I bought Sonic 4 last night and played through the first 2 stages. Splash Hill Zone was pretty easy, but Casino Street Zone acts 2 and 3 were a pain. I kept dying about 4 to 5 times in act 2 (i think that's the right act) because I keep screwing up my jumps on the playing cards. It's just nice playing the very first boss from Sonic 1 again in Sonic 4.

Also Sonic in the driver seat of The Deuce bus (our double decker) and at the door of our Rapid Transit Bus (formally known as ACE) was pretty much two things I love, Sonic and buses.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the game. It was too easy minus the final boss, but then again, so was S3&K and S2.

Sonic 4.... I think i'm just used to paying Sega to take a dump on my chest at this point. At least this time it didn't cost as much as usual, and the ****ting was much less time consuming.

So Sonic 4 wasn't god's gift to the world.

It was still fun. Plus Metacritic (Site that takes the averages of all scores) gave it an 84/100. It's getting a lot of praise, and there are only a couple of faults with it.

The only ones calling it the worst game ever, or a piece of ****, are, SUPRISE.

Sonic fans, who expect the best game in the world to STOP trash talking Sega. Too high expectations. The point of playing a video game is to have fun anyways.

It took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to bet KID. That's included with the final boss taking me 10 tries to figure out how to hurt him in the second form. :bee:

I can give a slew of reasons why sonic 4 is an unacceptable game. You would get bored reading after a couple pages though so I won't.

What I will say is this. Sega does not understand what makes a video game "fun". They only understand how to create a product that will make money.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/12/sega-looking-to-improve-sonic-strategy-reducing-supply-of-old/

They are spending too much time and money on market research, advertising and publicity to create a quality game. Why make a good product when you can make more money by selling a mediocre one?

same can be said about competitive brawl imo. The fruits of hal. laboratories labors spawned our current competitive community. Would you consider that fun?
aka metaknight

alot of game studios just lack the passion they had 10 years ago.

Agreed, competitive brawl is very fun. There are still a few games and companies out there that make fun products. Sega is sadly no longer one of them.

I guess its just sonic team. Its not Sega isn't making other good non-sonic games. Pretty much everything else published by sega recently has been good.

guys i got 360 version and it *****, sound legit, visuals are stunning for a 2d sonic game and the gameplay is old schooled while still offering fresh stuff. Nothing wrong with the physics. I'm really enjoying it, and this is coming from someone who grew up with a Genesis. Wii version is just trash because it got nerfed to save space i guess, don't judge this game until you played other version. I haven't had this much fun since the last time i played sonic 3 and knuckles! They could of done more with this game like at least have Tails / multiplayer but this isn't bad for their first shot at going back to the roots. This is actually one of my favorite Sonic games now. I think Sega ****ed up by releasing a watered down version on iphone and wii, they obsly just did it for the money... im sure if it was just on 360 and ps3 this game would be getting praised.

yeah but there was a lot of people *****ing about sound quality, graphics being ugly, bad physics, ect.

there are no problems like these on 360 version. I heard wii had to use more midish sound and nerf the graphics because of memory. This is not the case in 360 version.

I saw a playthrough of the 360 build just now, and yeah, the graphics and sound are sleeker there than on the Wii.

But for some reason, I prefer the MIDI version of the first Splash Hill theme, lol

/facepalm

People will never be satisfied.

What a spoiled/cynical world we live in.
Every Sonic game that comes out gets unnecessary judgements just because of a few things here and there. Me? I love Sonic 4. Everything about it is awesome to me. :awesome:

Why were people in Manhattan going insane over a few silver ballons in the sky?
Whazzat.

I have several Chaos Chaos in my DC and GC gardens.

I think I have about 14 in the DC, and only about 5 in the GC.

I personally dislike the physics, think the songs are annoying and also think the graphics are ugly. I can get over annoying songs and graphics because those don't matter, If you pay attention however, you'll notice that every time you fall into a pit of death (which sonic 2,3 & S&K had VERY VERY few of) there is always a save totem right before it. Like the game developers knew that it would be easy to die there and instead of fixing it, they just threw up a save spot. Lazy.

i didnt notice the save totem but i did notice one ups before difficult platforming areas. You need to remember this game was meant to appeal to old and new fans, so I guess they made it challenging while at the same time fair enough for younger people to play with infinite tries. I consider myself very good at old school sonic games, and I just beat the game and i can safely say this was one of the more difficult ones. If you look past the fact you can get lives easy and there is level select this game is actually harder than Sonic 1. If it was just one play through w/o save and not as forgiving no way I could of beaten it so quickly. I applaud the challenge though, some parts even made me use my head i liked that but the final boss will most definetly frustrate newer or younger sonic fans. If you don't optimize attacking it with homing attack it can take a long time to beat. The part that...

spoilers

...I felt was uncalled for was the last thing it tries to pull on you when u must hit it or you get instant death after doing all that work fighting it.
I died 3 times when I only needed one hit to win. This game had a theme of trial and error which is common of Sonic but they took it to the extreme here. When I finally beat it I was shocked, I was expecting to die like i normally do, I honestly don't know what I did differently...

one thing i found amusing

its been 16 years and fat *** robotnik can still outrun sonic. Haha!
