Um, maybe the ratios should be smaller so we can scroll down faster...?
I mean, it's a bit big.

Also, you switched the links on :4shulk: and :4ganondorf:, might want to fix that.

True, and I suppose there is enough room for some kind of brief synopsis. I just tend to lean towards clean OPs with links elsewhere because I like to compartmentalize things. I put stuff in buckets, then put the buckets in bigger buckets, then I put those buckets with buckets in it in one big bucket and I show that huge bucket to everyone and say "Pick out what you want to see."
All I could think of while reading this post.

On topic: Yeah, I prefer a nice/clean/compartmentalized OP/directory myself. Good lookin' stuffs.

I made the images half the resolution, but now the table looks odd with all the empty space. I'll work on it some more later and see what I can pull together.

I'm not really sure I like the idea of really big MU fonts rather than regular fonts. It makes it hard to see them as a list, and there's no reason for them to be so big.

I agree, I'm not really sure exactly how I want to format everything. I want the OP to have the clearness of just a text-based list, but I want to it be visually appealing enough to be nice to look at. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey everyone, update time!

First off, sorry I was a little late again this week. I may have even just missed a week, I've been so busy with graduation that I didn't have much time to keep up with stuff. We have however moved on to Little Mac and Duck Hunt. I'm going from 3 to 2 a week now to see how that compares to how we've been doing it.

Second, I've renovated the OP again. I found a way to keep the compartmental look but not be super ugly and big. The way I have it formatted now, it takes up WAY less room. As always, the ratios themselves are links to their threads.

Third, I'd like to offer some of my input on what the ratios are for stuff we've done already:

Falcon: Fine
Diddy: Fine
Fox: Fine
Luigi: It's worse than we have it. Probably 65:35 or even 30:70
Mario: Fine-ish, I think it's closer to 65:35
Ness: Not sure, I think fine
Palutena/Pac/Peach: Fine
Pikachu: Fine
Rosalina: Fine? Maybe be worse than we have it, I don't have a lot but I think it's actually kinda bad
Sheik: Fine
Sonic: Fine
Villager: Fine, it may be worse, I lack experience
Yoshi/ZeroSuit: Fine

@ GwJ GwJ

I'm curious as to your reasoning behind the Mario, Luigi, and Rosa ratios. I disagree with them on the surface, but am willing to consider additional evidence/POV I haven't before.

Also, Really digging the new MU table. Nice stuff!

My reasoning for Mario and Luigi are really just based on a combination of two sets I played against Boss (who is significantly better than me so I don't know HOW much worse I think it is) and ROB's tools. The grab games of Mario and Luigi are just so strong that getting grabbed means you're eating a super significant portion of damage at basically any percent. They rack damage faster than ROB and kill earlier than ROB. Fireballs on both characters are good (better with Luigi) and their close quarters game beats ROB.

As for Rosalina, this one's just theorycrafting. I think Rosalina is just a lot better than Dabuz says she is and am more on ZeRo's side with her potential. Her close quarters is good, long range is good, zoning is excellent. She has plenty of kill options, Luma gets in our way all the time; it just doesn't feel good.

Also, I've updated the OP with the last 3 ratios we did.

Whoa... I'm surprised on the pikachu and villager match-up for R.O.B. I didn't think it was that bad of a match-up for R.O.B (Well ok I can kind of understand maybe a slight advantage) . Sheik is understandable since that is imo R.O.B.'s worst match-up.

Ideas for next series of discussion (would be happy with any of them): Wario, Mii Brawler, Kirby

I like those, they'll be up next time I die in Bloodborne.

Done, Wario and Mii Brawler are up.

Also, we have a dilemma. We need to decide if we're considering customs. As of now, we've been discussing no customs and sometimes going "Well custom x is pretty nasty too so there's that." We need to figure out which we need to do.

In my opinion, it's no question that we need to consider customs. I don't think we're at a place where we can consider it as primary over non-customs. Most tournaments I've been to still prefer non-customs. What's everyone's thoughts? @ Syde7 Syde7 @ChiboSempai @Mister Eric

Maybe there should be two matchup tables, one with customs, one without, but that'll probably be a pain.

