The french horn is the most epic instrument (see any lord of the rings composition) and it remains consistent in this song, the french horn holding the melody for the most of the song was great. It was a very epic song, and I would love to hear this done by a metal band too.

Love this song, the vocals, in all their brutality, still complement the song's mood as it progresses. That chorus, so epic :D. I can't really call them out on much, this is just a well executed song.

Ok, listened to the song. Sounded really eerie to me O_O scared me a little and I'll probably have nightmares. Honestly I wasn't that impressed. I probably wouldn't listen to it again, though it wasn't the worst song I have heard. Melody was strange, lyrics strange, just strange. Sorry.

Decent Zeppelin-esque beginning.

...and Zeppelin-esque verse...

The piano is a nice addition.

no like the lyrics, they range from cliche to just dumb

interesting "solo" bridge thing. the last chorus is missing something to give it that big oomph to close the song. it works but it feels like it should be bigger and better.

overall a listenable song, but a little too traditional and Zep influenced for me

Well, I'm coming into this song already not liking Bon Iver, so we'll see how this goes, haha...
Started off sounding like a Good Old War song. Not bad. Then the Bon Iver trademark double-tracked falsetto vocals come in, and I frown. I'm really not a fan of that. I like the feel when the drums come in, it makes the vocals a little less jarring for me. Not a big fan of the slide guitar (I think it's a slide guitar) that came in later. All-in-all, it's not awful, just not my cup of tea.

5/10

I'm going to do something weird and post a hip-hop song. This is literally the only hip-hop artist I have ever enjoyed. I've explored a lot of the underground scene and still find almost nothing I like; it's simply not a genre for me. But this dude's writing style is too amazing for me to pass up:

Love the vibe this guy has going, some great rhymes, flows nicely. I'm not too big into the way the hype guy speaks, but I suppose that's personal preference, other than that it's still very well done.

It's weird to me that the instrumentation sounded happy while being accompanied by kinda mopey lyrics. I think that's what breaks it for me, emo is cool and all, but if it were less succinct I think I could enjoy it a lot more.

cool droney synth opening

i'm feeling this groove and the buildup. overall just like the atmospherics of everything. reminds me of Rolo Tomassi's softer side.

interesting lick that is repeated a lot and then gives way to a bassy riff which is pretty awesome

....wait, that's it? it's over?

I'm assuming this is an album intro or something right? It's pretty good but on its own that ending is a major disappointment. To me it felt like the song wasn't even close to finishing the buildup, let alone the whole song.

still quite solid though!

My Song: Trombone Shorty - Hurricane Season
Been a while since I took a crack at this thread...let's see.

I have never been to a Jazz Club, let alone a place that is known for Jazz, but man this music is good! Is this what they play in Louisiana? It definitely pumps me up, yet at the same time it doesn't sound like garbage music you'd hear at teen clubs. It's so classy, yet it's something you can either dance to or tap your foot to. My only complaint is that it can get a bit repetitive, which is usually not noticed in songs with words. Also, the "hey!" sounds a bit uh...like they aren't into it lol. Overall, great song to listen to in really any sort of situation. Computer, car, club, party, etc.

3/10 It just sounds like generic action movie soundtrack. Plus its repetitive till somewhere in the 2 min range which while not being surprising doesn't change the fact that it kinda got annoying. Something like this is not something i have ever been into nor something I ever see myself getting into. So maybe i was just the wrong person to review this

I like Chris' vocals in the context of Soundgarden. His acoustic playing is nice, but I'm not sure if his voice really fits it well. The song is definitely good though I'm inclined to believe it'd be better sung by someone with a less overpowering voice.

I feel like the pacing changes too quickly in this song. There's 9 minutes so why not take your time with it? I felt like in just the first 2 minutes, I was on a roller coaster ride of the tempo going up and down. Don't get me wrong, the sound is nice, and definitely appealing, but the first two minutes were not allowing me to get settled down with one tempo so to speak.

I think the song then finds itself after that in which the pace rarely goes up and down so quickly. It sticks to one, and the sound is pleasant for me in regards to music I want to stream while studying. I'm not a fan of 9 minute songs though, because that's just asking to get repetitive. Even though to me, this song feels like three different songs given it has its "parts" so to speak.

lol, you criticize the song for changing too much, then you go and say it's too repetitive.

anyhoo:

"Magneto"

Swag. I can easily imagine all this being played on rock guitars and sounding really cool. Kinda like Kashmir. Very violent sounding.

It's too short, but hey it's a movie score so it probably just shows up for a minute in the movie.

Well the first two minutes are so up and down, it doesn't really establish an identity. Once it gets over that, it just becomes a traditional "long" song, and it can't escape the inevitable repetitiveness.

