I don't think a reboot has to necessarily be better (which is entirely subjective anyway) as long as it's different. I would certainly hope they don't reboot Smash Bros. to be the exact same thing it's always been with a new aesthetic. If they're going to reboot the series, which I think they will, I think it'll be with a new gameplay style. That's what I'm interested in.

Honestly, the only reason I'm really interested in this game is because I finally got my boy in it. It's cool to see how it plays a little closer to Melee and hopefully it'll trend further that direction toward development (offensive and speed-wise, not tech other than wavelanding), but I played the everloving **** out of Project M and I'm a little worn out on the Smash formula. I would much rather see a new style, like traditional fighter or 3D arena combat or something else than the same thing with more characters again and again and again and again until the sun explodes.

If you want an arena game, there's Jump Force for that. I really don't want to see Smash be some cinematic button masher like the Naruto games have been for the past 20 installments.
And if you want a 2D fighter, a ton of those already exist and continue to be made. Smash is the only game that does what it does well, the next closest managing only to be a bald-faced imitation. Having it be a 2D fighter would be losing one of the best and most unique fighting games out there, causing essentially the death of its subgenre, to add to an already overpopulated other subgenre and likely fail to be as as good as the more-established series that already exist. My recommendation is that you just play more fighting games that aren't Smash.

That said, I'm certainly not opposed to a Nintendo crossover 2D fighter, but killing off what Smash currently is to make it would be absurd. I think it would be much better to have something like Nintendo vs Capcom since "Marvel vs" clearly isn't working out anymore. That way Capcom can use their people who are much more experienced with that genre and Capcom characters aren't competing for the same roster spots that Nintendo characters are.

Not saying they are important but keeping a downsized reboot roster in mind, I feel those 3 are up to be cut until later sequels.

Like the reason i'm not saying villager is because in a reboot I could see Isabelle taking the Animal Crossing slot.

Fox? Star Fox isn't too hot right now, it's future is very volatile. Actually, not to rip on it, but its sales performance looks pretty garbage to me. If we had a straight reboot that consisted of relevant and well-performing franchises, I would not expect Fox tbh. At least right now, Star Fox is a mainstay for Smash Bros, but it has seriously declined since 64.

I know Fox makes sense for him and his series' legacy in Smash, but if there was a reboot that was a completely new, fresh start, I don't feel so good about Fox.

Star Fox was a split for me. On one hand, it’s near death. In the other hand, it has a legacy with a history of good games.

I suppose I should of mentioned that the character picks I put up were based on a base veteran downsized roster for a reboot with potential previous veterans returning in reboot sequels....

That said, I'd honestly prioritize orfirst. would be worth considering, too, imo.

Similar to my list, but swap out Pit for Mega Man or Fox depending on if either of those series are bigger than Kid Icarus at the time of the release. Both Star Fox and Mega Man have been on a decline so perhaps it's even best for an entirely new series to be represented instead. Maybe if a new IP is a big hit...
Limited to 12 is difficult and would force me to cut my boy Yoshi because I'd want to represent as many series as possible. Yoshi has his own series, but there's so much overlap between the Yoshi and Mario series that I think I'd have to make the cut.

...wait. Considering how big Xenoblade has gotten lately, Shulk might be the best pick over Pit.
But really, we need more than 12. This is too difficult.

Banjo-Kazooie - Banjo Kazooie will probably make it in BUT his moveset will not take inspiration from his games for his special moves, instead will represent Rare (akin to Pac-Man) Xbox is on GREAT terms with Nintendo (Cross-Play on multiple games, Xbox CEO is totally ok with Banjo’s inclusion)

THE FLAW - Steve from Minecraft is also an Xbox character and without a doubt more popular than Banjo, possible that Steve would take priority?

THE REBUTTAL - Many people want Banjo in, and he has the ballot to help him out. Also Steve may not be possible licensing wise.

King K. Rool - Will be titled the ballot winner/top contender in America and get in as a result

THE FLAW - Mii Fighter costume in Smash 4 may tell us that Sakurai is not interested in making K. Rool a character
THE REBUTTAL - He also wasn’t too keen on making Mii’s, Pac-Man and the Villager into fighters, and they ended up making it in.

THE FLAW - Might be too late for Gen 7 reps.

THE REBUTTAL - Gen 7 Pokemon are poke ball pokemon already, so this is definitely not the case.

Gengar - most popular Gen 1 pokemon not yet represented in Smash Ultimate, is relevant thanks to Pokken Tournament DX, Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let’s Go


THE FLAW - Oversaturation of Gen 1 pokemon, might not offer enough new things

THE REBUTTAL - Gen 1 is the most popular group of Pokémon. Extremely popular and relevant, especially now. Would be dumb to not promote Let’s Go. Gengar is a ghost type, could be somewhat of a trickster, final smash could be his Mega Form, or his super attack from Pokken


Steve/Alex from Minecraft - Huge gaming icon now, Minecraft is popular on Nintendo systems and has a switch version release coming soon


THE FLAW - People would not be happy with his inclusion


THE REBUTTAL - It would be stupid to not include him. It would attract an insane amount of people to Smash Bros (and maybe even Nintendo in general) would legitimately be ticked if he didn’t get in
