Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

So misunderstandings aside, how would you or anyone else for that matter feel if Blaze the Cat was a newcomer?
It'd be rather unexpected seeing her get in over other possible Sonic reps, but she'd have a pretty cool moveset and it'd be nice seeing an unexpected Sonic character get a turn in the spotlight.

Time for another survey list...

What in your opinion are the 5 most likely Echo characters that are gonna be added to Ultimate?
  • Viridi (Palutena)
  • Chrom (Ike)
  • Shadow (Sonic)
  • Isabelle (Villager)
  • Dark Samus (Samus)

"Everyone is here" probably means they will add characters that were in smash but were not playable (Ridley, Inkling and Daisy were represented in the past)

Here's a new question.

Which newcomer has the best render?

Which veteran that was previously cut at one point has the best render?

Which veteran that was never cut has the best render?

I love this one, it looks really clean.

I don't support any echo fighter that only became popular once people started looking for echo fighters.

Imo if they were really a character worth adding they'd have organic demand and merits recognized before people tried to fill this pigeonhole.
That's true. I'm seeing more people vouching for Dark Samus now because of a simple change in terms.

Not that I mind too much, I wanted the character for a while, though I'd prefer her to be a semi-clone like Wolf.

Here's a new question.

Which newcomer has the best render?

Which veteran that was previously cut at one point has the best render?

Which veteran that was never cut has the best render?
1. Ridley so far(someone might usurp him)

