Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Primarina being feminine did turn me off at first, but it's grown on me more than I expected it to.
But she's simply no Decidueye.

I'm sure that if you were told to give up on your most wanted character for reasons that don't even make sense, you'd be just as bitter as I am now. Doesn't help that I was in a bad mood that day (As I am now, for that matter).
Decidueye supporters already get enough **** for being another "bandwagon" and I do my best to ignore it, and I tried to open up to possibility of another Alola Pokemon being added (Incineroar and Lycanroc are examples, someone even brought up Golisopod once and I'd be down for that since it's my 5th favorite Pokemon), but I don't appriciate people who put words in my mouth.
And like I said... I disliked Mimikyu to begin with. Hell, when it was leaked it seemed like I was the only person who didn't like it, and my favorite Pokemon is a chandelier with a face.
Dude, I'm a Ridley supporter. I'm well aware of what it's like to have people criticize you for supporting a character they don't like.

You just have to learn that what other people say about your character isn't how everyone else feels. Ignore the people who give you and your character baseless hate and stick close to those who agree with you and those who can debate you in a polite and respectful manner.

You're ignoring this part.

Besides, I'll have you know several K. Rool supporters lost interest because of how others reacted to his exclusion. This isn't very different.

Tapu Koko and Decidueye aren't on the list, but Incineroar ranked 13 (Although Litten ranked 7). Mimikyu and Lycanroc are ranked 2 and 5 respectively, and I know those two have a decent following for Smash.

There's still a fair amount of popular Smash picks ranked on this poll. I could see a few being considered if they add a Gen VII Pokemon.
Wait.

Did you just say.....Decidueye didn't even place....while Incineroar is number 13?
Where's the full list, by the way?

Excuse me if I'm interrupting anything, but I feel that this may be important, or at the very least worth talking about.
Eh, Emily Rogers has a rocky track record, to put it lightly.

Some of her more well-known "leaks" stated Mother 3 was to come out on Switch Q2 of 2017, and that the Splatoon footage shown off in the October 2016 Switch reveal was DEFINITLEY 100% that of an enhanced port, not a sequel.

Smash Switch is honestly just a safe guess at this point, especially in the very vague way she's wording it there, where it could be interpreted as either "deluxe" port or a sequel.

Wasn't that Liam who said that about Splatoon 2 being fake?

I think you're right. My mistake.

Emily also said that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would have new tracks, Pokémon Stars would be a thing in 2017, you would be able to choose to play as a female Link in BotW, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 would be a Switch exclusive.

Definitely not to be trusted.

I mean honestly I've grown to take any leaks I've seen with a grain of salt until we get actual information that it's coming; it may happen but at the same time it may not happen.

Got the other scan for the Nintendo Dream poll

Having no 15th affects my OCD badly.
When is there ever a "Top 14" instead of a "Top 15"?

I'd like Blaziken to be in smash, but I don't know how much love he would get considering he's already in pokkén tournament, but I think he would be a good addition to smash. Im also making a support thread for him, so be on the lookout.
I don't think a spin-off like Pokken is going to have much of a bearing on Smash either way. I have the same thoughts about Hyrule Warriors. That said, we'll have to wait and see to be sure. The games have been pretty successful, but they're still just spin-offs.

Character-wise, they're unlikely to affect Smash. We might get some other material from them, like say, music and trophies, maybe a stage or two, but not much more than that, most likely. I don't think either HW or Pokken has or will increase any character's odds of getting into the next Smash, outside of, maybe, taking a small amount of inspiration from them for movesets. Likewise a character being playable in Pokken doesn't rule out the possibility of them being playable in Smash, either.

For a good start, you can tell things were interesting when Sceptile and Blaziken were fighting for that top spot (which the latter had won). Not even Swoleness made Swampert popular, but he fared better than Mawile.

Next up, we have more Gen 3 Pokes coming your way, including a Legendary with a unique transforming gimmick and his own movie. Your picks are Deoxys, Breloom, Medicham, and Crawdaunt.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

This is getting me giddy.

Pokemon popularity poll results in Japan
So Rowlett got the number one vote? Not surprised.
This is why that Decuideye is the most likely Generation VII Pokemon to make a heavy return into Smash for Switch.
Did not expect Primarina and Alolan Vulpix to be that high, oh my goodness. Shocked Decuideye is not even in the top fourteen.
My hopes is that Decuideye is unique, which is likely. I could see it's final smash being Sinister Arrow Raid. That would honestly look amazing to watch. Would it just make the arrows projectiles out of the sky like meteors, would it trap someone and them blast them with arrows?
Edit: I think the Pokemon Sun and Moon anime could of had an influence on the voting.

Me personally? I imagine it to be like a multi-hit version of the Dragoon, considering the Z-Move's animation.

