This doesn't make sense to me since I alluded to this information in my theorysmash P:M cycle.
Uh, I never said I wanted Melee vets to dominate. I think the characters should be balanced around Marth, Peach, and C. Falcon (high tiers) and not Fox and Falco, but thats not implying I want them to dominate.
You could have misread my post in which I said I think that Melee vets would dominate in the opening months of P:M's metagame, but thats a logical conclusion based on the fact people would be comfortable playing the melee vets first. I am not saying I want them to dominate.
And my chief problem with Zelda is her teleport. She already has a naturally inherent weakness of poor mobility. A player should overcome this issue with her powerful punish options and projectiles to control space. However, instead of players having to learn about this when trying to pick up Zelda, they know they can simply overcome the majority of her mobility problems by pressing up-b. She is actually pretty much set up to be a strength/weakness character like Marth and C. Falcon, but that one buff pushed her a little too far.
What is this? Are you applying Darwinism to a GAME!? You act like the P:M team is forced into disbalance based on a character's attributes. This is a childish argument.
So you are acknowledging he doesn't have any weaknesses which the opponent player could take advantage of/a Pit player has to take into account? And that "flight" strength which you casually passed off affects several aspects of his game, including recovery, offstage edgeguarding, outmanuerving slow characters who don't have projectiles like Pit, and his cross up game and approach seems really freaking good.
I never suggested making characters awful. If you are going to keep putting words into peoples' mouths, quit trying to make points. And even if he may still be harder than Sheik, it doesn't justify anything because Sheik is not balanced, and he is still weaknessless and that puts him in a similar league as her.
Snake and Sonic had intentional design choices which included specific flaws and strengths. Poor game mechanics serves as justification for melee vets not playing well, but Snake and Sonic were designed specifically for the P:M enviroment at that time. I think people just wanted instant gratification and ease of use from the P:M characters and got frustrated when they realized that they were going to have to apply strengths and overcome weaknesses to utilize Snake and Sonic to their full potential... remember how cool it was when we saw those old FireBallStars videos with him doing work with Sonic? Characters that take devotion are more interesting to watch. That is why these characters should be designed in a model following Marth and C. Falcon and blah blah blah like I've said a hundred times and not like Sheik.
It kind of makes you wonder what the commentary for matches will be like, in Melee, commentators typically summarize the situation by sauing: character A must apply "x" strength to character B's weakness and the reverse. What about matches between Pit and Ganon? Will the commentator be like, "Alright, so Pit has excellent speed and projectile which he will use to really harass and close space on Ganon. Whereas the Ganon will be... hm... uh... the Ganon will wait patiently for the Pit to make a mistake because he has got nothin' on him"
