can we pull some strings to set up an ad somewhere? maybe even a global announcement lol
That's possibly the easiest way to go to advertise Smash 64. The question is, will the smashboards staff allow it? I was also thinking of maybe having some videos showcasing smash 64 combo's and stuff in the advertising as well. All we need is quality recordings and someone who is decent with video editing. Though, once again, the whole online vs offline thing rears its ugly head once again. How are some members going to react with "fake online smash combos" in the video?

...or i'm just overthinking about the online smash thing. either way, we need videos!

You're just overthinking the online thing.

It's not like there's some big enmity between Online and Offline players. Isai just emphasizes how fake online is on youtube so that nubs will understand not to critique his 7-frame skill or whatever.

I think if the backroom is made, it should include:
A. The top players of each Char
B. The Top Online players of each Char
C. Very active knowledgeable people.
D. The Mods, to prevent massive spam.

That's a bad idea. A and B would consist of Isai 12 times and Malva 12 times. C is good, obviously, but kinda open to interpretation, and as for D, well, all the mods? I mean, that's three people right there, what with how small our community is... Obviously there should be a mod presence, but like half of the BR is gonna be taken up by mods if we implement that. I say we let the mods get in on their own merits, because at least one of them will, right?

+1

Although I don't think how active a person is very important at all. Even if a person very rarely contributes, they should still be let in if their rare excellent input is valuable.

Of course, I'm still against the idea of a backroom altogether.

According to Surri, backroom members will be expected to contribute to most topics, and those who don't will be booted. Another reason why a backroom is a bad idea.

What? So guys like Zenyore and Frogles are out just because they only show up once in a while?

That's silly. I'm now 117.63% against a Backroom

I never said they had to be active i said they had to post intelligently and respectfully...
Strange, I could have SWORN that you did, I remember because I was annoyed by it. When I saw you saying you never said that, I searched your name in the backroom discussion threads, expecting to find the quote easily, but I couldn't... Maybe it was somebody else.

EDIT: Because I'm curious now, can anybody confirm what the policies for inactive posters in either the Melee or Brawl BRs are? (don't know of any active 64 poster that was ever in a backroom, but meh w/e)

naw, ive said things about having to follow rules and such...but "activity" has never even been touched on by me...and its true...we have some valuable members who are not active, they should be able to contribute to the BR when possible because of that fact.

i'm pretty sure you can get kicked out for being inactive. i remember seeing a quote of a message you get when you get kicked out and it thanks you for your past contributions etc.

Tbh I think we should get the backroom, its not where losing something or anything. We might as well get it now while we have a chance. Who knows we might not get this opportunity later.

No. We'd be losing all sorts of things, starting with a unified and cohesive community. Lol @ "While we have the chance"; If we don't need it, we don't need it; it's not something we'll develop a need for unless our community grows in size, in which case we'll have more pull and it'll be easy to get.

losing a unified and cohesive community? it's not like everyone in the backroom will suddenly refuse to answer non-backroomer questions, and non-backroomers will suddenly shun the backroomers because of that label

if that does happen its likely be because certain people who were against the backroom just want to be 'right all along' and that'll be a self-fulfilled prophecy

while i can't give you evidence that this will raise awareness of 64's competitive nature, you can't give evidence that this will suddenly crush our unity. i would instead argue that members of a small community is more aware of each others' strengths etc etc

see what I mean, we can argue forever, but nothing will happen. this entire motion occurred because we have a problem: not enough people recognise smash 64's competitive value, and we can either remain in languor or do something, anything

my actual point is: arguing like this is pointless, we have to do something before anything happens, it's not as if removing the backroom (if it really does get out of hand) is an impossibility

You're acting as if I used the words "suddenly" and "completely". I am fully aware that any changes the BR brings about will be limited and gradual. Doing "something, anything" is a bad idea because it's not like we have nothing to lose; we have a kinda nice setup here, and while saying that it would be crippled or destroyed by a BR is exaggeration, a BR will piss me and others off and make the discussions less awesome (again, to a relatively small degree). And removing the BR, if it's bad, would take a while, be a hassle, and we'd have to overcome the inertia of the status quo.

Yeah, arguing like this is fairly pointless (not that I don't enjoy it). So let's stop. See if you can let me have the last word. I bet you can't. I bet you can't.

I will nominate the three mods to run the BR. There's a reason why we're mods ;)
Well, while I don't necessarily disagree with the specifics of this, all in all I think that blah de blah de fair and balanced blah de blah clean slate blah blah *KAFF* notsurripleasegodno*KAFF* excuse me, and furthermore it seems to me that your insinuations about autistic children are entirely unfounded.

I think what would work the best is to have a backroom where only br members could post, but all members could look at the posts. That way knowledge is shared among the 64 community but only those that are known to have sufficient knowledge/skill can contribute

Actually, if you read what MLV_JV said to BattleCow, you'd see that idea has been tried and failed...thus why we are not doing it now.

Seems like something the public couldn't accept...see but dont touch is a hard rule to enforce ...

I dont know exactly but, if MLG_JV wouldn't mind telling us I would like to hear it as well

Why did people even hope that it would be publicly viewable, when the Melee and Brawl ones aren't? Unfounded optimism only leads down a path of disappointment.

If we only get the new "rules" thrown at us and cant watch the discussion behind it, then its seriously no point to have a BR.
