I haven't touched my Earthbound file since I just got into FE playing Shadow Dragon, FE6 and FE7.

Roy is overrated. He remains unpromoted for far too long.
Chapter 21 of FE6 in hard mode was a ***** because even when he hits the level cap, Roy is simply too weak to do anything and can't take a hit from the Dragon Knights and Masters unless you stat boost him like crazy. You also have to move quickly to get the last gaiden chapter which meant that I had to do constant rescuing and babysitting of Roy.
His supports are not good enough to help this issue.
This is the chapter right before he gets promoted.

Roy isn't overrated. He's generally considered a mediocre unit.

His supports however, are pretty awesome. I mean he can support the two best units in the game. Maybe they don't help him that much in this particular chapter but they actually carry him for a looooo~ng time. Like way in the beginning you can already have a C-support with both Lance and Alan and that's vital against bosses and makes using Roy a lot easier in general.

It's really not that hard to play Snake once you get inside all the nades...and don't get grabbed a lot.
