You may be surprised to know that the Disney Aladdin cartoon introduced a female genie of it's own. Her name is Eden.

She's just as good as Genie when it comes to bending wish rules for her friend's benefits. I do remember watching an episode with her when I was very little, though not in great detail. Also don't forget Jafar was turned into one, and makes liberal use of bending the rules in his favour during the sequel.

As far as genies in gaming franchises featured in Smash go, Mario and more notably it's spin-offs have a number of them. Mario Party 4 (and 3 I think) have genie lamps you can buy that let you warp right to the star, Diddy Kong Racing has the ever-helpful Taj changing your vehicles in the overworld and giving you balloons with great fanfare for every won race, and the first Wario Land has one summoned by Captain Syrup as the final boss.

Pokemon has the mythical Gen 6 Hoopa, who generally lives in a sealed state due to it's "Unbound" form causing havoc with it's immense dimension-warping powers; in actual literature, genies sealed in lamps or other containers were actually criminals among them, or forced into them by crafty humans.

This segues nicely into Sonic & The Secret Rings's Erazor Djinn. Being sealed in his lamp for his crimes against humanity and granting the wishes of 1000 of them did nothing to abate his hatred. Our good genie of the day (and the ring of all things), Shahra, recruits Sonic to help stop him.

Looking at her more closely, even considering all the traits standard for female genies (including bedlah pants when she decides to "walk"), the ressemblance between her and Shantae is uncanny. Especially the way their hair looks in front.

She's also got me thinking about what Shantae's mother's personality will be like. Based on Risky's comments it's safe to assume it's pretty close to her daughter's, just naturally older and wiser, with her "silliness" showing in her being somewhat out of touch with how mortals live since the departure of genies.

Eden is also named after the actor Barbara Eden, who played... get this... Jeannie from I Dream Of Jeannie. Eden the genie even references this with the quote "2000 years in that bottle, I'd better be a genie!".

Look man, we can't have a fully powered genie lying around all the time for people to potentially make wishes on to break plots, OK? Besides, I think someone who's lived for at least TEN THOUSAND YEEEAARRRS has ample patience.

Basically, if the Buena Vista branch is involved with anything, they don't give two ****s about it. Just ask anyone who followed the DVD releases of Disney Afternoon shows. Some are lucky to even have 3/4ths of their series covered.

Having played her first two games, I'd be down to see her be playable. I think she'd make for a cool fighter. Not to mention tracks like Burning Town and the Boss theme.

Question is, will she have her traditional moveset from the first game on the GBC or sakurai will find a way to incorporate all of her history by putting his own spin.

But whatever happens, don't go on fire if she doesn't become a fighter in the end of Fighters Pass DLC. Don't want to put a sour note.

I can't look at an orange sky now without imagining the day it fell away... and even the spirit selection team was at least somewhat aware of the Shantae series sharing a similar light/dark setting to World Of Light. I wonder, if the people at Wayforward were big enough fans of Smash to have enemies in Half-Genie Hero be KOed flying offscreen in a similar matter, will Shantae 5 also reference Ultimate in some way?

Frankly, when it comes to transformations, the original 4 are the only ones providing fighter material. The rest introduced later are too specific, esoteric or just plain don't translate well enough to smashing. The only real question is if her human self will fight solely with magic or mix pirate gear in there.

I'm hardly the type to get pissed if I don't get a character in Smash. Mild Disappointment at worst.

I'd think she'd probably take from multiple games. But Primarily from the games where she has her powers rather than the Pirate tech she used in the third game.

Dunno when we'll see anything from Shantae 5 but it just feels like every game I want comes out later in the year.

Usually its on a Wednesday if Nintendo does show an announcement a Day or two before. If not, maybe at the fourth week of April. We can only guess and speculate with the end of April coming closer every day.

Also, Mario Tennis Aces had its intro Changed with Version 3.0 updating the game. Not having to sound too important to another subject at hand.

I say we'll get a direct next Thursday the 25th because Atlus has news about Persona 5 S coming on the 25th which is probably the announcement of the switch version of Persona 5 and they'll probably showcase joker's smash bros gameplay at the same time in the direct.

If you're right about the date of the next Direct there as you said, than I believe they might give Joker most of the attention in that Direct. Which, probably proves my theory correct about us not getting the 2nd character revealed and released until E3.
