I look forward to this game. Me and my bro plan on buying two copies on Steam and playing co-op together. :)

That video was pretty funny.

I laughed when the person gets crushed by the giant diamond and someone else comes in and takes it. xD

Just gonna quote the whole Kotaku article because it just sounds so god damn interesting. Possible Portal 1.5 demo ala 'Dead Rising: Case West'?

Kotaku said:
Portal 2 takes place after Portal, long after enough for Aperture Science to be wrecked and covered with plant-life. What happened? Valve plans to explain some of that gap in the coming weeks, before we can play Portal 2 on April 18.

“We’re actually going to release something that we’re not talking about yet that will give a little bit of the story of the interim time,” Erik Wolpaw, one of the writers on Portal 2 told me at PAX East today. “We’re doing that before release.”

I’m not sure how much detail we’re going to get. Valve is being cagey about how we can once again resume the role of test subject Chell even if Aperture seems like it’s been through a long period of decay. “You were in this cryo-chamber,” Wolpaw told me. “Maybe yours was just better or you’re tougher.”

Portal games talk place in the universe first established in the Half-Life games. And, yes, they do all fit together. “Portal is after Half-Life 1 and before Half-Life 2,” Wolpaw said. “Without getting into it too much, Portal 2 is further down the line.” I asked if that meant that Portal 2 is, say, after Half-Life Episode 2. He didn’t want to get into that.

The Portal and Half-Life games co-exist, but they won’t crossover too much, Wolpaw said. “We tried to keep as light a touch about it as we did in Portal 1. Fans of Half-Life will notice some things, but if you haven’t played Half-Life they’ll just kind of pass right by you. You’re not going to see Gordon tromping through the facility.” He likened it to how the X-Files had an overarching plot but then also standalone episodes that were a little looser. “Aperture Science is kind of this fun-house of science, this bubble in the otherwise serious Half-Life universe.”

We’ll have more from Wolpaw and about Portal 2 in the coming days.

Fans of the game should note that the game is being demonstrated in a theatre at PAX East, where a new character, Cave Johnson, founder of Aperture Science, is being revealed for the first time. He’s voiced by JK Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies. In Portal 2, it’s not clear if he’s alive, a recording, or what. But he is happy to give you some instructions and to give instructions to those Aperture test subjects who are part praying-mantis. Didn’t see them in the demo today!

EDIT: Oh, and apparently a band called 'The Nationals' (never heard of them meself) are doing a song for the game.

Very excited. Wheatley(?) being voiced by that guy from the Barcleys advert will get annoying but he has cannon fodder written all over him so it'll be be good when Glados fries him.

PC here. 40 bucks is just awesomely cheap, though the copy of Portal which most people have is a bit 'eh' as an incentive, especially as it was only a few bucks during the last lot of sales and even being given away for free not too long ago too.

I guess they are just trying to get people into the series, even if 2 is their first Portal game. You can also gift it if you already have it, so pre-order Portal 2 and spread the love!

Who's gonna get this for PS3/PC/Mac? I was initially gonna get the Xbox 360 version, but the PS3 comes with Steam Cloud AND a copy of the PC/Mac version. Oh, and people, pre-order it on Steam and you get a free copy of the first game!
So if I want it on PC and a friend wants it on PS3 can we just split the cost of a PS3 version, then he keeps the disk while I take the steam code or whatever? Or is there something in place to prevent that from working?

You link your PSN account to your Steam account and it gives it to the Steam account, it's not a physical code

Yeah, if your friend doesn't have a Steam Account and isn't planning on it you should be alright, no idea what'll happen if you try and play at the same time though.

Lol, watched that on Steam earlier, ortaGood job robots, Cave Johnson, we're done here. I can't even comprehend how amazing Portal 2 is gonna be, just seeing gameplay trailers puts a smile in my face and gives me a reason truckin through the droll of the everyday. June is gonna be a great month, playing Portal 2 until Duke Nukem: Forever comes out on the 14th. Thanks Valve, you guys own so bad!

Looks like they changed Chell again. They got rid of the new suit they were going to give her and instead went back to her old orange jumpsuit but with half of it tied around her waist:

Personally I prefer this look. Her beta look seemed a bit to clean for me, especially as the facility was supposed to be falling in to disrepair when she was asleep and Glados was dead.

Everything in that post of yours was amazing Mic. Though incredibly annoyingly a lot of the concept art for the game cover was far better than the one they actually settled for.

FYI, the unlocking is probably fixed: http://cpucount.zapto.org/

Someone linked to this, so I don't know how accurate their algorithms are, but basically, the completion percentage has increased consistently, while the users dropped. The Potatoes rise with it, but Valve was reported as saying the potatoes weren't the focus somewhere.

My prediction is the game will be out Monday night/Tuesday at Midnight.

The ARG was a brilliant marketing ploy to simultaneously generate hype, and well as get people to buy a ton of indie games.

More money generated via marketing machines = more amazing games in the future for us to enjoy.

I'm going apesh*t for portal 2. It suck thats I wont be able to play it until beginning of may due to exams grrrrr. I'll have to avoid the internet for some time to avoid spoilers. Never looks directly into the operational end of the device.

Will be avoiding this place until the 21st/22nd then it seems.

I think the ARG (which has been confirmed to not end with the countdown) is going to over hype the game for people. Anyone who spent an extra $38 to "release it faster" will be more critical of any flaws. Had Valve just released this on Friday, or even better, started the countdown last Tuesday, I think this would be a more rewarding/fair experience. Right now, it's essentially false advertising because the games that were easiest to beat awarded the least amount of time, so instead of being released around noon on Tuesday, it's Tuesday in the early morning.

If any other company, but Valve did this, they'd be buried.

@Lobos: yes, but I recommend buying it now. It's $5 off and you can pre-load it. If you wait until Tuesday to buy it, you will not be able to play it until Wednesday with the server load if a lot of people buy it. I remember this happened with TF2.

It is and it isn't. At 13 games, if each gave only an hour then we'd shave a max of 13 hours. However at least one game unlocked only 40 minutes. This means games like Amnesia and Killing Floor will be impossible to complete unless we get every single person playing those games exclusively. Right now, Killing Floor has the most CPUs and the least percent complete. Until we know how much that one gives, I really can't say that this was anything more than bait and switch. Regardless, we get the game on the 19th, it just seems super ingenuous at this point.

Also, the fact that the percent complete has been steadily increasing while CPU usage has been dropping and rising. Many believe the potatoes will unlock an overclock mode at some point.

I don't understand, are you saying that if you pay money for these unknown indie games you have a chance of playing Portal 2 slightly earlier?

Sounds like you've been hustled.

I see where you're coming from, but Valve didn't force anyone to buy those games. the entire ARG experience was optional and didn't even add anything to the experience of the game itself. The fact that people were essentially willing to spend money just so they could then spend more money (the game itself) kinda speaks volumes of the hype level for this game.

If it disappoints, then thats life, but the ARG I don't think will have any baring on the backlash. It was optional and the game's hype was through the roof anyway. I think overall it was a good thing.

You don't have to buy the Potato Sack, but you need to have games in it to get potatoes/generate CPU power.
