Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Which character do you guys think could make into smash switch that has never made an appearance/cameo in any Nintendo game?

That's a pretty weird question to ask since if they are from nintendo then they most likely have appeared in Smash or some Mario game in one way or another.

I literally do not understand why Adeleine stopped appearing after Kirby 64. She was one of the cutest Kirby characters and could have been the perfect fourth character in Return to Dreamland and eventually be the perfect Kirby newcomer.

Seems that she's suffered K. Rool syndrome and has been cast to the wayside. Though Kirby seems to be aware of all of its characters from the past, and has brought a number of them back. I wouldn't say her returning in a future game is impossible.

1. She's human, the series has generally tried to as void them, it was even a rule of the anime
2. She is not a perfect choice for Adventure Wii because she doesn't match any of the abilities and she wasn't that significant to begin with.
3 there's not much room for good guys to return in newer Kirby games, the roles they could have are already filled by the core 4.
4 in a franchise like Kirby she is FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRR from the cutest character.

I don't get that. That's one of the reasons I liked her. She was a girl that lived among the cutesies in the forest without a care in the world as she paints her art.

Anybody can, really.

Why? And also, core FOUR? Is Waddle Dee really a core character? Just because he was playable in Return to Dreamland?

She's the second cutest after Kirby imo.

This seems relevant right about now.

The director of Kirby 64 (and Kirby's Dream Land 3, where the similar character Ado appeared), Shinichi Shimomura, seems to have vanished from the industry (the last thing that he worked on was Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland in 2002), so maybe that has something to do with it?

Ah, I had no idea you wanted to see Adeleine again! Are you at all aware there's a support thread for her?

https://smashboards.com/threads/adeleine-the-miracle-painter-for-smash-switch.447680/

I believe the main problem is directory. Whatever happened to Shimomura, the director of Adeleine's games, remains a mystery and for some reason, no other director has taken the initiative.

I think most of her supporters are waiting for her to be given a significant role in a modern game. I don't know how much I can wait, though...

That makes a lot of sense. It's a darn shame. I want her in Smash even more than I miss her.

And I personally think that a character who hasn't been on a Nintendo console before IS certainly possible, especially if that character had enough of a following.

I would love to have Adeline as a "retro" Kirby rep as well, however, I don't think the fanbase will like it much with the whole "Sakurai Bias" thing the fanbase blurts out.

Speaking of Kirby, what do you guys think of a Kirby newcomer in the first place?

Yes Core 4. He had done A LOT more than that

He was an assist in both Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot
The planet Robobot stickers group him with the other three on multiple occasions
He was the playable ally in Rainbow Curse
He was Kirby's ally throughout the whole story in Battle Royale
He occasionally hosts the Kirby twitter page
He sings in a song as a part of the Kirby 25th anniversary trailer
He even commentates on the Battle Royale trailer
He pops up in Kirby Team Clash Deluxe to guide the player in the beginning and give them daily apples

And he has his own name now. "Bandana Waddle Dee" is his official name, or for short. Bandana Dee or B. W. Dee

That's not very impressive compared to Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, but sure I guess.

Still rootin' for that Meta Knight clone because a pink, angel winged, masked warrior with a lance and a shield that never speaks and just destroys whatever he wants is too awesome. Plus his theme is amazing. Still surprised that he hasn't had any significant role in a Kirby game yet. MK summons him at the end of Meta Knightmare because he wants to beat the strongest warrior, pretty sure he just gets thrown into the True Arena in RtDL and then the computer at the end of Robobot summons him to attack Kirby.

Actually surprising to hear that the director of my favourite Kirby game (Crystal Shards) is no longer involved. I don't ever bother to see who made what games but I'm assuming Sakurai made my second favourite (Dreamland 2).

No, Shinichi Shimomura directed that game as well. He actually directed every game that featured Dark Matter in it, so that's Dreamland 2, 3, and K64. He was a mapper and designer for Adventure, Pinball Land, Dream Course, and Super Star. His last known work was a director for Nightmare in Dreamland, though that just might be legacy from Adventure.