I don't think Decidueye has it in the bag just yet. As we've seen with the Fennekin line, a popular pre-evo doesn't always mean a popular final-evo. Decidueye got lower than the other final evos + Litten + the other likely Smash candidates + potentially Brionne if it's artwork means anything by being there.
Incidentally, here's the apparent % of the top 10 votes
My boy missed out on top spot by .10 of a percent.
I wonder what the 113 means. Does it mean only 113 people voted in this poll?

Here is where I'm stepping in.
Do NOT attribute Rowlet's popularity to mean anything for Decidueye's odds.

Rowlet's popularity only applies to Rowlet.

Oh.. my apologies.
It at least makes the Decidueye odds more popular.
Mimikyu: People would prefer it as an extra fighter which would make sense. It would probably be a Pikachu-semi clone. Having it's air attacks but different specials. I am most confused for what it's recovery would be. It's final smash would be a trapping type, named Lets Snuggle Forever.

In any case, this poll isn't a perfect reflection of these Gen 7 Pokemon popularity overall.

It does give us a little insight on what some fans in Japan prefer, but just a little. I was initially unsure of what to think, but now I'm leaning more towards the possibility that this really isn't going to affect Smash much at all. The only thing it does is give us some amount of insight.

Though I do still hope we can verify how many people voted on the poll.

I'm just a bit dumbfounded that the majority of Incineroar's voters were female.

I guess chicks dig muscle cats? :p

She tries to be over specific with her leaks for some reason. I've noticed she is almost always partially right. Yeah that can be attributed to being a lucky guesser but when you can consistently come REALLY close to being right and even nail certain other things that sound ridiculous, like Beyond Good and Evil 2 being at E3 despite the director saying it absolutely wouldn't, you gain a fraction of credibility. I'm not saying I trust her, it's just that people like to dismiss leaks for the hell of it because the leaker has a spotty track record. Which, by the way, all leakers have. Take it with a grain of salt but don't insult a person's credibility for misinformation that may or may not have been intentional.

Hasn't Pokemon become increasingly popular with Female gamers? Like moreso even than Male gamers? That's an achievement in it's own right.

Unless this picture is somehow fake, there seems to be more to the poll:

I guess we have to wait until someone scans the rest of the poll results. A top 50 seems likely, if this picture is true.

If Pokemon Switch keeps its release date this year, when will we start seeing new pokemon via leaks or marketing?

I could see Lycanroc as a character in smash. His down-B could be him changing forms, like midday, dusk, and midnight. But then again, he did rank at 44th.

They counted every form separately. Dawn was in the top 6.

But like everyone else, I don't get how Primarina got in the Top 3, or how Decidueye is the least popular starter. I'd be cool with Mimikyu, but I prefer Decidueye. I'm also surprised that almost every Pokémon is more popular with females then males.

If that pic is real, then I'm shocked to see Cheetos Puff Lycanroc rank 38 spots above Edgy Lycanroc.

Wonder how the Midday form ranked.

I'd take Cheetos Puff Lycanroc over Edgy Lycanroc.
Like seriously Edgy Lycanroc is almost on par with Mimikyu to me in terms of the Pokemon itself.

Ah. In that case, someone make a Lycanroc support thread, because im just rapping up my Blaziken support thread, and I could help if anyone needs it. I also want Decidueye in smash, because he was my starter Pokémon, and he's hecka cool

There is already a Lycanroc support thread, go check the directory.
Liked for the Decidueye part, btw.

The popularity of the Pokemon starters doesn't reflect their demand for Smash.

As far as I can remember, Primarina has been the most popular final evo of the three. However, Primarina also seems to have the least amount of support in the Smash community. Decidueye is the opposite of this, with low popularity in the Pokemon games, but high support for the Smash games. Incineroar has been stuck in the middle, in both popularity and Smash support.

Off topic but I saw Black Panther yesterday and it was amazing.:grin::grin:
Same, it was pretty cool. I liked the ending too, but I don't like where that certain person chose to die and not live, I think he could've been a cool guy. Also I just posted the Blaziken support forum, so maybe check it out?

In terms of possible Pokemon newcomers, I don't have that much knowledge in the series to pinpoint what newcomers I actually want the most. I'd be alright with pretty much anyone; Decidueye, Mimikyu, Primarina, Incineroar, Mewoth, Sylveon, Buzzwole, Lurantis... you name it. Just as long as they're fun to play as I don't really mind.

And before anyone says, yes I am aware half of that list is unlikely, was just saying as long as they're fun I'm fine with any Pokemon newcomer in Smash 5. The same could be said for pretty much any other series as well. Likewise, I wouldn't mind a character I hate made the roster, but was still made pretty fun to play as.
