Miis were intrinsically a part of the custom special system in Smash 4. When it was decided to ban that system, they pretty much had to follow. In Smash Ultimate it's not really the same situation; there's no reason to assume they'll be banned or really treated any differently from any other characters. We do know they have some selection of specials still unlike other characters, but as long as the menu works in a non-stupid way, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Note how Jigglypuff, Bulbasaur and Pichu all made it into the top 100.

I know what you mean, just having some fun. Since ATs have less polish put into them overall, I imagine that they'd fix the issue if he does get promoted next time.

I agree that Mario and Co. should probably be the most represented in a Nintendo cross-over game. That being said, Pokemon has a ton of unique designs and powers to pull from, and provided they don't pick one of the boring ones, I'm always up for a new Pokemon fighter.

In fact, just give us a Smash spin-off featuring only Pokemon... please

I had a shower thought earlier today. There are three characters that are very likely to be newcomers or echoes. They are: Shadow, Skull Kid, and Isabelle.

Shadow has not yet been shown off as an AT. His AT may have been replaced by Knuckles. A new item called Timer functions pretty much the same way as Shadow's AT did.

Skull Kid has not yet been shown off as an AT. His AT may have been replaced by The Moon. A new item called Ramblin' Evil Mushroom functions similarly to Skull Kid's AT did.

Isabelle has not yet been shown off as an AT. Her AT may have been replaced by either Kapp'n (the new Animal Crossing AT) or Chef Kawasaki. Chef Kawasaki functions similar to Isabelle's AT did, by giving out food to the player (after using Kirby's Final Smash, of course).

Based on this info, I say that these are the big three.
Shadow has, I'd say, a 90% chance of being playable.
Skull Kid has, I'd say, a 93% chance of being playable.
Isabelle has, I'd say, a 94% chance of being playable.

As for Isaac and Geno, I'd give them about a 70% of being playable, since they're both very popular picks, and the tweet Sakurai made that may be a hint for Isaac, but may also be a coincidence. I dunno. However, not only did Isaac's AT not appear in Sm4sh, but also I heard that recently his music tracks were removed from Metroid stages, which could mean that Sakurai is doing away with Isaac, or that he may be getting his own stage. Either way, it's looking fairly good for these two.


As for Dixie Kong, and Impa, it could go either way for any of them. I'd give them about a 50%, since we haven't seen any clues or hints that could lead to them being playable. Plus, if we get Skull Kid, that means we'd have a new rep for both Zelda and DK, and that may hurt their chances a bit.

Obviously, popularity seems to be what Sakurai is going for, and these characters are all popular picks, especially Isaac and Geno. But I'm sure there are other popular choices I missed or didn't think of. But I say if we're gonna get anyone else, it's gonna be Skull Kid, Shadow, and Isabelle.

I suggested a (bad) idea yesterday that Bandana Dee could be a Kirby echo, just with Marth's Shield Breaker and Counter instead of Inhale and Stone (obviously using a Spear and not a Sword).

I suggest people get ready for it to be a reality.

Well they got banned last time because they weren't set in stone, they could be customized indefinitely with different moves, heights, etc. In order to make the meta easier to identify, they had to all be the same. This led to the "1111" fighter, but even with this, no one really played them (since their whole gimmick is being customized), so they cut them out completely.

Also the fact that you have to create your fighter before the match, which slows down the speed of tournaments.

Pokemon is Nintendo's second biggest series, and the biggest media franchise of all time. Every Pokemon in Smash is unique so I don't mind having so many, or getting more. Then again I love Pokemon so I might be a bit biased.

You don't know Mii Gunner will be "underrated" in Smash Ultimate. It could easily be top tier!

Mii Gunner is an interesting character in 4. It has a lot of really good spatial control moves (that down-B bomb and the grenade special in particular are just amazing projectiles).

Down B bomb - Netrual B grenade was my go-to moveset for Mii Gunner.

It just makes Mii Gunner so much fun to play. One of the best things about the Down B bomb is that its trajectory makes it an incredibly good tool for hitting opponents below the ledge. Also, its explosion sound effect is one of the best in the game.

