Everything.

He doesn't belong in that series. It's Wario's. It's distinct. There's no reason to add him other than to be like "Look! Waluigi is in the game!". He'd overshadow the much more interesting and fun Wario cast.

Make a new Wario Land game, have Waluigi playable in it.

Wario Ware isn't tainted with the WAAAAAAAAH and people who like Wario Land get Wario Land back, not only that but Wario Land gets two playable characters.

Idk. Syrup looks normal, Diva looks absolutely insane, Shake King is in some weird middle ground where he's not that weird but he's still weird.

If we could have any pokemon from each generation playable in Smash, I would go with purely to my own wants:

Gen 1: Vaporeon or Ninetales (Zapdos is by far my favorite gen 1 mon but I don't think he would realizable as a Smash character)
Gen 2: Tyranitar
Gen 3: Gardevoir
Gen 4: I already have Lucario, but if I get another one then Weavile
Gen 5: Haxorus
Gen 6: Aegislash
Gen 7: Salazzle

People thought the chairs were a hint at Skull Kid but if you squint real hard you can see the chairs morph into Waluigi. Waluigi confirmed!!!

Yeah..but that'll never happen. Look how long it took Toad, Peach, and even Luigi to get their own games.
I'd rather have him as an unlockable character in a new Wario Land first..but the thought of a WarioWare where Waluigi literally tries to take over the game and rename it WaluigiWare while Wario tries to out do him would be hilarious.

It'd probably help if the first games titles weren't Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island.

They are definitely a side-series within the larger Mario Franchise, just like Luigi's Mansion, Donkey Kong, and Wario.

Not to be antagonistic but to play devil's advocate here, couldn't you say that about most Mario tie-in franchises? Hell even main line Mario games can be vastly different aesthetically and mechanically.

I believe it was that lovably cynical ******* Yashee Crowshaw who said that the term "Mario Game" has lost all meaning as it could mean anything from Super Mario to 64 to Galaxy to Odyssey to Kart to Golf to RPG to Paper to Maker to Striker etc.

Then you get to the tie-in franchises like Luigi's Mansion and Captain Toad, all of these still under the Mario umbrella, but all very distinct types of games.

Yoshi certainly isn't that far of a disconnect from Mario games

I could bet everything I have on Geno getting in. There's just too strong of a case here.

• Sakurai mentionning he wanted to put Geno in Brawl in an early 2016 interview
• Said interview also has him recognize Geno as a very popular character
• The addition of other popular wants such as Chrom, Ridley and K. Rool
• His Mii Outfit got much more attention than any Mii Outfit, having its own unique splash art and a dedicated section of the Final Smash 4 Direct which wasn't even necessary; just five seconds like any other outfit rather than the minute or so we actually got would've been enough
• Unrelated to specifically Geno, but Square already got one of their big franchises in (Final Fantasy), so asking for something more obscure is possible

You could say the stars are aligning for him to be in Ultimate :V

There's also the artist (that works for square?) that removed his Geno art description (about him being a hot topic there) after posting it. It was posted around the same time Smash ultimate had made its first proposal (Dec 2015)
