Wasn't the Terra/Bamco Rep/Monster Hunter guy confirmed an imposter?
I really don't believe they would show Rathalos before a monster hunter character, that kinda kills the surprise aspect of it if you show the assist/stage then go oh hey look MH has a character too and smash is obsessed with generating hype.
Does anyone remember the guy whos aunt is a psychic who asked her what the spirits have to say about the smash newcomers? and does anyone remember whether her predictions have come true so far?
Re: Shadow's possible trailer theme; I would prefer not to have Throw It All Away. It's a severely edgy song and doesn't fit his awesomeness anymore. Even I Am (All Of Me) feels way less edgy. And that's saying a lot. Like, some songs in Shadow are edgy, like Almost Dead, but the rest just show how he's an anti-hero, not really true hero or true dark. All Hail Shadow doesn't like a pure hero either. A darker hero. This is his main style, and I love it~
I don't think DK and Dixie really have that disparate of builds, myself. DK's just bigger. You can just scale down his move, imo, and then it'd be reanimated anyway to fit her.

In terms of characters, I'm actually really pleased with it. Like, this is a great roster. Good first party picks (Ridley, K. Rool, Isaac, Inklings) and great third party picks (Simon, Terra, Monster Hunter, and Bandai Namco Rep).
Your roster is off center though, which is probably why it looks odd. /s
I don't know. I think it's in line with what we know about Sakurai. Terra instead of Geno could easily be explained by Square Enix still deciding not to play ball for whatever reason. Also, it's possible to infer that loz18's comment about the next couple of reveals being related to major Nintendo Switch releases could mean something along the lines of a new Final Fantasy game, or a Final Fantasy 6 remake in the near future. That's a reach though.
I'm gonna be honest here… a FF6's character (one of the best FFs out there by popular choice worldwide) TO ME makes more of a shocking surprise than Geno. But that's just me…
On the idea of a FF6 Remake… geez… it's a dangerous move by SE but definitely one to admire if they do it right. I just don't know when will that even happen, considering they are not giving us crap info abotu FF7 remake at all for 3 years already since it was announced… So I think maybe a FF6 HD port would be more possible, or maybe an FF6 type of remake that looks like Octopath Traveler… just throwing ideas, lol.
If we had a direct every month, and we have 3 months left, what exactly would you put in those 3 directs?
The main meat is obviously a character reveal, but what else? You could obviously go in-depth on Spirits, but that's just one direct. What happens after that, going over Online mode? It sounds like 2 Directs are more useful than 3.
I don't think we'll get a fully fledged Smash Direct in September, there will likely be a regular Nintendo Direct that goes in-depth about the Switch's online service and other news, and we'll just get a trailer for a newcomer in it like in the Smash 4 days.

If that GAF leak is right, we are probably getting more stages (I can't imagine them adding Heihachi and not giving him a stage, as well as Monster Hunter. Two Golden Sun characters stage-less would be weird, though I guess Melee gives a precedent). So if that's the case, the menus may be a WIP, music menu included.
This is exactly what I believe. It'd be suspect if Golden Sun, Monster Hunter, or Tekken/Tales of/Digimon have a logos on the music screen, or if Final Fantasy has a new logo and a bunch of music, or if there are multiple stages for series not even announced on the stage select screen.
Sakurai is the kinda guy to hold back information, and I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case even if the leak is fake.

Bro do you know how much money that would make? The engine is there, just make Final Fantasy 6 over it. It'd be perfect.
I also think Terra did well on the ballot, considering people wanted a Final Fantasy character, but didn't believe Cloud was eligible and voted for Terra instead. I think Shroob
made a good point about her being able to represent the series' core mechanics (i.e. magic and summons) better than Cloud.