2. Wolf or Snake

3. Toss up between Ganon, Mega Man and Z.S. Samus.

Damn i'm craving some ****ty leaks today
I'm short a couple "leaks" for a session, but I guess I'll throw together what I've got.
My sources for this information, who choose to stay anonymous because of Sakurai’s recent statement of disdain towards leakers, has seen a semi-current project plan with all new content listed in tiers of importance. With the stringencies the team has been facing, they wanted a fine line on what content was crucial to be added and what is not that important. With the rate of process the team is currently undergoing, tiers A and B will be accomplished but the amount of work done in C will be questionable.
A: Returning all characters, Inklings, Ridley, Geno, Simon Belmont, Buzzwole, Daisy (Echo), Full Cinematic Story Mode, Boss Rush,“Break the Targets and Board the Platforms” Maker, Event Mode, Classic Mode, 8 player smash, Home Run Contest, Multiman Smash
B: Heihachi, King K Rool, Dixie Kong(Semi Clone), Elma, Shadow(Echo), All Star Mode, Countdown, For Glory and For Fun with ranking system. Online tournament mode, Special Smash, Masterpieces
C: Bandana Dee, Chorus Kids, Donkey Kong Junior, Ninten(Echo), Multiplayer Smash Run, Stage Builder, Coin Smash, Target Smash, Smash Party, Returning all Stages
More Info:
  1. Ridley+Inklings: all of their info has been made public already
  2. Geno: A deal was made with Square Enix that they would only put in Geno if Cloud got in, hence his addition as DLC in the last game. Geno will become a newcomer in Smash Ultimate.
  3. Simon Belmont: Just as Megaman was a popular and revolutionary character on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Simon Belmont was too and joins the casts as a unique whip character,
  4. Buzzwole: Buzzwole is the first attempt at a true grappler character. In fact, his down special is vital throw and a copy of it is seen in the Mii Fighter video on the website. After every kill, Buzzwole’s kill power rises.
  5. Daisy: All changes from Peach are aesthetic and add “flower power” to her arsenal except for a all new down special, Piranha Plant. She holds out a potted plant and the Piranha Plant takes a big bite.
  6. Heihachi: Heihachi will work similarly to Ryu with special inputs and obvious combo. Instead of having heavy and weak versions of each tilt, there are low and mid attacks. Smash attacks act as high attacks. His final smash uses one of his Ten Hit Combos from Tekken Tag Team 2 and his design is based off this game also.
  7. King K Rool: King K Rool has an original and all new model for this game. His special moves are based on his boss appearances and he has costumes from each boss appearance: pirate, boxer, and mad scientists.
  8. Dixie Kong: Dixie is not an echo fighter but also not a super original character. She uses very few new hair attacks but gets all new special moves using bubble gum, a Baby Kong support and a hair twirl recovery. Her final smash is changed has he ride Rambi the Rhino across stage.
  9. Elma: This character is the one Sakurai needed a mecha rifle model for. She uses dual bladed attacks and some gun attacks with a “run and gun” playstile. Her final smash uses a Skell to unleash many laser based attacks.
  10. Shadow: Shadow runs by skating, has new taunts and new chaos energy around his attacks. He keeps all of Sonic’s moves except for his neutral b. Shadow does a chaos blast around him that is a strong kill move. His final smash is the same as Sonic’s except for it being Super Shadow.
  11. Bandana Dee: Bandana Dee is a low priority but easy pick for Ultimate. His moves would not be ground breaking but his kirby playstyle would make an easy transition to smash. If added, he will most likely be the last character developed in the main game.
  12. Chorus Kids: The Chorus Kids were not in Smash Wii U/3DS because of the hardware limitations on the 3DS. They will act like a combo of Duck Hunt Dog and Rosalina and Luma. You can control all three at once with no delay and they work in tandem but they can be seperate. There is still doubts on making them work as a concept especially with the existence of 8 player smash. Efforts will be made to attempt to make them work but there is still a decent chance they will be left behind in development again.
  13. Donkey Kong Junior: Many characters represent classic Nintendo peripherals. Duck Hunt, Mr Game & Watch, Wii Fit Trainer and R.O.B. all fit into this category and they may be joined by a character representing arcade games by Nintendo. Donkey Kong Junior would have references from all of the Nintendo arcade games and many of the console spin offs of these games in his arsenal. He even holds up a sign from Donkey Kong Junior Math for his taunt. His logo is separate from other DK characters being a pixelated and blocky version of the letters DK from the start of the Donkey Kong arcade game.
  14. Full Cinematic Adventure Mode: Subspace Emissary is getting an all new sequel. At launch, only Part 1 of 3 will be out. Part 1 will have the basic opening levels and some new fun cutscenes. Part 2 will be released for free right before the release of character downloadable content and Part 3 will be released after character downloadable content having all the downloaded characters making an appearance before the finale.
  15. “Break the Targets and Board the Platforms” Maker: Smash Brother is following the success of Mario Maker with this new mode. Players will be able to make their own target tests and board the platforms challenges and share them online. The customization takes inspiration from the previous stage builder mode but also adds the ability to carefully place items, new hazards based on Nintendo games and even some enemies for players to deal with. At launch, there will be a default built stage for every character showing players how creative they can be with the system.
  16. Countdown Mode: A new mode, similar to classic mode, where you play as each individual character in an event tailored to their abilities. When that event is completed, you move on to the next character in number order. (ex. Mario -> Donkey Kong -> Link) This game mode is meant to be difficult but give new players a chance to test their abilities with the entire roster.
  17. Smash Party: This new mode drops players into a RPG world were they will move from level to level completing challenges, defeating bosses, collecting items, leveling up, growing stronger, gaining party members and saving the smash universe. Each fight is done in the usual smash style but players move around from space to space in a board game style. This mode has a very basic but fun story. Each and every playthrough has random elements with new challenges around the corner.
  18. Returning all Stages: There is a small chance that all stages in smash history will be available at launch. It is more likely that popular stages will be saved for paid downloadable content or free updates.
  19. Downloadable Content: This game is the very first smash to have downloadable content in mind while developing the game for launch. In the project plan, it is acknowledged that a lot of content is being packed in too this cartridge so, content that would usually be left on the cutting room floor, will most likely be saved and made available for downloadable content.
Seems interesting, but is really just the same old stuff. A fully cinematic story mode alongside this roster would be great, but it's unlikely
1 day, get the direct tomorrow. This has happened before, Nintendo had a Direct in January and announced it the day off. This is what you will be seeing.
> Funko Pops releasing Fall 2018
> New Super Mario World isn't happening, it's a NEW 2D Mario Game
> Mario Maker Switch, holiday 2018
> Mario Odyssey DLC, October
> MK8D DLC, August-September
> Mother Trilogy coming 2019
> Morta Combat X 2019, Fallout 4 holiday 2018, and Dark Souls August 24
> Minecraft Mash Up pack, after Direct
> Star Fox Racing isn't happening
> Mega man 11, October 2
> Pokemon Let's Go, November 16
> FE:TH trailer, Spring 2019
> Kirby Star Allies Dream friends release
> No Final Fantasy 7, not even planned for Switch
> Cuphead, holiday 2018
> No Sonic Mania trailer
> King K. Rool and Dixie trailer, Smash releasing December 7th 2018

Tick tock. Also, the direct announced the day of was a Nintendo Direct MINI, not an actual one.
Mario Kart will receive a series of minor updates similar to Champion Link mostly as cross-promos with Kirby Star Allies, Mario Odyessy, and Splatoon 2, and two major ones

