He's an american robot build to have a british accent.
Good point, and either way, you couldn't expect Merchant to write all of his own dialog, it is Valve's game after all. He more than likely had a large hand in his own dialog, not many people would commit to something like that without it being somewhat their product.

lol the very idea of wheatley being consistent and making sense.

So the beta SDK was released today and so far I find it really easy to work with.
I still need to refresh my hammer knowledge a bit for the details but overall they did very well.

Hammer is still hammer but they streamlined the puzzle objects. And since portal is not as much about the graphic details most people should be able to make good maps with just the brush tool and placing objects.

I tried giving it a go when the Alien Swarm SDK was released. I was trying to map out a deck of the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it didn't work out too well.

Maybe I'll give it another try... when I can activate my goddamned PC copy.

Wish you ended up making that Star Trek map for L4D, would have been killer. :(

Well, I'm graduating high school in less than three weeks, so I'll definitely have the time for it.

EDIT: Just beat the game. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That is all.

I'm going to start toying around in Portal 2's Hammer tomorrow, though, unless they give it the .VPK file system like the Left 4 Dead series, I have no idea how I'm going to make linked co-op maps...

Portal 2: The final hours is now available on steam. basically it's an extremely in depth behind-the-scenes of the portal 2 development and I seriously recommend getting it.

I'm PS3, just beasted through the Single player, definitely want to check out co-op though. Add me "ClownMafia".

EDIT: Thought single-player was pretty fun, but too short per usual after this long. More challenge would have been great too.

I don't think the single player was too short. They said well before the game came out that it'd take you about twice as long as the first game to complete it, meaning it should've taken me about 4 hours, when it actually took me 7-8 hours.

That's 4 times as long as the first. Plus substance over length, look at Dragon Age Origins, that game is insanely long but immensely boring.

Yes the first one was very short, but this was a fully developed game that was selling standalone for 60 bucks, and it could have been a bit longer. Not saying I didn't immensely enjoy every minute of it though.

Disagree on DA:O completely though, great game.

I just took it for substance over length. It was twice as long as I expected it to be but was also a work of art. No need to unnecessarily pad it out, it would just get repetitive.

Is that your PSN ID? I'm not able to access my PS3 until Monday. Did you link your copy of the game to a Steam account I can add?

Hey guys. I just posted a thread about the "turret opera" until Someone decided to lock it. AGAIN.
Here's the link for all of you guys. I'm not gonna waste my time again putting this lyric together:

It was locked because it's about content from a game that already has a thread going. This policy has been around since the inception of the forums. Now then, I've started work on making co-op test chambers in Hammer. Does anyone have any ideas they'd like me to try to implement?

Lol so I went and tracked down a few of those Barclays Banking adverts that are always on TV, and all the comments are full of presumably Americans who are making Portal 2 references because it's Stephen Merchant who does the voice overs in them:

http://youtu.be/k8r0xbou9Ho

http://youtu.be/x2Ao2XDWJQQ

http://youtu.be/HtbS0p-B3og

He's quite famous over here and there's tons of Barclays adverts so I was used to hearing his voice well before Portal 2 came out. In fact anytime I play it with other people in the room they always point out it's "that guy from the banking adverts!". Just thought it was funny reading the comments though.

Man I just got Portal 2

Omg Wheatley <3

EDIT:

Finally beat the game after so many hours of getting stuck

Holy **** man the ending was so epic it's like I can't even describe it

And the atmosphere of the game was so perfect. Everytime I was walking down a corridor it felt as if something bad might happen to me at any moment even though this game isn't a horror game

And the final cinematic was too cute

I beat Portal 2 about a week ago. The ending was just absolutely fantastic. :3

I'm working on co-op with a friend now. L2 is possibly the best co-op innovation that I've ever seen.

Someone tell me what the point was at the song in the end?

Like I know not to take the game seriously at this point but I honestly don't get it

Well according to Aperture Science Standard Testing Protocol she's not supposed to be talking to the test subjects during the test. Test's over so she can vent.

That or she's
just so happy that now you're gone.

I meant the Turret Opera whoops

The son is great but I honestly didn't get the point of it

And Want You Gone is such a great song. I actually went through the trouble of learning how to play Want You Gone and Still Alive just because of how great these songs are.

And I honestly did not like with what GLaDOS did to her personality at the end. I though they'd both bond closer together an actually started liking each other or something until GLaDOS
just booted her out of Aperture and deleted Caroline

Btw isn't this game supposed to be tied in with Half Life? If so isn't the premise of the game supposed to be that aliens took over the world or something so when Chell got out there'd be the entire horde of aliens trying to kill her or something?

It's hundreds of years in the future Fuel, nobody knows what the outside world would be like.

The
turret opera is in Italian. If you translate the lyrics you'll see that it hints maybe Glados didn't delete Caroline, and she bids a sad farewell to Chell.

Italiano:
Cara bella, cara mia bella!
Mia bambina, o ciel! [pun: Chell = It. "Ciel" = Sky"]
Ché la stimo…
Ché la stimo.
O cara mia, addio!
La mia bambina cara,
perché non passi lontana?
Sì, lontana da Scïenza, [personified]
Cara, cara mia bambina?
Ah, mia bella!
Ah, mia cara!
Ah, mia cara!
Ah, mia bambina!
O cara, cara mia…

English:
Dear beautiful, my beautiful darling!
My child, oh Chell! [pun: "oh heavens!"]
For I hold her in esteem…
For I hold her in esteem.
Farewell to my dear!
My dear girl,
why do you not walk away?
Yes, away from Science,
My dear, my dear girl?
Ah, my beautiful!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my child!
Oh dear, my dear…