Keep in mind that Bandanna Dee design was introduced in Kirby Super Star, and was only reintroduced as a major character in Kirby Super Star Ultra, a 2008 game. He's only truly been with the series for a decade compared to Dedede and Meta Knight's 25+ years.

He's pretty prominent in Shinya Kumazaki's games, which are more or less all of them after Ultra. I'd consider his rap sheet impresive, considering how young he is compared to the franchise.

It's also worth noting that that very specific Waddle Dee dates all the way back to Kirby Super Star. He's been a big part of the games recently, but he also has decent history.

It's the word "big" I take issue with. I'm not denying he's significant in anyway, I'm just saying it's not anywhere near the level of the three in Super Smash Bros.

Ah yes, Kirby Super Star. Did not Bandanna Dee used to be Sailor Dee or something? I felt like Bandanna Dee rose in popularity when Kirby's Return to Dreamland risen. Being able to play Bandanna Dee helped a lot of players think of move-sets for Bandanna Dee. He is even in Smash Flash 2.

Bandanna Dee first appeared in the Megaton Punch sub-game, where he got the Bandanna from. He was the first, fairly weak opponent.

He probably rose to some prominence during Supper Star Ultra, where he was presented as King Dedede's right hand man...er, Dee. While he got a boss battle it was... pathetic.

I do agree that Returns to Dreamland made him as prominent as he is now, though!

I don't see how that's an issue. Rosalina is nowhere near the level that Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser are on, and yet she was always in the plans for Smash 4.

One character I'd really like to see in Smash 5 is a car from Stunt Race FX.

It could be F-Type or Coupe. My personal preference would be 4WD but he might be too large to fit in the game. I'm thinking I might make a support thread for them.

I really would like to see a new game with this series. I'd love to see how it could be re-imagined with modern graphics.

Chibi-Robo is someone worth mentioning as surprising as it may sound. Not the most popular game series, but a notable Nintendo character.

Two other characters that have a lot to work with are Sheriff and Pilot from PilotWings.

If we're talking about new IPs, Splatoon, Arms, Rhythm Heaven, Balloon Fight, PilotWings, and Chibi-Robo are what I'd probably expect to be the most likely.

But, I'd love to see some unlockable Japan-Only IPs. That was so cool in Melee.

Why?

The first Chibi-Robo game was a masterpiece but it was a super obscure title in a series that progressively worse and worse until Photo Finder became my personal least favorite game ever.

Chibi-Robo would be amazing, don't get me wrong, but why is he notable? He's ultimately the mascot of a failed series. One that died out not from obscurity but from the games being bad.

The most notable thing he's done is had one really nice game on the Gamecube. That's the best he's got.

They do seem to be in the process of bringing her back, or at least starting to reference her. Her face popped back up again as a sticker in Robobot, and the Artist ability in Star Allies is a clear reference to Adeleine, with the red beret and being able to bring pictures to life. She's also featured prominently in the 25th anniversary artwork so they clearly haven't forgotten about her.

I agree with this, as usual.
Some people think that if you are iconic, you are added. For example, I hear people bring arguments saying "Bandanna Dee is not as iconic as Kirby, Dedede, and Meta Knight." Remember, iconicness is not always a reason to add a Smash for Switch character. Just want to mention that.

I would take another Mario Kart stage over that to be honest.

I feel like Chibi Robo's big opportunity to make it in Smash was Smash 4.

K.Rool syndrome? They actually tried to substitute K.Rool for lesser enemies many times, and King K.Rool was actually IMPORTANT and for more than one game.

Try again.

I'd say being iconic is an important factor for a character that's representing a series alone (not a definitive factor, but helps a lot) and fundamental for 3rd parties(bayonetta is an exception due to the ballot)

I'm considering making a Chandelure support thread, even though I'm not really that big of a supporter of it (I'd only support it because it's my favorite Pokemon) and despite its pretty much nonexisting chances.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a title though, any suggestions?