The first is an Expansion Sized DLC called "Super 9" which is basically a fully Mario Kart game in and of itself, but sandwiched onto Mario Kart 8 Deluxe... it has 6 Cups and a whopping 30 characters

Fire Mario
Ice Luigi
Kitsune Luigi
Donkey Kong Jr.
Diddy Kong
Birdo
Petey Pihrana
King K.Rool
Dixie Kong
Funky Kong
Cranky Kong
King Dedede
Boomerang Peach
Baby Wario
Baby DK
Hammer Bros.
ROB
Dr. Mario
Nurse Peach
Captain Toad
Kamek

Are the only characters I know for it, there are 8 more I don't know about

The second is the "Smashing Update" which adds amiibo support for various new amiibos featured in Smash and just the ones over the years in addition to free Mii Costumes like Tanooki Suit, Kitsune Suit

The Amiibo Support will include (in addition to Smash Newcomers like Ridley, Inkling, Geno, K.Rool, and Dark Samus), Bayonetta, Koopa, Snake, Dr. Mario, Daisy, Waluigi, Chibi Robo, Midna, Shovel Knight, Plague Knight, Spectre Knight, Falco, Wolf, Little Mac, Solaire, Felyne, Dark Pit, Marth, Lucina, Robin, Corrin, Roy, The Echos Characters, Shulk, Pit, Duck Hunt, and Ice Climbers

As for Smash, Sakurai was lying about the small number of newcomers to discredit leaks. You will see an EXPLOSION of reveals from now and december

The Retro and WTF characters btw are

Retro - Donkey Kong Jr. (summons Arcade Graphics similar to Duck Hunt's Wild Gunman summons, Up B is Swinging on the vines)

WTF - Chibi Robo

Both of these will be revealed post-launch

Beyond that I can say that

K.Rool, Dixie, Chrom, Elma, Simon (w/ Trevor as an Alph style alt) and Geno will all be shown very soon

Followed by Ashley, Bandana Dee, Ninten, Rex, and Dark Samus in September

A Special Surprise Update is planned for the game on January 19th, 2019

An extension/piggyback of the previous Mario Kart 8 DX Expansion "leak." Kind of boring.

That's all I've got.

Here's a new question.

Which newcomer has the best render?

Daisy, by virtue of her similarities to Peach (who has great detail herself).

The Icies. Seriously, those darned mittens.

Toon Link's face is even more toon-like than before, if that's possible.

Because everyone know "realistic" means Brown Tones, right?

Seriously, that was the worst part of the late Sixth/early Seventh gaming generation.
Mushroomy Kingdom must have been a tongue-in-cheek jab towards that.

Holy ****! Leak 1 is a dream come true (especially since it’s actually true to Elma’s fighting style this time!) but the DLC thing is something I have my doubts on, especially this early in planning

God I want it so badly tho, and I think I can get behind DK Jr. too

only thing it’s missing is Chrom but since he’s highly requested I can see him as DLC along with Rex/Pyra and an ARMS character

I'd be fine with it, since her debut game was on the DS, and the DS could use more representation.

The fact that I'm a cat person has nothing to do with it, I swear.
Cool, and you actually brought up a good reason too, the DS could use some rep.

Despite being a dog person, I'm actually quite fond of cats (animals in general), and vice versa, I have my friend to thank of that.

It'd be rather unexpected seeing her get in over other possible Sonic reps, but she'd have a pretty cool moveset and it'd be nice seeing an unexpected Sonic character get a turn in the spotlight.
At the very least since Laura Bailey voices both Lucina and Blaze, they could save time with voicing.

Considering how long Smash has been in development and how close it is to release; I actually think there's a good chance they'll be starting (strong emphasis here) to think about DLC at this point, like, working out who they're going to do first, but not actually getting started on it.

Plus if the base roster is mostly dictated by popularity, the DLC would be an effective way for Nintendo to still promote things, particularly given the turnaround is much quicker than when you have to wait for the base game to launch and suddenly the character you're promoting had their title the previous year. And even better for the consumers who don't much care for promotional inclusions, they need not partake.
Now you mentioned it, I wonder how a hypothetical focus on promotion would affect Rex's chance of being DLC, given there is a possibility a new Xenoblade game could be announced some time post-release around 2019. It's certainly a plausible scenario, since Koh Kojima has expressed an interest in a Xenoblade X sequel as well as Xenoblade 3.

