Many months have passed since I have entered Veilstone. Preparations have been made in the meantime:
- The entire team has been trained to level 25, with Cassie being the exception (she'll gain the level against the trainers in the gym).
- Enough money was raised to purchase Ice Beam, which was taught to Tank. Previous damages to our relationship have been patched, I hope.
- Chichi learned Strength.
- 30 Lemonades were purchased. I've had enough battles in the past with a lack of potions that I won't let it be the reason I lose another member.
After receiving a counter app in the Veilstone Mart, It was time to take on the gym for my third badge. Cassie lead the way since every trainer only carries fighting types. While Cassie can sweep through the gym, I'm worried as hell about a Machoke or something using Counter, which would OHKO Cassie.
On the last pokemon of the last trainer, Starburst did a Psybeam to a Machoke that did half of it's life. Machoke then used Revenge. I watched Starburst's life completely dwindle before it stopped with 7 HP. I switched out to Tank, healed Cassie to full health, and switched to her to finish the battle with Wing Attack. Not a fun moment at all.
As a precaution against the upcoming battle, I switched Chichi with Stupid. Chichi would be utterly useless against the monster that is Lucario, whereas Stupid can at least get off an Ember. It also gives me a pokemon to sacrifice if it's needed, and I simply can't put any faith in a fire horse that wanders in the rain.
After healing up, it was time to take on Maylene.
I lead with Cassie against her Meditite. It went down easily from a couple Wing Attacks and she even used one of her Hyper Potions early. Machoke scared me though. One Wing Attack with a Revenge = certain death for Cassie. I tried a Quick Attack to test the waters. I was greeted with a Brick Great that nearly killed Cassie. Ouch. I switched to Starburst who finished Machoke off.
Now for Lucario. I used a turn to heal up Cassie. HP Ground might come in handy. Lucario immediately used a Metal Claw that brought Starburst from full health to the red. In the event of another Metal Claw, I decide to switch to Stupid. He may be sacrificed right here, but Starburst is a sitting duck.
Go, Stupid!
Enemy Lucario used Force Palm!
Stupid fainted!
Eff. Well, Emberly was up next. I need to get off an Ember. Lucario used Metal Claw which only did a third. The following Ember took a third as well. On attempting the second Ember-
Enemy Lucario used Force Palm!
Emberly Fainted!
In hindsight, sacrificing both of my fire types at once for a third of HP on one Pokemon has to rank up there as one of the dumbest things I've ever done in a nuzlocke challenge.
Normally, I would lead with Starburst and get a Confuse Ray out. However, Starburst was still in the red and is currently still a sitting duck. I lead with Cassie to see what HP Ground will do.
Enemy Lucario used Force Palm!
Cassie used Hidden Power!
It's super effective!
Enemy Lucario gained health from Sitrus Berry!
So the berry basically negated HP Ground. Force did a little more than a third of my health, though I could survive another. I try another HP Ground.
Enemy Lucario used Force Palm!
Cassie is paralyzed! Cassie may be unable to move!
Cassie used Hidden Power!
It's super effective!
Cassie is in the red and paralyzed. I spend the next 3 turns using Lemonades on Cassie and Starburst. What was really concerning was that Lucario used Drain Punch once, which healed him back up to 2/3'd health. I'm basically getting off a Wing Attack and healing and rotating the two over and over. But it's way too scary for Cassie. She's paralyzed and might not be able to attack. Drain Punches could occur every turn and Lucario would never die.
I switch to Starburst. After healing up Cassie, I use Confuse Ray. It works. Lucario is now in the red. I switch again to Tank to deal the finishing blow. However, Mayelen used a Hyper Potion. Lucario is fully healed. I've lost 2 members and nobody on my team can survive 3 moves in a row. It's become a war of attrition. Thank the heavens that I just bought 30 lemonades because I'm going to need them all now.
Tank did a fourth of HP worth of damage with Bubblebeam. On the second try, Tank entered the red and became paralyzed. After healing:
Enemy Lucario used Metal Claw!
It's not very effective.
Enemy Lucario's Attack Rose!
Are you kidding me? He can self heal with Drain Punch and now his attack is raised and can continue to do so? I'm in some serious trouble. Lucario can literally wipe out my whole team at this rate with a simple crit. I stick with Tank and get off another 2 bubblebeams with Lemonades mixed in. I'm fortunate enough to not have Metal Claw raise his Attack again. At last, I get Lucario back into the red.
I switch to Cassie, whose still paralyzed. Lucario gets off a Drain Punch before my Wing Attack. He has a sliver of HP left as a result. I heal up with Cassie. Lucario uses Force Palm. It does half of my life now. If I try a Wing Attack and he hits me with Force Palm, Cassie dies. Quick Attack mighttttt not kill due to him being a Steel type, so that's too risky. Cassie could also just not attack due to being paralyzed. I'm struggling to find a way to safely get off one attack.
I heal. Lucario uses Metal Claw, which only does a third of health. I go for a Quick Attack.
Cassie used Quick Attack!
Enemy Lucario Fainted!
I survive the battle losing only 2 Ponyta's. With how easily anyone on the team could have died, I'll take that. We can rebuild. Maylene gives me the TM Drain Punch. Maybe I'll use it. Outside, Dawn approaches me and says that Team Galactic took her pokedex and needs my help getting it back. B*tch, I don't care! I was still in mourning over Emberly. I released my two ponies into their graves. Megabro was recalled to the front. Tank was PISSED and had a few words for Megabro.
Clearing Team Galactic was easy enough, though I had to carry Dawn's Clefairy harder than Megafox carries anyone in doubles not named Espy.