Mii Gunner's F-air is also a fun move to hit people with.

It's a shame to see Yveltal not be any higher. I'm a sucker for Dark types, so yeah. So good for literally every Dark type Pokémon there.

I love the concept, and have one of the earlier versions, but I had no one to play it with, so it died on the vine pretty quickly for me

Why would it hurt their chances, if they are Echoes? It's not like that was stopping Lucina or Dark Pit in Smash 4. Mario even got 2 unique newcomers in Smash 4, and even got Dr.Mario back on top of it. I can see Zelda and DKC getting similar type of love, because they are also huge veteran Nintendo franchises in dire need of new representation. It's not like Dixie or Impa aren't heavily requested either.

Impa was easily the front runner for a Zelda newcomer untill people realised Skull Kid got a chance after all. Dixie is also heavily supported by the K.Rool community now, following the trend of the original Diddy 4 Brawl supporters moving unto supporting King K.Rool full time ever since Diddy's confirmation (this basically means the DKC fan community in Smash Bros. is HUGE!).

Am pretty sure they are just about the most likely Echoes we haven't seen yet. Also the most awesome.

That makes sense. They should really release mii fighter amiibo's so you can always have your custom mii fighter ready for locals and tourney's.

You're right, but from what I've seen, Shadow, Skull Kid, and Isabelle have the best chances out of anyone, and Isaac, Geno, Impa, and Dixie Kong have decent to good chances. But I'm just going off of what we've seen in the direct and what other people are saying

I suspect slightly that Blaziken's votes were split between Blaziken and Torchic.

Also, Swampert and Dedenne are Japan's meme Pokemon as well.


Anyway, that poll probably shouldn't be the only reference point, even if it's the only official poll we have. I do remember that everyone got 10 votes (each vote had to go to a different Pokemon).

Probably the only two characters that I'd actively be angry about. Especially Camilla. She represents all the worst parts of Fate's writing.

But regardless, I doubt we'll ever get a side character in Smash when there's so many protagonists left who are trying to squeeze their way in.

Dedenne likely isn't a meme vote. It played a semi-major role in the XY anime as part of the main group's Pokémon roster, so that's likely why it placed as well as it did.

Personally it's my favorite of the traditional Electric Pikaclones.

Oh, I didn't even notice this before, but they changed the animation for the 3rd hit of downward Dancing Blade. Now it's more of swiping attack than a downward stab like before.

You can see it during the footage of Roy's classic mode if you slow down the speed of the video.

Toon Link is a VETERAN. They have never revealed a newcomer in an NPC role before revealing them as playable.

Closest thing to a Toon Link type of situation would be the reveal of and . The first was teased for a little over half of the Smash 4 speculation (from Uprising being released before its development then the fake leaks of her and her statue at her temple to getting the Three Sacred Treasures followed by the troll with Pseudo Palutena and then her actual reveal)...while was just teased and had nothing else

It's quite touching, really. This is how it should be for everyone supporting a series, and something I'd wish would happen more often.

Oh not everything always went as smoothly let me tell you! Lots of competition especially between K.Rool and Dixie fans, which pulled me back greatly from the official K.Rool support thread, cause I always felt Dixie is just as deserving and probably needs the support more (I was right). And even back in the Brawl days there where some minor idiots who argued King K.Rool would've been a better addition than Diddy due to... strange reasons. One being another Kong means that Diddy would be a DK clone for example ... Luckily that wasn't as much of a thing.

Yeah the Diddy supporters where quite eager to jump over to support King K.Rool however. But see, that happens when a popular franchise goes on a hiatus and then even tries to bury it's most beloved characters. Even us DIDDY supporters had it badly with "relevance" seeing as Jungle Beat didn't even had Diddy, but this.

Now compare that to K.Rool's situation, and where he was ballantly replaced with a expy as this...

Luckily for us Diddy supporters, PAON was still around to make games as DK King of Swing and Jungle Climber, giving Diddy his needed roles, plus having lots of "Mario cameo relevance" due to suddenly appearing in Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Tennis & Golf for GameCube, and all that.

It's been a rough ride, but am seeing this through till Dixie at the very least enters Ultimate.