Saying something to the effect of it being the best timeline.

As for Chibi-Robo in the third leak:

O O F

considering his previous game (which may also be his last game) didn’t sell well, I don’t really see him happening, which is a shame...

On a side note, how likely do y’all think Donkey Kong Jr. is for the retro/somewhat WTF pick, since two leaks mentioned him?

The way that the leak mentioned DLC made some sense. Aspects that don't make it into the base game are made as DLC to be released shortly after the game releases.

So any headway for the 22nd or no?
Just so everyone knows, there are other "leaks" that give dates between the 22nd and 27th as well, so we're not out of the ballpark yet. After that there are late July and early August Direct "leaks," and they go as far as September and October.

Isn't this fun?

You know, I think the introduction of Echo Fighters is highly ironic. With DLC a thing, this Smash Game should be the one where there are little to no new (last minute) clones.

...Which might actually be the point.
Isn't this fun?
The most fun. Har har har...

I also believe that the Switch will just have one Smash. As per tradition, there's only ever been one major installment per console, something that not even Mario has adhered to.
Mario obeys nobody and shall put in as many main games on a console as possible.
Sounds about right, it is still nice to talk about something else besides fake leaks.
True
Just so everyone knows, there are other "leaks" that give dates between the 22nd and 27th as well, so we're not out of the ballpark yet. After that there are late July and early August Direct "leaks," and they go as far as September and October.

Isn't this fun?
It’d be fun if Viridi and Captain Toad were leaked out and confirmed for Smash Ultimate by The Regginator
Here's a new question.

Which newcomer has the best render?

Which veteran that was previously cut at one point has the best render?

Which veteran that was never cut has the best render?
:ultridley: for newcomer
:ultwolf: for cut veteran
:ultpit:/:ultsonic: for vet who never left

I really like the idea behind the Full Cinematic Story Mode in Leak 1. Releasing the story segments episodically would get rid of the worry of a full story mode taking away focus from other aspects of the base game. The episodes also allow for later developed characters like low-priority and DLC to have roles too. This would be a dream come true: a full story mode that doesn't ruin every other part of the game and can be as good as it wants to be without time restrictions.

If somehow Leak 1 is true, I can die a happy man because that sounds absolutely amazing! I'm not gonna get my hopes up though, because a leak that detailed is either completely true, or a total fake.

You know, I think the introduction of Echo Fighters is highly ironic. With DLC a thing, this Smash Game should be the one where there are little to no new (last minute) clones.

...Which might actually be the point.

The most fun. Har har har...
I think it's ironic that they may be adding clones to ostensibly pad the roster while using a primary counting system that excludes those very characters.

As for Chibi-Robo in the second leak:

O O F

considering his previous game (which may also be his last game) didn’t sell well, I don’t really see him happening, which is a shame...

On a side note, how likely do y’all think Donkey Kong Jr. is for the retro/somewhat WTF pick, since all three leaks mentioned him?
Around 30-40%. It's a bit iffy that he might get in, between the likelihood of Dixie/K. Rool having priority and Sakurai possibly showing interest in retro picks he previously couldn't integrate.

If they're not worth adding to Smash as a unique character, maybe they really shouldn't have been added to begin with, lol.

Now it's not "I want X character because I like them." it's become "I want X character as an overglorified alternate costume to pad out the roster."

Now we have copy-paste clones planned since the beginning of development so they don't even have the excuse of being last-minute """"bonuses"""".

:ultsnake:Smash has changed...
Closing my eyes to the sound of gunfire
Uttering a howl
In a flash I am switched into despair
Everything for the one who lives inside a nightmare
Missing you from the bottom of my heart

Wishing for the world that ran out of tears
My heart is already dead
The hope
Missing you so much it hurts

We had veteran reveals. Sonic was revealed to return in October.

We had about 90% of the roster revealed a month ago and we've received no new information since then besides some ****ing bangers.

This isn't just Smash Bros. Speculation.

This is...EXTREME SMASH BROS. SPECULATION.

Kinda still messed up that tag there buddy. But yes, I'll take any new thing from the Yoshi series that I can get as it seems to go by the wayside each succeeding entry. I guess other franchises are like that.
Here's a new question.

Which newcomer has the best render?

Which veteran that was previously cut at one point has the best render?

Which veteran that was never cut has the best render?

Lol it's been a month, this is a breeze compared to the post E3 06 Brawl drought. Or Smash 4 circa E3 2011-E3 2013.