It's not the craziest roster but I'm starting to think the Roy/Chrom thing was a stupidly lucky guess. At this point, at least one of our 'plausible leaks' (the codes, this guy, loz18, vergeben) has to be false purely by contradictions. At this point, it may be interesting to just create a DM group analyzing anything that's super plausible (especially so we don't clutter up the thread or posts getting lost in the thread)
Now if we got Richter and Chrom(Roy), it'd be a different story.
I'll maybe write up a post about stages soon. I don't know; I've been thinking a lot lately about what to expect out of the final roster. I think the biggest statement I have is that we've all been looking in some of the wrong places, myself included. In a lot of respects, I think we're on the right track.
If there's demand for this I'd be more than willing to create a DM group solely for analyzing credible leaks. Sessions and basic "leak" discussion would stay on this board, as I'm not willing to repeat the mistakes of the Smash 4 Leaks Group. Paging Verde Coeden Scalesworth
, IsmaR
, and particularly Cyn
to ask whether or not this is okay, or if they would prefer for all leak discussion to stay on this board.
The only thing is I'd need a premium member to make it though. As far as I understand I can only add a max of 10 people in a conversation since I'm a non-premium scrub.
For everyone wondering about the NeoGAF leak here's a discussion piece I did on it.
Sure. I've included the original and the supposed followup in separate text boxes. This will also be somewhat of an analysis of this supposed leak as it's actually kind of interesting.
There are two parts to this "leak," an original and a supposed followup which adds information.
I might delete this post soon since I don't want to cause the source I got this information from any trouble though I can't help it to share this information out of curiosity, even if it won't stay here for too long.
Here is some basic information that I've got:
- The Fire Emblem Series won't receive any newcomers but 2 who are based on existing fighters
- The Legend of Zelda Series won't receive any newcomers
- The Pokemon Series won't receive any newcomers
- Something about an addition to Cloud was mentioned, though I don't know for now if it's gonna be another Final Fantasy character or some other Square Enix character
There are gonna be 12 newcomers in total from which 5 of them are going to be based on other fighters.
For the new ones I only got information on 3 characters who should appear in this title:
- Simon Belmont
- King K. Rool
- Isaac
- X
- X
- X
- X
As for the 5 who are based on other fighters I could also just get the name of 3 of them:
- Chrom based on Roy (appearently with other effects than flames?)
- Soren (I don't know about any changes but he willl be based on Robin)
- Ken ( Based on Ryu with Flame effects)
- X
- X
Some of those will be announced very soon.
Take it or leave it I don't care, I will delete this post soon anyways.
Hello again everyone.
I wanted to share the missing information with you all that I got for the game's final characters.
2 out of the 7 newcomers are already confirmed and here are the final ones.
- K Rool (already confirmed)
- Simon Belmont (already confirmed)
- Isaac (is on his way)
- Monster Hunter (is still in development which is the reason why he wasn't confirmed today)
- Terra from the Final Fantasy Series
- Another Bandai Namco character
- Prince Sable from "For the Frog the Bell Tolls"
Coming to the Echo Fighter there are people who didn't understand the system behind my information. The 2 "X" that were left were indeed Dark Samus und Richter. It was the amount of characters I got information on for the time being. And I didn't include characters like Inkling,Ridley and Daisy since they were already officially confirmed at that point. Since people doubted it I only wanted to share information again when some of the characters I called were finally confirmed.
There will be no more "X" this time since I wanted to make sure that everyone is named.
With that said there will indeed be more Echo Fighters than I anticipated before.
- Chrom based on Roy (already confirmed)
- Soren based on Robin (still on his way)
- Dark Samus based on Samus (already confirmed)
- Richter based on Simon (already confirmed)
- Ken based on Ryu (still on his way)
- Shadow the Hedgehog based on Sonic (still on his way)
- Felix based on Isaac(will be revealed together with Isaac like Simon was with Richter)
- Isabelle based on Villager (still on her way)
- Galacta Knight based on Meta Knight (still on his way)
As for the Bandai Namco character, it's the only one left I don't know about. I will update it if I get my hands on that information.
That's it for the main roster. I don't know if there are any plans for DLC but since Super Smash Bros for the Wii U had DLC you can most likely expect it here as well.
This post will be deleted soon as well. And again, take it or leave it.
I'm also quoting @Sykin's post about the threads and accounts for reference.
Lets list some facts:
The original "leak" was posted by an account named Whisslbank around early July (July 3rd if I'm correct). It claims the following:
7 newcomers, 5 echoes
K. Rool
Simon
Isaac
4 other newcomers
Chrom based on Roy, a claim unheard of at the time
Soren based on Robin
Ken based on Ryu
2 other echoes
"Some of those will be revealed soon
Soon after that, K. Rool, Simon, and Chrom as a Roy echo are revealed. Richter and Dark Samus fit into the two X's within the "leak"
