For those saying that there was a tourney every week.
September we had only had, No Johns Alu's Bday, and DIP.
October we're only having what Saffron and No Johns, and Tunes Biweekly.
Regardless of there being mad tournies, just attend what you can and blah.
Don't fault tourney hosts for hosting a tourney. Cuz depending on where the tourney is, you get a different crowd. Not everyone can go to Tunes/Saffron/No Johns/DIP so if they host 'em don't rage @ 'em...just don't go LOL.
This is exactly how I feel. If theres mad tournies I don't understand why people feel "pressure" to attend all of them. Just go to what you can. I would think you would feel less pressure knowing if you miss it theres another one next week instead of next month. If tristate only had 1 tournament a month and you happen to have a big test to study for that weekend (tec0) or did get sick like me crismas and others your out melee for 2 months. If it were like that i'd quit. The problem with tristate is that there just aren't that many of us period. We need new players.
And as far as getting new players having new tournaments in different parts of tristate help that. I went through all my past tournament results to look at all the players who attended Tunes whom I haven't seen before.

Those are like the first time I saw a lot of those players. Just cause I hosted my tournaments. Its way closer than anything else for people like Rin (a PA driver those are invaluable) Jflo, oh., Mr. F and his brother and others. Shoopman wasn't allowed at tournaments before he went to one of mine and now hes a pretty active memeber like jflo he went to apex probably cause of Tunes biweeklies. Having more tournaments helps the community ESP in different areas. Sure a lot of those players don't regularly come to tournaments anymore or since but, that's the real problem we need to address. If anytime a new TO opens up a tourney in a different area hes bound to get new melee players. We gotta figure out how to make them stay. Then the community will really grow. And i'm sure another TO for his tournament series could make the same argument and look through his past results and find players who really only come to his tournaments. I just used mine as an example since the results were so easily available. I do'nt even like to host. I do it under pressure from people around my area asking me a lot. Its a lot of work for no profit (unless I win). I also pay into my own tournaments (except venue fee).
I really don't know why Crismas felt so hurt and stuff. Me and alukard have both had multiple turnouts similar to that. Its just the way tristate is. I think amateur brackets the way plank is doing it for pound 4 is the best solution for making the newer players stay who give the game a shot like I listed above. Planks method is like you do pools and then whoever doesn't make it out can pay 5$ to be in the amateur bracket where only those who didn't make it out of pools can enter. That way it doesn't affect the pot for the regular bracket and still the newer players get to play amongst themselves for some extra money and that could make it more fun for them. If we don't do pools or have time you make the cut off at a certain placing on the bracket for the 5$ buy back in.
If you do it the other way the people who are pros get screwed in pot size and won't come as often. this makes less exciting finals to watch for new players and just less hype. If you do it planks way the amateurs have to pay 5$ extra but from what I hear after tournaments newer players are always like.. **** i got ***** by 2 good players I wish I coulda played "X" or "y" player x or y being a player who is also pretty new around their same skill level. And this way they can play those people in tournament setting for money without the possibility of some super pro knocking them out right before they could have. Seems really fun. I wish I had that when I was an amateur.
Getting ***** 2-0 then having to wait a week to play some one in tournament again isn't all that fun. But going through pools then another amateur bracket is more fulfilling and will make them want to come next week and they will also probably improve faster too, which is also good cause the skill gap is another thing keeping new players away.
Gotta go more later.
