Well, I'm coming into this song already not liking Bon Iver, so we'll see how this goes, haha...
It's weird to me that the instrumentation sounded happy while being accompanied by kinda mopey lyrics. I think that's what breaks it for me, emo is cool and all, but if it were less succinct I think I could enjoy it a lot more.

Was not really felling it for most of the song, the song just felt kind of empty, it also feels a little repetitive, I did however like the guitar solo near the end.
Not bad. Not really my type of electronic, but it's got some nice melodies and a solid beat. 7 / 10
Been a while since I took a crack at this thread...let's see.
3/10 It just sounds like generic action movie soundtrack. Plus its repetitive till somewhere in the 2 min range which while not being surprising doesn't change the fact that it kinda got annoying. Something like this is not something i have ever been into nor something I ever see myself getting into. So maybe i was just the wrong person to review this

I feel like the pacing changes too quickly in this song. There's 9 minutes so why not take your time with it? I felt like in just the first 2 minutes, I was on a roller coaster ride of the tempo going up and down. Don't get me wrong, the sound is nice, and definitely appealing, but the first two minutes were not allowing me to get settled down with one tempo so to speak.
Well the first two minutes are so up and down, it doesn't really establish an identity. Once it gets over that, it just becomes a traditional "long" song, and it can't escape the inevitable repetitiveness.
I really like the atmosphere, the song has some solid vocals, it not too long but not too short, it has a solid beat, mixes it up through-out the song to keep it from sounding repetitive, overall a very well done song.
What a lonely and depressing feeling this song brings to me. I like it. Tension building to start the song as the vocals slowly slide themselves in. I think she has potential to be a good singer, but I think she does just an OK job in this song. I have trouble understanding what she's saying as well, so I hope she doesn't sing like that in all her songs.

I like that they go silky and fuzzy too. Pretty typical post rock but I think too much of the song has me waiting for change (although I did appreciate that twangy bit a little past 6). It could probably have a bunch of staves cut out and it would be just as good.

Digging the intro. Nice mathy jazz feel.
Nice old school metalcore sound. I like it. It's simple and clean. I really like the bridge after the first clean vocal chorus thing, with those ****ed up guitar harmonies under the screaming. I actually quite like the clean singing here. Overall a real solid song.My god. That bass line. I love the way the song was mixed to really place more of an emphasis on it too. Guitar seems on point, but at some points throughout the song it strays from the song a bit, it just goes off on a completely different tangent. At the same time it doesn't go far enough off track to hurt the overall feel of the song, so it's more than welcome!. Drums are pretty good too, but I feel they still take second fiddle to the bass line GOD MAN THAT BASS LINE

The song definitely provides a fantasy/medieval flare to it, which I assume it was going for. Very thought provoking, while maintaining a sense of holy-ness. My only complaint would be is that it's pretty repetitive for a 4 minute song, almost as if the same part is just on repeat the whole time. The only semblance of change coming with about a minute left in the song =/. Though it seems they just lowered the pitch of the choir and that's about it.
This is a classic. I'm not a big fan of Common in general but this album is just great all the way through. I saw Common live in support for this album. He had a live band playing and didn't spit along to a track or even have a backup IIRC and with all the solid tracks on Be it was a good show
I love how creepy this song is. The guitar sets the mood so perfectly, it's all very well written. The vocals fit very nicely too, they become so angry when the guitars start blasting those big big chords, it's got such a dark tone, I love it!
Soothing and poignant. I love the chorus vocal melody A LOT. "Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of". Very pretty. A good protest song.
despite not much more than an acoustic guitar, there's definitely progression instrumentally