The account that posted the original does not exist anymore.
Yesterday, after the Smash Direct, Whisslbank comes back and adds on to their "leak," claiming in addition to their previous leak:
Monster Hunter
Terra Branford
An unknown Bandai Namco Rep
Prince Sable
More echoes, and confirmation of the above italicized point: "The 2 "X" that were left were indeed Dark Samus and Richter. It was the amount of characters I got information on for the time being."
Shadow based on Sonic
Galacta Knight based on Meta Knight
Felix based on Isaac, to be revealed alongside him
Isabelle based on Villiager
Soren uses a "modified dagger" instead of the bronze sword
No info on DLC
The second leak is posted by Whisslbank using a different account, as proven by @Sykin.
Lets take this a step further.
Trying to access Whisslbank's original account leads to this message: "The requested user could not be found." Obviously, this means that the account doesn't exist. NeoGAF accounts cannot be deleted by the user, and can only be affected by the moderation team. This means that the moderators of NeoGAF took action against Whisslbank's original account. Compare the error message to that of someone banned, and you get a slightly different message, being "This user's profile is not available." The account still exists, but cannot be seen by regular users, compared to the original account, which doesn't exist at all. Based off of this, we can infer that the moderators of NeoGAF banned Whisslbanks's original account. Now, we need to think of why the moderators deleted Whisslbank's account.
Did Whisslbank ask the moderators to delete their account, and we're noticing it just now?
Did the moderators decide to delete the account due to supposed trolling?
Or did they delete the account because the information Whisslbank "leaked" was actually true?
The first option is possible, but the moderators are known to take a very long time to delete accounts, if they ever actually do it. I'm hard pressed to believe this option. The second option is even harder to believe, as the moderators simply ban users who troll, and only do so for egregious violations, like posting porn. Of course, it's possible that the moderation team doesn't take kindly to supposed leaks, but this would have to be a recent shift in policy as leaks have originated from and been discussed on NeoGAF for years now. That leaves the third option as the strongest in my opinion, as it's not hard to believe that a Nintendo employee caught wind of what Whisslbank said in their first "leak" and took immediate action to shut it down.
From there the next question is: Was Whisslbank guessing with their claims?
The claims that they made weren't exactly difficult. King K. Rool and Simon were the two most popular characters to appear in supposed leaks. Chrom as an echo fighter was popular speculation, but the fact that Whisslbank claimed Chrom would be an echo fighter of Roy instead of the widely speculated Ike stands out more.
Of course, this claim could just be trying to give the "leak" notoriety because it made a couple of odd claims (like Soren being an echo of Robin), or a smart inference that Chrom fights like Lucina, who fights like Marth, and would therefore be an echo of Roy as Marth already has Lucina as an echo fighter (that's a confusing explanation). If so, that's a smart guess. The next step I'd want to take is checking Soren or FE9/FE10's popularity in Japan. If it's sizable enough, then Soren might not be as odd of a claim as we think he is (we got Richter due to his popularity within his series, particularly in Japan).
I think this "leak" is worth watching, and I'm even upping it to a "Leak" of Interest.
This is an odd bookend, but I thought I'd address this as well:
"2 of 7" refers to the 2 out of 7 unique newcomers predicted within the supposed "leak." The leaker themselves said this as well:
3, + the 3 that our "leaker" predicted (K. Rool, Simon, and Chrom as a Roy echo) + the two X's for echoes (supposedly Dark Samus and Richter) = 8
There's the math.
Does anyone remember the guy whos aunt is a psychic who asked her what the spirits have to say about the smash newcomers? and does anyone remember whether her predictions have come true so far?
IMO Black Knight should be what he is, a boss character. As much as he would be cool, he'd be another blue-haired sword-user. It'd be embarrassing for FE at that point if it isn't already. His unique qualities like being an armored unit who would be slower, heavier, and have super-armor/armor would be squandered by being an Ike Echo. We don't have to have an Ike Echo just because we can. Echoes should make already requested characters get in, Echoes shouldn't be made just for the sake of it.
September Direct - Elma (ties in with Xenoblade 2: Torna DLC, a datamine spoiler is involved), Bandana Dee, MAYBE a 2nd Bandai Namco rep and/or some echoes, more on Online since the Switch online service officially rolls out in September
October Direct - Chorus Kids, Gen 7 Pokémon, spirits mode
November Direct - Isaac...? And maybe also Isabelle. Last few stages, MAYBE hints at DLC
this is all the bare minimum mind you, there may be unexpected surprises in said directs
So I've been trying to figure out how much of a guarantee Isabelle has in joining the roster, and with Vergeben saying she's in the game, it got me thinking: Is there anything he's said about Smash Ultimate that hasn't come true yet or does he have a perfect track record for this game so far? Should I actually believe what he said about Isabelle (and Minecraft) or is he not as credible as I think?

