In all seriousness, I don't think Yoshi would get killed (or Kirby for that matter). And that's not because of my uber obsession. I can't see them thinking of a scenario they could do that that's in good taste.

I legitimately believe Black Shadow has more of a chance than Deathborn, notably because by the SSB4 trophy descriptions, they follow the GP Legend/Climax timeline. Zoda is described to be modified by Black Shadow, which is only true in that series (and the anime but the anime was created before the concept of the games and pretty much served the purpose of Roy in Melee).

They're also the same person in that series so win/win.

"An F-Zero pilot feared even by the king of evil, Black Shadow. He has died and reconstructed himself three times, and his newest body is immortal. He can travel through space-time at will, casting his foes into far corners of the universe, and he aims to dominate the galaxy using the power of the two champions' belts. "

I don't think that makes any sense since Deathborne was an underling of Black Shadow in the Anime... So maybe there is a weird mixed timeline or a new continuity? I dunno.

Now that this site isn't moving slower than erosion, allow me to post my full thoughts:

Simon: Already knew he was getting in from the leaks. He looks rad to play as though, and he may be a secondary.
Richter: Kinda threw me for a loop when I saw him but I'll glady accept him. Plus this means that any arguments against Shadow (or any Sonic character for that matter) are thrown out the window. I also find it funny that despite our thoughts on Snake coming back prior to E3, Konami currently has the most characters of any third party company. Imagine that.
Chrom: Don't mind another Fire Emblem character honestly. Plus I like Chrom's design.
Dark Samus: Wasn't expecting her but welcome her regardless. I admire how different her animations are.
King K. Rool: HOLY ****ING **** THE KING IS BACK AND BETTE THAN EVER!!
103 Stages: Wow, that many? I will kinda admit only having four new is kinda underwhelming. At least we have Fountain of Dreams and Kongo Jungle 64 back.
900 pieces of Music: Seriously? Damn, that's a lot.
Classic Mode: FINALLY what seems to be a good Classic Mode! Having every fighter get their own set of battles kind of feels like them fixing the monotony fans have been complaining about, since they're gonna be doing it to get each character's trophy anyway. Hopefully this mindset translates to All-Star Mode too.
Fighting Options: DAMN these are exciting. Gonna be fun playing around with these with my siblings. Also the ability to save rules is a godsend.

Overall? REAL solid direct. Loved every second of it.

Isabelle not seen at all.

Barbara
Isaac
Jill
Excitebike
Ray MK III as the most notable.

I doubt many of these characters will have a chance to do much, but some do.

Shadow has a good chance of coming as an echo character. I’d say that’s the most likely of that list.

I would be down for so many of them though.

They've shown all the new characters in Directs so far, so I believe that we are gonna get newcomers in Directs only now.

Actually yes. In Mario's case it's his stoic personality that makes the scene more tolerable and for Luigi it's in his character to be in situations like that AND to be shafted (fyi he's my second favorite character of all time). Yoshi has too much of a sweet personality to make death scenes in good taste...

So Mario and Luigi are in a unique position for being killed off. They're very cartoony characters, so it won't be taken too seriously, but aren't "cute" characters so they aren't upsetting to get offed in these trailers. Plus, Mario Bros. are pretty iconic in terms of death and coming back, it's not even treated as that big a deal in the main games (i.e. you don't lose much and there isn't an emotional death/game over screen). They really hit a sweetspot for being perfect punchlines for these trailers not a lot of characters can.

Mega Man fits this well too, and he's a robot so he can just be rebuilt. Based on all this...

Wario could be next?? I could see him being fatally punished for his greed. Donkey Kong could also be okay but he still feels like an 'off' character to kill to me.

Even if his tweets have some message, I don't think it's worth looking too deep into them since it sounds ridiculous even if we get it right and it's hard to make sense of anyway.

You know what's important to me? Really meaty event matches. What do I mean by meaty? Well, ones that feel like a fun challenge you'd want to do more than once, something with oomph.

An example I could give is that, in Melee, one of the event matches was just fighting Master/Crazy Hand at a really high level of difficulty, which is an awesome thing to be able to do at will. So it was not only a challenge, but also a reward, since unlocking it gives you access to this bossfight at will. Same with event 51, and the one where every pokeball is a legendary.

If Black Shadow is supposedly more important, then what sentiment does Deathborn have as "being the guy that Black Shadow is afraid of"? Deathborn could have been another random villain schmuck like Zoda if they wanted to, but they decided to keep that in...
I'm not saying Black Shadow is dumb, but he's definitely born to be an echo fighter compared to Deathborn. Also there are a lot of other racers who use their GX stories as well?

It's an odd bunch.
No seriously, it is super weird. Because Zoda and Black Shadow are the only F-Zero GP Legend villains that really mattered in the story, and not only that, but that specific version of them is in Smash as well. F-Zero canon is wildin' dude.

Jody and Blood Falcon also fit their GP Legend incarnations as well.