Maybe in the future we could do that, but we've already done some 20-something discussion more or less without customs.

In terms of discussing customs, I feel that they are, atm worth discussing. However, I think EVO & the next national/large scale customs-on tourney will decide if they stick around. Personally, I think it makes more sense to run through the no-customs cast first, and then, after EVO if customs seem like they are going to be an ongoing thing... then definitely revise the discussions to include them. That would be a great time to re-assess characters that were noticeably affected by the previous and possible upcoming balance patches as well. However, in the interim, it may be a good idea to re-open the discussion on some of the more popular & "game changing" customs/characters. Maybe do 2-3 char dicussions, but staggered. For example:

week 1: Character A (new, vanilla+customs), Character B (old, rediscuss +customs)
week 2: Character C (new, vanilla), Character D (new, vanilla +customs)
......
......
Week X: Character C (old, rediscuss + customs), Character M (new, vanilla)

Something like that. I know that could potentially be confusing, so its just a thought. The main point Im trying to bring across is that vanilla should be our focus, but we should stagger in a customs on discussion mixed between new chars, and those we need to re-discuss. At least until after EVO until we know for sure if they'll be sticking around.

Also, for what its worth, here in NC we've been having a boatload of customs tourneys in preparation for EVO (not that any of our players are going... more are going to SmashCon & CEO, so I don't know why we aren't focusing on prepping for that) + TO discretion. NC's super split, atm, lol.

Hey guys, what's your input on the Link and G&W MUs? The guys Im looking out in the tournament next week for play these characters. Typodo plays a patient, punish heavy G&W (that freaking up smash super armor) , and my boy FaintLlama plays Link exclusively against my R.O.B. because I can't seem to beat him consistently. He always busts out some strong ass move with rage and I die under 90% lol

My quick and dirty:

G&W... I cant help you. Ive only played onr that is really good, and I got bopped. I feel its a hard MU,

Link: Outcamp him. Link wins the camp game if you remain grounded/even with him, but once you start jumping up and down, angling lasers and stuff you win the camp game hardcore. D-throw -> U-air. Watch out for jab stuff.

Hey everyone, a person from the Ness forums (basically, from a thread like ours) came into the Ness MU thread, giving little techniques that Ness mains, or at least him, used typically. http://smashboards.com/threads/r-o-b-matchup-analysis-14-ness.400056/#post-19358174, http://smashboards.com/threads/ness-matchup-chart-discussion-thread.402589/

According to him, the Ness MU against R.O.B is about to be discussed soon. I realize that a lot has already been said on it from us, but I feel like we could benefit from having opposite players give their opinions/thoughts, and insight into ours. It helps fuel the game's progress if everyone communicates, and generally gives everyone more respect for the character's involved.

Dr. Mario and Mii Gunner are up! Sorry I'm like a week late, I was just being lazy.

Lucas, Roy, and Ryu have been added to the OP as well.

I thankfully realize that now... But something to the side like (currently discussing) would be nice. Could this little series of posts get deleted?

To all R.O.B.s out there, the Rosalina sub-forum has a match-up discussion thread all set up to analyze Rosalina's match-up against R.O.B.. Got anything to share for the Rosalina vs. R.O.B. match-up? Then head to the following thread link...

http://smashboards.com/threads/408235/

In terms of the rules, be sure to go to the directory thread.

Besides the ones we've already covered, what "important" match-ups are left to talk about?
Of the higher tier characters, we haven't discussed Kirby or Olimar, and we haven't done any of the DLC (probably) high tiers. Olimar I think should be one of our next discussions, as he's becoming more and more prevalent in the meta and could really pose a threat to us.

If I'm going to be honest, I have under a dozen fights against Olimar, which would make me all the more curious as to how he plays. I know that his Pikmin can pressure you as they cling onto you... That's about it.

Maybe this thread should be used to just generally discuss R.O.B's match-ups until new discussion threads are made?
