Why do you say that? Lara Croft wasn't really requested at all during Super Smash Bros 4 and Square-Enix has more popular series like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, and then Geno. There's also the issue of Lara's most iconic weapons being twin handguns and other similar weaponry. She was also irrelevant for a long time.
More than a few characters I love that are in Smash, I love thanks to them being in Smash.
Bayonetta is probably not getting anything new. The numbers from Smash 4 to Ultimate (according to the direct) are unchanged. Some of the Smash 4 tracks could have been dropped, but it’s not looking good.
