how come i never see anyone actually incorporate shield dropping into their game play yet, even best players in melee. Everyone has to know by now its going to be new meta game material. right?

Hopefully. But it's hard to incorporate consistently (for me, anyways).

Cause its hard to do, I do every now and again but most of the time I just end up angling my shield down.

top players only incorperate things that they can do consistently, if they cant then that is too big a risk

Also its just hard to notice i've seen axe and lovage do it a lot. Its really easy to miss the sexiest things are the ones that people don't even realize happen

Yeah it's definitely some 2012 ****. It's way too useful to not use. I think at the highest level of play it's absolutely necessary to try and get it down consistently.

There's one vid somewhere of mango shield dropping to a platform cancelled bair with falco... which was used for shield pressure iirc.

I use it with 99% accuracy (when warmed up) and I actually use it when getting hit (as a mean to escape) unlike Lovage, Axe, Calle W etc. Maybe its because Yoshi REALLY needs it (no jump oos) but it is very helpful on every character.

Most people Isai drop because it's substantially easier to be consistent with and only a few frames slower.

Other than myself, I've only seen Leffen use standing shield drops. I've only seen Axe and Lovage use shield drops out of dashes, which is a lot easier and less risky.

Both Leffen and Calle W use it kinda often, just saying =)

Some chars have a lot of better options with shield droping then others too. Guess I should try to use it with Peach more.

I think Massive meant that some people let their shield go when they're shielding on a platform, and then do an Isai drop.
That doesn't work. If you drop your shield, you don't have landing lag so Isai dropping (walking forward before the drop through) is pointless. Dropping your shield also takes a lot longer than 2 frames.

Not at all, I meant that for most people, the 3 frame difference you get from doing an Isai drop after L-cancelling an aerial (which is what these drops are mostly used for) is less risky than accidentally spotdodging if one holds shield too long.

If you can shield drop with consistency, by all means DO IT, it is the superior technique. I was just stating that the reason you don't see it more is that Isai dropping is loads easier/safer if you aren't some type of 1 frame input savant.

Thank you Based Mimi.
There seems to be a new shield dropping thread every other day :p.

I've been trying to work it into my game too, but I still suck at it.

One of the coolest things I have ever done used a standing shield drop.

Let me paint a picture.

I had just done this massive combo on a Ganon as Marth. I'm on Battlefield's left platform and he is above me, about to drop down with a fair. I shield to bait the fair, but shield drop at the very last second out of harms way. I then fastfall, waveland, dash forward, and pivot a tipper for the KO.

So good.

(of course it wasn't recorded...*sigh*)

lmao that reminds me of HAVING to pop the balloon and ALWAYS platformcanceling in brawl on smashville xD

I've been practicing it, and it gets realllly easy. Just think of it as a mid-speed diagonal movement. Between a dash and starting a walk.

I remember that set. First match, G missed two or three good punishes. Shield drop opportunities to change the match were visible too. Metagame change in 2012, on it's way.

December 21 of 2012: Mango and Armada learned to shield drop efficiently, and meet again for the final confrontation.

The world collapses because of a too important concentration of awesomeness in a set.

God, why didn't they make spot-dodging R + B or something so that shield-dropping isn't unnecessarily technical? SAKURAAAAAAAI!

How do you do it standing and is this different from how you do it when someone attacks you while shielding on the platform?

Dash shielddropping is what you see used most often by technical players, its a lot more consistent, though not as useful (timing is more restrictive and situational)
