Also on the subject of a reboot: Hot take but until they actually have a good enough idea to top Ultimate (which could be never), I think a reboot's a terrible idea for a long long time, if ever.

Fox? Star Fox isn't too hot right now, it's future is very volatile. Actually, not to rip on it, but its sales performance looks pretty garbage to me. If we had a straight reboot that consisted of relevant and well-performing franchises, I would not expect Fox tbh. At least right now, Star Fox is a mainstay for Smash Bros, but it has seriously declined since 64.If we get a reboot 10 or 15 years down the road, here’s who I would expect to return.
Everyone else is chopping block material imo.
I know Fox makes sense for him and his series' legacy in Smash, but if there was a reboot that was a completely new, fresh start, I don't feel so good about Fox.

I'd really be excited to play as Dark Samus IF and this is a really big IF here, she isn't an exact clone
I'd really love if Simon made it in, but I have to hope that they don't give him one of his awful designs.

I don't think a reboot has to necessarily be better (which is entirely subjective anyway) as long as it's different. I would certainly hope they don't reboot Smash Bros. to be the exact same thing it's always been with a new aesthetic. If they're going to reboot the series, which I think they will, I think it'll be with a new gameplay style. That's what I'm interested in.
Honestly, the only reason I'm really interested in this game is because I finally got my boy in it. It's cool to see how it plays a little closer to Melee and hopefully it'll trend further that direction toward development (offensive and speed-wise, not tech other than wavelanding), but I played the everloving **** out of Project M and I'm a little worn out on the Smash formula. I would much rather see a new style, like traditional fighter or 3D arena combat or something else than the same thing with more characters again and again and again and again until the sun explodes.

Star Fox has a strong history, and it's still relevant. The series has had two (technically three) releases within the past three years, and is crossing over into another series with another company. Miyamoto also claimed that he'll be putting forth more effort into the series going forward, so it isn't dead.
Sales as of late have been lackluster, true. Zero's problems were that it had forced controls, and that it was released on a dying console at the end of it's life cycle. I've no doubt that if they had help off Zero until the Switch for a launch title, with non-gamepad controls, it would've sold very well. I consider Zero a victim of circumstance.
If there was a completely new, fresh start reboot of the Smash series, there's no doubt in my mind we'd see Fox return.

I'm ever-so-slightly upset that Lycanroc is the only popular Gen VII you didn't list, but I guess I'll answer the question anyway.
If Paper Mario, Dixie, a Champion, Bandana Dee, or Spring Man were revealed, I'd jump out of my seat and dance around like an idiot.
If Captain Toad, K. Rool, Incineroar, Ashley, or Dillon were revealed, I'd smile and grin for the entire video.
If Skull Kid, Decidueye, Mimikyu, Elma, Rex/Pyra, or Wonder Red were revealed, I'd be a little disappointed, but content.
The rest? Either I wouldn't care at all, or I'd be genuinely upset that character got in Smash.

If they ever do a Smash "Reboot" of sorts, I would honestly really hope if Capcom were the ones to do it. They've so far made some of my favorite competitive games throughout the years and if they could inject that into Smash, I'd just love that.

I feel like we're somewhat saying the same things but differently. Regardless, the best move (in many ways) is to just keep building on Smash Ultimate and, if they do a reboot that doesn't build on any of the engines of the previous games, I absolutely agree that it needs something different.
That thing about it being different though is honestly something that we don't even have a proper answer to. Like, how will it be different? How should it be different? A ton of other questions I could ask that, quite frankly, nobody has the answer to currently.

Researching about Nintendo SPD Group 1 (The developers behind all of the WarioWare and Rhythm Heaven titles), it does feel kind of depressing that their games are barely represented in Smash 4 outside of Wario, a few Assist Trophies and a couple of awesome stages like Game and Wario and WarioWare Inc. I would imagine Group 1 in particular were extremely thrilled about a character from one of their titles finally getting representation (Chorus Kids going by the Gematsu leak) in Smash 4's planning phase, and the Rhythm Heaven representation they get in Smash 4 is minimal. These developers have made some pretty awesome titles over the years like every RH title, Warioware D.I.Y., and WarioWare Twisted. It kind of depresses me to the point where I could see Sakurai making up to the SPD Group 1 team by not only adding Chorus Kids, but also add Ashley as well. It feels like all that SPD1 could do to survive now going forward is push for Ashley via merchandise and advertising in Japan and hoping that their 3DS compilation title (WarioWare Gold) succeeds to push the team to create more inventive games in future Nintendo platforms. SPD Group 1 has so much creative potential, and I would hate to see them die out so soon.
What I say probably will not reflect my final thoughts on promotional characters like Ashley, Dee, and Isabelle, but I thought this bit on SPD would be interesting to mention.

Imperial Tower would be a funny stage imagine your singing the lyrics to Faded World while fighting next thing you know,
The lyrics get literal ("The Sun is falling in the sky beyond") and the stage hazard is the freaking Sun breaking through the sky and slowly dropping down on the stage to obliterate everyone's existence with an instakill, and you have to fight for the only teleport pod left ala Norfair stage. Have fun fighting for survival (especially if its 8 player Smash).