Those vocals are awful, but they sound better here than they do in Good Charlotte's non-acoustic stuff. The lyrics don't seem nearly as stupid as other GC songs either. The instrumentation is passable though. Simple yet catchy. I can give this a 5/10, I understand how this would appeal to someone and I don't think it's that bad (when pretty much any other GC song I've heard would get a 1/10 if I'm being nice). Not bad and I'm a bit surprised by it.

What a lonely and depressing feeling this song brings to me. I like it. Tension building to start the song as the vocals slowly slide themselves in. I think she has potential to be a good singer, but I think she does just an OK job in this song. I have trouble understanding what she's saying as well, so I hope she doesn't sing like that in all her songs.

Overall, I prefer the instruments over the rest of the song, especially when it builds that lonely and thought provoking feeling. I just wish the singing was a bit more bearable.

Nice intro beat and synth progression.

The filtered vocals are nice. It's nice to not hear whatever undoubtedly pathetic lyrics the guy was originally singing.

about halfway through, I'm proven right hahaha. It's still an okay song, but I liked it when the vocals were abstract and drenched in reverb and delay effects. The song gradually starts to sound like typical Linkin Park towards the end, and that is bad.

I like that they go silky and fuzzy too. Pretty typical post rock but I think too much of the song has me waiting for change (although I did appreciate that twangy bit a little past 6). It could probably have a bunch of staves cut out and it would be just as good.
Very good at being ambient, but not so much at keeping my attention.

I like how muddy and obscure everything is. The vocals feel like they're being drowned by waves.

something though, is just kinda weird about the drumming I think. It's just kinda plodding along with this weird pattern for the first half.

I like this little buildup thing going on about 3 minutes in. But it kinda feels like it doesn't build up to anything, instead it just kinda stops.

Digging the intro. Nice mathy jazz feel.
Didn't see the core coming. Drums feel the slightest bit sloppy, but I like it as a whole. Not a fan of these vocals at all. The instrumentalists are definitely impressive, though I'm not a fan of excessive blast beats/double bass nonsense. It gets a little too sloppy and sporadic in a bad way. Doesn't feel like there's much of a connection between any of the musicians.
...and then it just stopped randomly.

Um... I mean, not bad, but I can never get behind that style of vocals. 5/10

My god. That bass line. I love the way the song was mixed to really place more of an emphasis on it too. Guitar seems on point, but at some points throughout the song it strays from the song a bit, it just goes off on a completely different tangent. At the same time it doesn't go far enough off track to hurt the overall feel of the song, so it's more than welcome!. Drums are pretty good too, but I feel they still take second fiddle to the bass line GOD MAN THAT BASS LINE :awesome:

Oh, there is no guitarist, only a bassist. He uses an octave pedal and taps most of everything. So, everything you hear is either the drummer or the bassist.

Nice old school metalcore sound. I like it. It's simple and clean. I really like the bridge after the first clean vocal chorus thing, with those ****ed up guitar harmonies under the screaming. I actually quite like the clean singing here. Overall a real solid song.

I love that at every turn there's a new solid riff/melody waiting. None of them seem to take the spotlight--they all contribute something special, so that unity > than the sum of its parts
Way cool turn into heavier tones toward the end. I'm really getting into these guys.
Makes me wanna stop making excuses and pick my bass up lol.

I actually kinda liked the lyrics and vocals. The guitar and drums were fairly spotty where I kinda dug some parts and some others not so much. I think Rolo Tomassi is potentially a good band but this song just kinda lands somewhere in the middle for me. 6/10, but I'm actually interested in hearing more of it.

The song definitely provides a fantasy/medieval flare to it, which I assume it was going for. Very thought provoking, while maintaining a sense of holy-ness. My only complaint would be is that it's pretty repetitive for a 4 minute song, almost as if the same part is just on repeat the whole time. The only semblance of change coming with about a minute left in the song =/. Though it seems they just lowered the pitch of the choir and that's about it.

This is a classic. I'm not a big fan of Common in general but this album is just great all the way through. I saw Common live in support for this album. He had a live band playing and didn't spit along to a track or even have a backup IIRC and with all the solid tracks on Be it was a good show

also, immediately you know it's another hot as **** Kanye production. The standup bass kicks and the riff the song is based around is just cool. I even love the cheesy little moog synthline. A great intro to a modern classic!

I love how creepy this song is. The guitar sets the mood so perfectly, it's all very well written. The vocals fit very nicely too, they become so angry when the guitars start blasting those big big chords, it's got such a dark tone, I love it!

Not digging FATA. They're not bad but it doesn't really click with me either. I'd give them a 5/10 for being perfectly average but I'm docking a point for the rather obnoxious vocals. 4/10

Soothing and poignant. I love the chorus vocal melody A LOT. "Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of". Very pretty. A good protest song.