Okay I have an idea for Angry Video Game Nerd's Classic Mode:
1. Future **** balls 2010: vs. Giant R.O.B. at Wily's Castle
2. Dungeons & **** holes: FFA vs. Link, Zelda, and Young Link at Great Cave Offensive
3. Happy Fun Candy Time: Team Kirby at Super Happy Tree
4. Asshole vania: 2v2 with Luigi vs. Simon and Richter
5. Thy Farts Consumed: 1v3 vs. Mario, Bowser, and Hades
6. Boo! Haunted House: FFA vs. Ridley, Skull Kid, and Geno
Edit: I did the best with the censorship, but a few words still got through. Sorry.

also I wanna return to the uncertainty over Elma’s relevancy from earlier - there’s always a possibility of a Xenoblade X Switch port being announced, perhaps even a “definitive edition” with content that’s not in the Wii U version. And to not give any explicit spoilers, there’s a sequel hook at the end, so there will most likely be a sequel, especially with how well X was received in the West.
Xenoblade X was also not that well received in the west though. This has nothing to do with relevancy or Elma's chances for Smash, but I've seen the Xenoblade fanbase become split and become a shadow of their former selves with my own eyes, when X released.
People whine about XB2 that its to anime, but honestly thats the only real complainment it has. X was panned to death for the music, the lack of story, the difficulty etc., and diehard X fans would hate you if you preffered the original Xenoblade. It was awful
Also an X sequal could also mean a game with a similair style because Takahashi is sadly infamous for unfinishing stories like with Xenogears and maybe Xenosaga.
After looking at what I consider current credible leaks(Vergeben, Loz, and Protonmail & Japan) and the mii costumes,. This my current prediction for uniques.

Oh, Rex is totally happening (probably as DLC). Also, XC2 was well received in both Japan and North America and Rex looks kinda unique as a fighter, but i'm not too sure about Elma.

1. At least six new fighters including the recently confirmed Simon and King K. Rool (though whether or not Ridley and Inklings are a part of it is unknown).
2. Some Minecraft content--maybe a stage or an Assist Trophy (my guess is, it's the Stage Builder).
3. Isabelle--now updated as a likely Echo Fighter rather than a unique fighter.
4. A Pokémon from Gen 7--likely to be Incineroar.
In addition, Loz18 also stated that we'd be getting a ton more Echo Fighters and at least two more fighters--one of which being Skull Kid. Though shortly thereafter, he decided that he wasn't going to leak any more info, so his source may have been caught. He has disagreed on the Pokémon rep that Vergeben had leaked, which is why it's unconfirmed, believing that we probably aren't going to get a new Pokémon rep.
As far as characters like Isaac, Geno, Bandana Dee, Heihachi, etc., neither Vergeben nor Loz18 know for sure. But if I have to take a guess, Geno and Bandana Dee probably have the best shot at getting in alongside Skull Kid and maybe the Gen 7 Pokémon rep.

*cracks knuckles* As someone who was disappointed with X and turned off so badly from 2 post release I can assure you it's not just the offputting anime look. Also, XCX isn't hard per se, just has a lot of unfair enemy placement and a final boss which can eat my ass.
That being said I'd prefer Elma because as disappointed as I was, I did enjoy things of the game and Xenoblade 2's writing team tries to pull off the same stunt the Emoji Movie did
