I don't expect a western third party character period, and if we did get one I think Rayman would come before them. They're popular but not nearly to the level of K Rool, Isaac, Ridley and Geno are, I feel like people generally overestimate their popularity tbh.

Also, "the n64 era" isn't a thing that needs representing, like, at all.

I think we need to eliminate the mentality of "western" 3rd party= impossible. K. Rool and Diddy Kong could have been "western 3rd parties" if Nintendo didn't buy the characters.

It's all circumstantial, Banjo could have easily been a Nintendo character but Rare kept the character

I'm getting tired of "X character represents Y thing!", especially when it's mostly "character from N64 game represents N64" "character from obscure game represents obscure game".
It's a bad argument and you all should feel bad.

The Ice Climbers were only considered in Melee because they could fill the role of being an NES character. Let's not pretend that representation isn't a factor for Smash rosters.

I’m just gonna say; watching the entire speculation community fall into a pit of he said she said regarding leaks has been both tiring and really boring.

I very much doubt the Smash development team has suddenly become some huge open book in the last two months that any leaker with a twig’s worth of credibility can gleam information from. And yet, every other topic I see revolves around some random Twitter account or the other releasing crazy new info. People are treating these attention-seeking dorks like they’re writing gospel, and it’s becoming draining, imo.

Banjo was never a nintendo character and unless nintendo bought rare he never would be

Because we already have a fighting game character in the game which is Ryu. Although Heihachi is the most likely I'd rather have someone more unique and interesting in feeling the second Namco rep slot like Agumon or Nightmare.

Again too he already starred in PSASBR. Let another Namco rep have their time to shrine in Smash.

Either way I much prefer Agumon or Nightmare. Not gonna deny though Heihachi seems the most likely at this point though especially to probably honor his voice actor.

I'd imagine they'd simply just take lines from Heihachi Tekken games to fill in what he says.

I remember KOS-MOS having decent popularity in the Brawl days.

But Xenoblade characters pretty much overshadowed any support she had left (not even taking into account the other Namco JRPG franchise.)

Seeing as how Ryu was implemented into the smash formula i'm sure heihachi will get translated in a different way more akin to the Tekken gameplay.

They're western made but are and always have been japanese owned, nintendo has always had the rights to those characters. And we would be having a different conversation if that did happen, but it didn't so it's not relevant at all.

My point still stands that adding a western owned character is much harder cause there's a much larger communication barrier

I'm not really sure there is a way to translate Tekken gameplay into a 2D game like Smash. I'm not against Heihachi per se, but I am hesitant about him. I just honestly don't know if he'd really feel unique; I kinda get the feeling he'd just wind up being like Ryu, which was already a "meh..." thing for me. Taking a fighting game character and putting them in another fighting game just doesn't excite me that much.

(Not dissing Heihachi; if he got in I'd be happy for people who want him! I just have my own doubts about it.)

Not really too keen with Lloyd being he's simply another sword fighter. Yes Nightmare is one too but he's rather an unique one. I'll gladly take Lloyd over Heihachi though.

Wanting Banjo and Kazooie mainly because you think we need more N64 reps is pretty dumb IMO. Ignoring the fact that console representation is a ridiculous foundation for supporting a character, the N64 already has plenty of notable reps thanks to OoT and AC.

Now the system that could really use some more reps is actually the DS. We have Lucario and... that's pretty much it.
